Kansas Football Recruiting: 4* Cornerback Kenneth Crawley

Crawley_mediumA quick glance at the Kansas roster gives you a pretty clear picture in terms of the opportunity at the cornerback position. One player that Kansas fans have been following of late is 4* corner Kenneth Crawley out of Washington DC. After what seemed like some back and forth, it appears that per Crawley's twitter feed, that he is on his way to Kansas for a visit and that has to be viewed as positive news.

Now this could be viewed as a positive for a variety of reasons. First off what does Crawley mean by official? Official visit? Officially a Jayhawk? At last check the former Tennessee commit was set to announce his decision on January 25th. This would be the last weekend before that time and Kansas is competing with Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan State, Oklahoma and Ohio State according to Rivals.com.

Now most seem to think that Colorado is the real competition here because that is the school that his high school teammates Johnny Walker (Weis and staff recruited) and De'Jon Wilson (former Kansas commit) are currently committed to. Walker is also a corner and Wilson is a defensive tackle or end. Now based on the tweet the second question becomes, who is "we"? It's very possible that Crawley is simply using "we" in an innocent "me" type way. It could be family as well. But what if Crawley, Walker and Wilson all want one last look at Kansas?

The playing time is there for all three at their respective positions, but it sure would seem like this would take one epic sales job late in the process to pull off.

yep...

agree with the ‘hopefully’. Twitter is good for some things but it certainly hasn’t proved to be accurate on a consistent basis.

i dont know why everyone

thought we wre out for him. he has been retweeting kansas tweets all this week.

by dester30 on Jan 19, 2012 1:44 PM CST reply actions

Big reason for me is I looked at Rivals and their recruit tracker thing has him listed with "none" interest for Kansas.

I also saw a couple links on recruiting sites for other schools talking about him and how he’s going to make his decision next week, but didn’t see anything about it on Slant or Phog.

Not much substance for feeling the way I did, I’ll admit, but it’s all I have to go on.

other schools reports primarily.

They kept omitting Kansas from the discussion and everyone was getting up in arms about it.

He'd probably see the field as a freshman

And would be starting as a sophomore.

I think he'd be starting by the end of the year

Patmon has no business starting as an outside corner for any BCS team. Brown isn’t a whole lot better

They

would all have a chance at immediate playing time at Kansas. I really hope we get Crawley, but would be absolutely ecstatic if we could some how pull a coup and get all three! Rock Chalk!

Could be that he is coming to Kansas to rule it out.

I know it’s pretty pessimistic, but that was the feeling I got from the tweet. Hopefully we can impress him and turn that around!

that's how I read it too, honestly

The name of that song played at KC Comets games in the '80's was Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase." Now you know.

I read it that way, as well.

see if it’s official = see if [other school] is his official pick or if KU wins him over. For it to mean making KU official, he’d have to be already leaning towards us. That may be the case, but I see no evidence to believe it is.

by jayhawk3r on Jan 19, 2012 3:22 PM CST up reply actions

Sounds fishy to me

like you’ve still got Gill(s). Way too much negativism.

The only thing close to “official” from him so far was recanted by reopening his recruiting. I’m trying to catch up to Dester. Lot’s more to say that he’s coming here than old reports from when we had virtually no D staff. It’s exciting to think of another triple play announcement.

There was a rumor we hadn't officially offered this kid

which I find hard to believe but maybe KU is officially offering a scholarship. Hope we get him because he’s needed badly.

Dave Campo might be an asset

in this case…

Honestly...

I listened to him on 610. He sure comes off as a level headed kid and took the high road. Sounds like they are just trying to pressure Kansas into the release. At the end of the day it’s going to happen, I suppose we should have just avoided all this mess and done so.

I think the problem is that he asked for the release but said it was to consult people not to discuss a transfer. So it was very noncommittal which is sort of par for the course with him. I suppose Kansas has to protect their interests so they denied it, Berglund appealed and the appeal date was set for after classes start. At that point you know if Berglund is coming or not and you force his hand rather than let him hold you hostage.

Berglund probably didn’t handle it the best on the front end, but I don’t know that two wrongs make a right here. If he wanted to check around and we weren’t comfortable with that then just say bon voyage and release him before the presser and classes.

You didn't think

he ducked all the non-softballs Wright threw his way? “Did they ever tell you there were certain things you had to do to get the release?” Brock: “Well that’s kind of hard to say.” No, it’s not, either they gave you conditions or they didn’t. He seemed to do that a lot, which is a pretty good sign of someone being not quite honest.

by bigreed on Jan 19, 2012 4:28 PM CST up reply actions

Wright

has always been on the “college players are poor, mistreated souls” bandwagon. From what I caught of the interview, it sounded like he was trying to bait Berglund into making KU out to be a villain.

Oh Lord

A press release? From a law firm? For a high school quarterback?

There's a fanshot down low.

I didn’t want to throw it up on the front page just yet because he’s clearly trying to go on a PR campaign to make Kansas look bad. I’m a Jayhawk, so I don’t like it when you try to make my school look bad when it’s pretty clear he isn’t completely blameless in this whole deal. I might have a reaction post tomorrow, sort of waiting to see how the University chooses to respond or if they do.

also a little humorous...

he tweeted out his own press release. I know you dislike twitter so I just thought you might find that a bit funny, I did.

Press release, radio appearances....

this is really starting to annoy me. I suppose I’ll bite my tongue for now.

Kenneth Crawley and De’Jon Wilson. That’s what he meant when he said that we were on a flight to Kansas.
