Welcome to Rock Chalk Talk and your open game thread for the Kansas Jayhawks vs the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Kansas looking to make it two in a row in Lubbock and two in a row on the road in conference. This has been a place where Kansas has had a couple of surprising losses in years past. Me three.
Hopefully we can come out like we did against KSU and not like we did against OU.
completely agree...
We need to come out, punch them in the mouth and keep the pressure on. We don’t need that let up like we did against KState though.

I'm feeling OK about this one too
I thipnk Gillespie is a good coach, but Pat Knight left the cupboard completely bare.
Well, you're supposedly getting married,
so that’s understandable. As for as KU goes, I’m not worried unless Oklahoma City fires their coach.

Eh, Tim Duncan is a lot older

So...yeah,
those are the only two jobs I see Self even considering leaving KU for.
Criticize FHOFNCHCBS at your own risk...
Correct, but I think Self
is certainly bright enough to realize you need some serious talent to win in the NBA. If the Thunder under-achieved I could see him looking at that job, but I think the Spurs are definitely on the downslide.

It's all about getting the right job.
There’s really only about 4 or 5 quality jobs in the NBA, and OKC and SA are the only ones Self would leave for, I think.

Hopefully we can win two in a row in Lubbock for the first time in 9 years. (I think it's been that long)
And it’d be great to have another road win period.
Iowa State giving Mizzou all they want in the first half.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Somebody who's more familiar with SBN sites
Tell me if any fanbase complains more about the refs than MU.
The game threads at RMN have constant complaining, but I think what puts them over the top was all the the complaining that about the officiating in our game against KSU last week.
KSU gives them a run for their money.
Especially when I watch their games. They’re famous for booing even the most obvious calls against them.

Not sure the game plan is “let the 5’8” PG drive the lane and get uncontested layups all night."
Criticize FHOFNCHCBS at your own risk...
Not so much, no.
It’s not the offense either (though that has sucked too). Our defense has been horrible so far.
Criticize FHOFNCHCBS at your own risk...
This is ridiculous. We play decent defense for 33 seconds, then let Willis blow by us.

I Expected Good
Things from him this season. He’s finally starting to come around. I was worried at the beginning of the season. BTW, when does Teahan make all these 3’s? I sure never see it.

Regarding Teahan...
My brother brought up a good point.
He only makes threes at home.
I thought he was wacko until last week at Oklahoma. Didn’t make any there either.
What? A girl who likes sports...INCONCEIVABLE!
Actual data
Teahan:
3pt FGM in road/neutral games
3 vs. Kentucky
1 vs. Gtown
0 vs. UCLA
0 vs. Duke
2 vs. Davidson
4 vs. USC
0 vs. Oklahoma
2 vs. TTech
That’s about 1.5 per game.
He should be.
Wasn’t sure what the delay was, but that last replay was ugly.

My favorite part of the first half
Was the guy who fouled Releford out on the 3-point arc and he tried to get it called in the act of shooting by doing some freestyle ballet. I wish basketball officials had microphones and personality like football officials so we could get a “foul in the act of ballet” call.

In college,
if the ball hits the backboard first, it’s automatically goaltending, right? And, in the NBA, it can hit the backboard as long as it’s not headed down already, right?
/easily confused
Criticize FHOFNCHCBS at your own risk...
But a layup would already be in the cylinder when it comes off the backboard, right?
So it would be goaltending anyway?
Imagine what Lebron James does right when a guy lays it off the glass on a breakaway.
It takes a great athlete with perfect timing to pull it off, but some can pick them off regularly.

I can't see them winning more than 2-3 conference games
Then again, they hung in with Baylor really well.
This year, it will be essential for KU to avoid an upset to a stinker. In the past, we could afford a random loss at Lubbock, Stillwater etc and still win the league by a game or two, plus those losses didn’t hurt our tourny profile.
This year though, less room for error. Three losses already, tough games remaining.
Like what I say tonight, slow start then all business. Feels good to wax em in a place that has been a mini house of horrors for us.

Dunno if it was a program
Bob Knight came in and had some decent seasons, but he is Bob Knight. Tough to recruit to Lubbock…

Haha I see your point
But its not Lubbock. Plus, Frank Martin has a few specific recruiting pipelines and actually has a persona/strategy/identity with his teams.
Thats a lot more than Tech has.
Gillespe is a good coach though, and he can recruit the state with the best of them. He’ll get them better.

Not quite as good from the field tonight
But still the fourth straight game with 12+ for Travis.
Nice to see Merv getting some minutes.
And he makes the box score by picking up the foul.

We could see the outline of her triceps through her shirt. Not normal.

What, 210th in KenPom
Doesn’t scream “stiff road test” to you?
I watched Auburn play Vandy last weekend.
They were really, really, really awful.
Let's hope we don't try these mediocre starts
against better teams.
