College Football Week One Open Thread

College football kicks off at NOON EST today. Of course we technically started on Thursday night and last night's Baylor v TCU contest definitely had a big time feel.  But it still doesn't feel official until you hit Saturday and kick it off.

New SBNation College Football Editor Sean Keeley brings us our week one College Football Buffet running down the best games to watch and those that might be a little under the radar.

Here's your early slate of games with the full slate after the jump.  This is your open thread for the day.  Sit back, relax and enjoy some football.  Come this evening we'll kick it off for the Jayhawks with a game specific open thread as Turner Gill takes the team out for year two and what we all hope is a win in week one against McNeese State.

Miami (OH) driving on Mizzou

just completed a 4th and 1.

No wait, he has to live in North Dakota, so that’s punishment enough.

FOOOOOOOOOOOOTBALL

AMERICA! BEER! FREEDOM!

Shit happens when you win championships

Lucky you...

I’ve got work in 5 hours, so no beer for this guy.

by hawkinwichita on Sep 3, 2011 12:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I feel ya

I also skip the beer and go straight for the hard liquor when I have to work.

It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care. (#739)

by KRichards on Sep 3, 2011 12:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Mizzou is looking very mediocre

Their cornerbacks look like a weakness, and Franklin’s accuracy is a bit inconsistent. Only up 10-0 at halftime.

No touching!

by PenHawk on Sep 3, 2011 12:38 PM CDT reply actions

Miami keeps shooting themselves in the foot

on offense or they could be tied. Missed a field goal, then got nothing out of a first & goal from inside the MU 10.

by hunter s. royal on Sep 3, 2011 12:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Auburn is also looking really weak

They did lose 16 of 22 starters, so not sure why they are even ranked.

It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care. (#739)

by KRichards on Sep 3, 2011 12:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Because...

Preseason ranking doesn’t mean anything. Look at Kstate in basketball last year.

by hawkinwichita on Sep 3, 2011 12:43 PM CDT up reply actions

it does in football

by fetch9 on Sep 3, 2011 12:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Really?

Since when did a preseason ranking matter? I’m pretty sure during our Orange Bowl year, if we didn’t lose to Missouri and beat OU in the Big 12 championship, we would of been in the national championship. What was our preseason ranking that year?

by hawkinwichita on Sep 3, 2011 12:48 PM CDT up reply actions

well not for a conference title

but for the national title? it definitely matters.

I write everywhere. You're probably better off following me on twitter

by fetch9 on Sep 3, 2011 12:49 PM CDT up reply actions

not really...

Orange Bowl year we start unranked and climbed to #2 before losing to Mizzou. We would of been playing for the NC if we won out even though we started unranked.

by hawkinwichita on Sep 3, 2011 12:52 PM CDT up reply actions

So in conclusion

It sometimes matters and it sometimes doesn’t

It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care. (#739)

no no

He's right...

Auburn year, it mattered. 07 it didn’t. It just depends on how the season plays out.

10-7 Mizzou...

Miami Ohio is giving them a run for their money

by hawkinwichita on Sep 3, 2011 1:13 PM CDT reply actions

10-6

And then almost a pick 6 by Miami

It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care. (#739)

by KRichards on Sep 3, 2011 1:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah it would be tied 10-10

If Miami’s kicker could make anything

It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care. (#739)

by KRichards on Sep 3, 2011 1:23 PM CDT up reply actions

17-6

Was it really that lame?

Could it be a long year for the tiggers?

Watched the 2nd half of BU-TCU

during breakfast while waiting for other games to start, and am as worried about BU as I am unworried GT. Wow!

by dagger108 on Sep 3, 2011 1:18 PM CDT reply actions

well...

I was more worried about Baylor then GTech to begin with.

by hawkinwichita on Sep 3, 2011 1:22 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

agreed

but all the more so after the first week

Definitely glad to see a good win for the conference – while it lasts.

After seeing Griffin play last year...

I knew he’d be a hand full for a lot of teams.

by hawkinwichita on Sep 3, 2011 1:26 PM CDT up reply actions

They still have nothing to show for a defense

It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care. (#739)

TCU

Wondering how much has to do with playing TCU, tho that may need another weeks worth of opponents to see how much has changed since last year.

by dagger108 on Sep 3, 2011 1:43 PM CDT up reply actions

True...

But when they put up 40-50 points, they got a good chance to upset some people like last night.
