I am thankful for this.
KU’s biggest gains tough to judge | KUsports.com
Very interesting question and definitely a tough call. Withey did go from non-existent to a confident contributor on the interior. I think I'd call his the most important improvement. Without that we are in trouble inside.

Brock Berglund, former Valor QB, transferring from Kansas - The Denver Post
How are you going to be at home watching TV the day after a mandatory meeting and feel caught off guard that you have been dismissed? If it were me, and I couldn't make it...I would be damn sure I spoke directly to the man in charge and got his approval. Otherwise I'm doing whatever I have to do to get to Lawrence. Instead Berglund is sitting on his couch in his living room 'shocked' that he has been dismissed.
Seems pretty cut and dry to me. Especially when this is a pattern of behavior. I know at the time we were all excited that we had 'stolen' Berglund away from Colorado but let's be honest, Colorado wanted no part of Berglund. Just another example of Turner Gill showing that he was willing to turn the other cheek.
Interesting too that in an article on the Shiver.com his story isn't the same as he says, "“I look at my phone and twitter as I get out of a movie with my family and find out that I had been released from the football team”. Seems like there are a lot of fingers pointing at Charlie Weis right now from those that are no longer with the team.

The finger pointing and sour grapes are to be expected.
And they’re a good thing. This happens all over the place where coaching changes have occurred. The difference is, now everyone has a tweet and so it get’s more publication.

I have some more thoughts on all of this around lunchtime..
I agree though, completely expected…just much more visible and honestly I think those taking to social media would be better served by just staying quiet.
Even Berglund, who has been extremely political in his response would probably be better off staying below the radar at this point.

Sitting on the couch watching TV.
If he was able to do that, then he should have been in Lawrence for the mandatory team meeting. I for one am happy to have the drama queen/cancer away from the football program so we can focus on those that want to be here.
It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care.
If he wanted to play at KU, why wasn't he in Lawrence?
Until that question is answered, it’s really hard to have any sympathy for the kid in this situation.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
Rock Chalk Talk
He's been this way since he came
Here is what we know about Berglund:
1) He had an assault charge for fighting someone at a movie
2) His teammates hated him
3) He skipped every meeting and workout he could
Now, here is what we also know:
1) We got Crist
2) We got Heapes
3) We still have Cummings (who I always thought was a better prospect)
4) Weis will be in on more top QB prospects
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out dude.

We also have Jablonski...
with the current roster it’s a two way battle between Jablonski and Cummings for the backup spot. I don’t know a ton about his style but I believe he might be more of a fit for Weis’s style than Gill. If that’s the case he’s a 3rd year player that might benefit a great deal from this opportunity.
I’m not saying he’s going to be the starter at some point, but he might grow as a player quite a bit and provide a solid back up option.
From what I have heard those two will have it out this Spring. How that goes will determine if we try to add a QB late.

No offense to you Owen or any other RCT contributors from CO
But Berglund’s attitude and cockiness was my overwhelming experience with most of the people I knew from Denver while at Kansas. I don’t know what it is about growing up in Denver, but I knew a lot of elitist snobs from thin-air country. Considering he never did jack for the team I’m not going to shed any tears over Weis showing him the door.
Owen isn't from Denver, he just lives there.

I’m not sure what it is. Maybe it is the altitude, the Swiss are real a-holes as well.

The Swiss are most likely a-holes because everything is so damn expensive in their country.

I like heavier and full bodied beers
But if I’m playing beer pong in my man cave or something else similar and I’m going to have 15 to 20 beers… Miller Lite all the way.
Lately though I’ve been going with Rolling Rock. Good, and I know a store here that sells a 30 pack of it for 17 bucks. Only drawback is its a St. Louis beer, and that is possibly my least favorite city in the union.

As a Colorado native
and one who went to KU and lived in Lawrence for a while afterwards, I’m not really seeing it.
Maybe it just seems that way because there are some really big differences in locations. Just because we could go skiing during winter break because it’s about 40minutes away, doesn’t make us snobs or elitists. Just means we have that at our fingertips.
You don’t see us calling you Kansas natives a bunch of backwood hillbilly’s because you spent the break drinking in wheat fields around a bon-fire.
And yes, every Kansan I know has told me they’ve gone to a “field party”
www.oreadboomkings.fantake.com
I lived in Denver for a year
and didn’t feel any of this EXCEPT when I was in the mountains and you run into locals in mountain towns. I think the attitude that some may have felt can be seen there but it’s just like being in a small town in any state.

Never in my life have I been to a field party
but I’m not sure growing up in OP really makes me a true “Kansan”
Use the forks
I grew up in Prairie Village and went to plenty of field parties
But not in wheat fields. I think some farmer would have been pretty pissed off if 100 HS kids drove their cars all over his wheat.
I grew up in OP and went to many field parties
Course most of those fields are no commerical real estate properties or subdivisions…..

