No big surprise here, Kansas is coming off of a 2-10 season and there aren't many in the media or otherwise that feel like Kansas can pull off a rapid turnaround. With that in mind the Big 12 preseason football poll was released and the Kansas Jayhawks are picked to finish last in the conference under first year head coach Charlie Weis.

The poll is a reminder of the harsh reality facing Kansas as they look to rebuild from a two season stint under Turner Gill. This program has a lot of rebuilding to do and they have to do it in a conference that is chock full of talent.

Oklahoma will enter the season as the favorite while newcomer West Virginia looks to be the biggest challenger to the Sooners in 2012. That spot has often been reserved for Texas who checks in at no. 3 followed by Oklahoma State, TCU and Kansas State.

The top six really speaks to the depth of the league this year when you consider Kansas State falls to the middle of the pack despite returning some of the major pieces to a team that finished 10-2 a year ago. Sure the Wildcats still have question marks, but Bill Snyder has to count for something.

The league rounds out with Baylor at no. 7 followed by Iowa State, Texas Tech and Kansas. Perhaps the only encouraging thing here is that Kansas has likely experienced more upheaval and change in the last 9 months than any team in the league. Expectations aren't through the roof by any means, but hopefully a roster full of players looking for a second chance can follow the lead of their new coach and surprise a team or two in the process.
