Source Says OU to Apply to PAC12
I'd rather the whole thing blow up now and we all find our new spots than slap a band-aid on the Big12 and we bleed out for the next two years.
Maybe that's the medical student in me... but let's just get it over with. With that said, light the dynamite Sooners!

I'm with you...
…I’d rather preserve old rivalries and regional logic to conferences but as that doesn’t appear to be sustainable, let’s bite the bullet, break out the scalpel and carve ourselves up quickly so as to limit the pain.
Oh my dear lord...this is RETARDED boss...

Our fate is in Texas' hands
If they go to the PAC, were Big East bound. If not, we join OU in the PAC.

I do believe your comment has elevated this site to a new level of nerdery
Not that I’m complaining.

New rumor
that Texas, ND, Kansas and Missouri to the Big 10. I’d take that but think the Big 12 will prob survive instead.
link
that would be thebomb.com
I write everywhere. You're probably better off following me on twitter
Are we starting that rumor?
That’s obviously the best case scenario for Kansas.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

i would poop my pants if we pulled that off

We should start the rumor
I believe it was started by a northwestern rivals site (that UT and ND were in talks with the Big 10). For UT’s geographical benefit the logic is that KU and MU would be invited as well.
For this to happen I would assume Nebraska doesn’t have a vote yet?
Not sure it makes as much sense as a few of us joining the ACC (who supposedly would allow them to take the LHN— makes sense for the ACC as they’re on the chopping block if they can’t add some teams).
If "superconferences" are inevitable,
I think this makes more sense than anything for both sides. UT and ND might have to come down a peg but in the superconference world, I’m not sure where those two would fit in as they are right now. We don’t need to go into how much of a winner this move would be for us or Mizzou.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
Rock Chalk Talk
I'm sorry, I can't believe it.
It’s too good to be true.

My thoughts exactly
I’d love it. I think Kansas annexing part of the Oklahoma pan handle is the likely precursor to this happening.

Pretty sure
the Big Ten has a rule they can only expand to continguous states. Someone explain to me how Texas is a contiguous state to the Big 10. Even if they added Kansas or MU, they’d need Oklahoma.

for texas
i’m sure they’d say fuck it

Absolutely
If the Big 10 adds Notre Dame and Texas with one swoop (and the bargaining chips/other teams are Mizzou and Kansas and you could do a lot wore) then they haven’t hit just a home run, they’ve put one on the freaking moon.

the thought
The thought really kind of takes my breath away, you know?
Amusingly, the background ad on RCT right now is for the B1G Network….are the advertising Gods giving us a hint?
Alternatively
Big10 could pick up Texas, ND, Pitt and Missouri/Rutgers
by sevendeadlies on Sep 12, 2011 1:19 PM CDT up reply actions
Could be
Not sure what Pitt or Rutgers brings to the table though. The idea that anyone in NYC cares about Rutgers in the least is pretty funny. Pitt gives you a town slightly smaller than Kansas City (and a population rapidly aging/declining) and one that you already have a decent footprint in with Penn State. Neither of those teams also have a brand to sell.
Agree completely on Rutgers
I think anyone focusing on Rutgers because of the NY/NJ markets is being pretty lazy in their analysis. Rutgers has next to no fan base and it will be staying that way. I don’t see them as a viable option.
Pitt has a fan base and brings some legitimacy to the table, though I agree there are drawbacks. Either way, I would consider them somewhat of an obstacle.

Have always believed the Big Ten would look east
After finally adding Notre Dame. That’s just the way it is – more TV sets in that direction.
Unfortunately that is true
Ku can hope that just because they have a bigger potential market that their teams aren’t actually tapping into it. For example Rutgers, they don’t exactly put out football or basketball excellence year in and out to draw people to their games
by sevendeadlies on Sep 12, 2011 1:39 PM CDT up reply actions
Rutgers
may be close to NYC but this is not a Rutgers (or a college football for that matter) town. When I go to bars on a Saturday you see more people watching EPL than you do watching Rutgers football. I’m really not sure what the allure is…
If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
Yous missing an important point
And that is Texas would want KU and MU with them. More regional rivals for them and their fans in the new league, teams they have a little history with. Obviously, Texas would love to drag someone like Tech with them, but the Big 10 is never allowing that.
But the Big 10 would certainly add Kansas and Missouri to add Texas. I don’t think they can get a monster like Texas alone, the Longhorns will want someone with them. And if they can’t bring another Texas school or the Oklahoma combo, then KU and Mizzou are unquestionably the next logical step. They are AAU schools that can fit the Big 10’s academic mold (especially if Nebraska got in, with their revoked AAU card and all) and give Texas two former Big 12 conference foes.
Plus, you get a clear East and West division. You ensure the East division keeps the best football matchups/rivalries every year (Michigan vs. OSU, Notre Dame vs. Michigan, Notre Dame vs. Michigan State) and the West has rivalries too (Wisconsin vs. Minnesooooooooota, MU vs. KU, Texas vs. Nebraska, all former Big 12 teams vs. each other).
It is now easily the most powerful conference in the country. And you also added some insanely nice little pickups like Kansas basketball, the KC market, Texas markets, two awesome academic schools in Texas and Notre Dame, KU and Mizzou who aren’t too shabby in the classroom either…
This move makes too much sense if Notre Dame agrees to it.

