ESPN is now reporting as fact that the ACC has added Pittsburgh and Syracuse to their ranks. With this announcement, the Big East finds themselves in a precarious position similar to that of the Big 12. Pittsburgh was one of the few routinely competitive football programs the league had to offer, and both are highly-regarded basketball schools. Kansas' fallback option of joining the Big East if the Big 12 disintegrates now looks far less appealing. The losses of Pitt and Syracuse render the Big East's status as a BCS conference even less stable. There are still rumblings about Kansas being a possible target for the Pac-12 or ACC, but it's hard to feel safe as a Jayhawk fan in the world of conference realignment right now.
