College Football Week One Open Thread
College football kicks off at NOON EST today. Of course we technically started on Thursday night and last night's Baylor v TCU contest definitely had a big time feel. But it still doesn't feel official until you hit Saturday and kick it off.
New SBNation College Football Editor Sean Keeley brings us our week one College Football Buffet running down the best games to watch and those that might be a little under the radar.
Here's your early slate of games with the full slate after the jump. This is your open thread for the day. Sit back, relax and enjoy some football. Come this evening we'll kick it off for the Jayhawks with a game specific open thread as Turner Gill takes the team out for year two and what we all hope is a win in week one against McNeese State.

Miami (OH) driving on Mizzou
just completed a 4th and 1.

No wait, he has to live in North Dakota, so that’s punishment enough.

Lucky you...

Mizzou is looking very mediocre
Their cornerbacks look like a weakness, and Franklin’s accuracy is a bit inconsistent. Only up 10-0 at halftime.
No touching!
Miami keeps shooting themselves in the foot
on offense or they could be tied. Missed a field goal, then got nothing out of a first & goal from inside the MU 10.

Auburn is also looking really weak
They did lose 16 of 22 starters, so not sure why they are even ranked.
It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care. (#739)
Because...
Preseason ranking doesn’t mean anything. Look at Kstate in basketball last year.

Really?
Since when did a preseason ranking matter? I’m pretty sure during our Orange Bowl year, if we didn’t lose to Missouri and beat OU in the Big 12 championship, we would of been in the national championship. What was our preseason ranking that year?
by hawkinwichita on Sep 3, 2011 12:48 PM CDT up reply actions
well not for a conference title
but for the national title? it definitely matters.

not really...
Orange Bowl year we start unranked and climbed to #2 before losing to Mizzou. We would of been playing for the NC if we won out even though we started unranked.

ask auburn the year they went undefeated and got left out if they matter

So in conclusion
It sometimes matters and it sometimes doesn’t

no no
“modest but statistically significant”

He's right...
Auburn year, it mattered. 07 it didn’t. It just depends on how the season plays out.

Yeah it would be tied 10-10
If Miami’s kicker could make anything

Watched the 2nd half of BU-TCU
during breakfast while waiting for other games to start, and am as worried about BU as I am unworried GT. Wow!
well...
I was more worried about Baylor then GTech to begin with.

agreed
but all the more so after the first week
Definitely glad to see a good win for the conference – while it lasts.
After seeing Griffin play last year...
I knew he’d be a hand full for a lot of teams.

They still have nothing to show for a defense
It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care. (#739)
True...
But when they put up 40-50 points, they got a good chance to upset some people like last night.
some more realignment jazz featuring OU and Okie Light
