I don't know why...

but I just feel like Missouri is looking better than that. If we win the league by two games I’d be thrilled.

If we win the league

at all, I’ll be thrilled. MU is going to be a challenge. They’re going to win the league and then leave for the SEC……just to piss us off.

With Missouri picking up that win at Baylor

I consider us basically tied now. They lost a reasonable loss, even if the margin wasn’t reasonable, and won a game they weren’t supposed to win. They are 1 game behind us, but have played a harder schedule to this point.

I know its kind of rival site

But I like how the phog blog breaks down the schedule.

Mizzou’s at risk games remaining – @UT and @KU
KU’s at risk games remaining – @MU, @ISU, @KSU and @Baylor.

They're thinkin MU is going to win at home against KU?

Right now, I’d take KU. I certainly think that’s an “at-risk” game.

I’d even throw (I’m a homer like that) home against K-State into the at-risk category too. The Cats hammered MU and I’m not convinced MU can keep the Cats from doing that again (the Cats can certainly play like crap and get blown out, but I think that loss will be more on the Cats than MU). Hosting Baylor too, even if Drew managed to piss away the home game.

They've had a couple sellouts this year

But it’s amazing to me that a top-5 team at the flagship school in a state of 5M people can’t regularly sell out 15,000 seats in an arena.

For all the crap they gave us about using groupons to boost ticket sales to our disgrace of a football team, they were selling $5 tickets to try to get people to come watch a top-15 undefeated team. They can’t even get bandwagon fans, it seems.

According to them

Its because Columbia is a few hours from both St. Louis and Kansas City. That is why. Where as Lawrence is only 30-45 minutes from the KC area

Hmm

Population of Columbia metro area: 164,283
Enrollment at Mizzou: 33,762
Seats in Paige Sports Arena: 15,061
I’m no math major, but even if you live in KC or StL and can’t make all the games, surely there are others who would want to go. Oh well. That’s the SEC’s problem now.

Hard to explain all those Sedgwick County plates at AFH

If fans can’t be bothered to drive a couple hours to support their team in person.

actually I did a poor job of explaining this.

Mizzou is projected to lose at KU
KU is projected to lose at MU and Baylor
MIzzou at Texas is a toss-up
KU at ISU and K-State are toss-ups.

The theory is that good teams win at home and conference championships are decided by who wins on the road.

It gets you to look past the current records, and look at what has been one. Check out the site they do a better job of explaining this then I do.

to be fair

I think our projection is skewed by getting to play OSU sans Sullinger. That said, I still think we can lose both at Baylor and at Missouri, plus one other place (K State? Iowa State?) and win the league.

Agreed

We may be able to lose all four of those road games and still win. I have to say, I see more upside potential for Baylor, KSU, and Mizzou with those projections than us. I also see KSU fighting Mizzou for the #2 spot.

I think the OSU win effect is negligible by this point.

We didn’t totally obliterate them or anything, and it’s just one game after which there have been plenty of games to balance it out.

It’s not like we played Howard 10 times and racked up a huge number of high-power possessions.

Don't get cocky

the slavers are 2-1 at Waco, Manhatten and Ames. Where are there 3 other loses coming from? If we lose at Waco and Columbia we have to settle for a tie with them (Shudder).

fair

they do still host some good teams though so who knows. Plus they won only one game on the road in conference play last year so they may or may not drop an unexpected one or two.

How about we just beat them in Columbia

and crush their dreams?

Really?

I’d almost assume that one to be a loss. But I feel like we can pull that even with a win in Lawrence. It’s dropping a game that we shouldn’t that worries me. Like K-State in Manhattan, or Iowa State in Ames. Those are the games that concern me.

Heck, if we go 1-2 with the road trips to Ames, Columbia and Manhattan

I still think we got a good shot. As long as we limit a “NOOOOOOOO” to only one other game. Mizzou has some tough games left as well, and Baylor’s two losses have clearly bumped them a lap behind KU and MU in the race

I'll take 1-2 in those games right now

So long as they stay unbeaten at home. That means you can afford a slip in Stillwater or College Station and still have a shot at the league title.

by jayhawk1996 on Jan 24, 2012 9:21 AM CST up reply actions

Right now I'm sticking with 14-4 for my prediction

If we handle business over the next week and get up to 9-0 at the halfway point, I’ll change that to 15-3.

Still think this team has at least one “WTF” stinker in them, and we have some tough games remaining…