OT but related to RCT
Today many websites are being blacked out to protest the SOPA and PIPA bills in congress. I’m sure many, if not all, of you are aware of these. The bills are designed to help fight piracy but would give the government control to shut down certain websites. Since links to pirated streams are often on RCT, that means this site could be shut down as well. So write/email/call your congressman and tell him/her to not support these bills!

just to play devil's advocate here
Perhaps we just stop providing links to illegally pirated streams if this passes?

by PenHawk on Jan 18, 2012 10:10 AM CST via mobile up reply actions
As long as they are properly labeled as "illegally pirated" :)
Honestly, I don’t know if a link is or isn’t. Google search, find link, copy it and paste it. sbnation should not be responsible for that. In my opinion anyway.
Yeah because pirated stuff has really ruined E$PN?

Last I saw, I think 40 senators are in favor of it
maybe with all of the recent outlash they will change their minds.
Head of House committee just said it won't go to the floor for a vote
http://oversight.house.gov/index.php?id=1558&Itemid=29&option=com_content&task=view
Would expect the Senate to follow suit. Piracy is a problem, but this bill was way too broad and would have restricted free speech.

That's not the committee of jurisdiction
I take Issa’s announcement as good news, but SOPA comes out of the Judiciary Committee and the chairman of that committee, Lamar Smith, is the author of the bill. I’m sure it won’t come up for a vote without some modifications, but whether those modifications are big or little remains to be seen.
Lamar Smith
is my rep. He’s already on record saying that his bill was too broad and will be modified. He tends to do that with all his stuff…….bid high and then negotiate and meet in the middle. In this case it’s more bid right and meet the left in the middle.
"No time for questions. No time for games. Start kickin' ass and takin' down the names." - Dave Mustaine.
All I've seen so far is that he'll take out the DNS modification
That’s a good start, since it would break the internet, but, as far as I can tell, he hasn’t said anything about the provisions that sites like SBNation are objecting to.
Issa has a very different bill. It will be interesting to watch how this struggle for power between the two chairmen plays out.
I would have to think his re-election chances are slim after all this
but then i am not familiar with tejas politics
In general, the bigger the state, the safer the seats
Gerrymandering is much more noticeable when you’re having to stretch a few districts all over the place to accomplish your goals. In a state with as many seats as Texas, it’s easy to shade all the districts just a bit so that all end up being safe seats.
Since it’s past the time for a primary challenge, I’d guess (without looking up his district) that he’ll coast to re-election.
are you asserting kind sir
that there is gerrrymandering in Texas politics??
Such an affront to my sensiblities. I challenge ye to a duel!
The name of that song played at KC Comets games in the '80's was Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase." Now you know.
Speaking of that
Texas redistricting for 2012 still isn’t finalized – it’s being held up in courts (the Supremes heard arguments last week) because new boundaries may violate the Voting Rights Act.
I have no problem giving up pirated streams
But my understanding is that the far bigger problem is user-created content that draws upon works protected by copyright. Like the Frank Martin pictures with captions from last week. It seems crazy to pass a law that could shut down SBNation for that.

by Andrew Clark on Jan 18, 2012 12:05 PM CST up reply actions
No, I'm saying that, under SOPA/PIPA, SBNation couldn't take that chance
I actually think that copyright protection is already way too strong and doesn’t need to be strengthened any more, and so, in that respect, I disagree with SBNation’s official position that any action is needed.
However, it seems clear that, if SOPA/PIPA were too pass, SBNation could not take the chance that users would post prohibited content and would probably have to shut down all these sorts of screengrabs and recaptions and fanposts and the rest.
I'm okay with strengthening enforcement.
But IP should be protected for a much shorter period. Like 15 years. Not 95.
Yeah, it's a joke
But whenever we approach Mickey Mouse entering the public domain, we get another extension on the term of copyrights. As long as politicians need money, I don’t see how that ever stops.
I’m just not clear that this new era of “rampant piracy” has caused any reduction in the quantity or quality of music, videos, or writings. Since that’s the only reason we have copyrights in the first place, it makes me think we could do with continued “piracy” until someone demonstrates that the public is actually being somehow harmed.
The uncreative exploitative IP-owning middlemen are harmed!
That’s practically a threat to our entire nation. What country do you think you live in?

Box score has him at 6 minutes, and it’s 4th quarter.
yes, flu-like.
had an IV and should be back for tomorrow’s game.
Although Channing Frye (his co-PF) played well in MK’s absence, so which one will be the starter is up in the air. Either way, he should get lots of PT, which is quite an accomplishment in itself.