I don't think the Big Ten wants Texas
or vice versa. They’ll go independent if the Big 12 dies. Big Ten could add Syracuse, Boston College or Rutgers to ND – those are states it’s not in now and there are large TV markets there.
The I-95 corridor will be highly coveted. The I-70 corridor, not so much. Not saying I like it, but that’s how this works.
To be honest
Do you think Texas would consider Ku and Mu rivals? I think that is reserved for TAMU, Ou, and to a lesser extent TT and OSU. Unless you are talking hard court rivals then Texas and Ku have been heating up over the past 8 years. The biggest road block would be to get Texas into equal revenue sharing imo.
by sevendeadlies on Sep 12, 2011 2:21 PM CDT up reply actions
Texas is a KU rival in hoops
and I was really looking forward to getting them home-and-home each year. But most Longhorn fans I know only watch hoops during the NCAA Tournament.
So no, Texas does not consider KU to be a rival in anything.
Agreed
Maybe, if you’re reaching, KU and Texas are considered regional rivals in hoops. But not really.
And in football….well, I don’t think KU has ever officially beaten UT (we did in 2005, unofficially in my mind). That’s far from being a regional rival.
But if the Big 10 did get Texas to join……I can’t wait for that UT / MSU hockey matchup!
"No time for questions. No time for games. Start kickin' ass and takin' down the names." - Dave Mustaine.
Don't be suprised
even though MSU hockey isn’t technically in the Big10…
If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
It could happen and it would be a grand slam for the Big 10, but UT is adamant about keeping their network like it is...
heck they may be in the Pac 16 right now it they would have given in about it I believe. I do hope that happens though, it would be great for y’all and Mizzou and it will be fun to see both ND and UT have to give up some of their perks, toe the line and play nice with Delany there to make sure they do so. Also, I would be funny seeing UT going up North for all those conference games to freeze their butts off as early as October.
I had a question for KU fans and if it has been answered many times before my apologies for bringing it up again, but is there any really strong political pressure in the state to keep KU and KSU in the same conference?
Reporter: What would you say a Greg Studrawa offense is like? Stud:

Not really
The Kansas Board of Regents has said they would prefer for KU and KSU to stay together, but there is nothing legally binding the schools together.
What? A girl who likes sports...INCONCEIVABLE!
I'm gonna disagree with ladyjay78 a bit
and say, while it’s true there’s nothing legally binding the schools together, there is strong political pressure to do so. But political pressure can only do so much.
"No time for questions. No time for games. Start kickin' ass and takin' down the names." - Dave Mustaine.
I think this is pretty accurate...
the Kansas chancellor has come out and made statements indicating that there is nothing binding the two and I think that’s part of finding a home. At the same time the BOR has stated that they would "prefer’ the two stick.
Right now I think it’s a matter of yes that would be great and both sides should work toward that, but when push comes to shove it and as this thing gets rolling it won’t matter.
Questions, Comments? email me at denverjhawk@hotmail.com
In the end
letting the state’s flagship institution miss out on a good deal because it’s tied to K-State will prove more politically deadly than not keeping them together.
Can't wait for those 49-46 barn burners.
And not sure Texas could really leave Texas Tech in the MWC after all the $ they’ve spent on facilities.
are you talking about
KU v Norther Illinois?
If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
Important note at the end of the article
It’s unclear if an application by OU to the Pac-12 would draw the same threats of litigation against the Pac-12 from those Big 12 schools.
Seems like OU’s move would get the same treatment as TA&M’s. They just signed a Big-12 contract, and my guess is they aren’t going to be able to get out of it very easily, if at all.

Yup
All of these moves will take months or years to finalize – could be tied up in courts for a long time.
