A&M to SEC getting serious | Tale of the Tait | KUsports.com
Hands down the news of the day. A scout and rivals report basically saying this as a done deal. Could be bad for Kansas if the superconference dominoes start to fall.

College Football
Increased scrutiny speeds up timetable for coaching success - ESPN
So wait? If Turner doesn't win a title we're supposed to fire him now? Someone better make sure the AD knows that.
2011 College football preview -- Coaches on the hot seat - ESPN
Some bizarre names on the list. Chip Kelly? Dana Holgorsen? JoePA!
Missouri Tigers recruit Sheldon Richardson finally practices with team - ESPN
Mizzou folks are pretty excited. I guess I would be too, at this point it's irrelevant until we show we can compete with them. Getting upset would be the equivalent of a Missouri fan thinking that Kansas landing Xavier Henry had any impact at all on the state of their bball program.

Looks like aTm really is leaving
If they don’t, then no one will take them seriously. Does anyone really take them seriously now?
Next step will be to see what OU does. If they stick around, the league can be saved. Again. If not – hello Big East?
NCAA raised the APR requirements for schools
and will be enforcing tougher penalties going forward. If this happened last year, a number of teams (KSU Purdue, Ohio State, USC) would not have been allowed into the post season.

It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care. (#739)
Sweet!
This is good news. For scholar-athletes, the scholar has to come first and big time corporations like football programs need to understand this.
build a damn football program, beat some ass, and get on tv more.
agreed
I could see the argument that maybe “scholar” doesn’t come first, but it can’t just be totally left out of the equation like it is now.

Is KU being proactive?
I’m an FSU alum from KU territory. The consensus in Tallahassee is that if FSU doesn’t act now, they will be left in a weak(er?) ACC. Reports are that they are talking with the SEC right now.
Does anyone know if KU is doing the same (Pac12, BE, something)?
Unfortunately we arent in a position of power like a Florida State would be with their football draw. Im sure we are being as proactive as we can but that most likely consists of us talk
ing to the big east in case we are left out elsewhere which is very possible.

This is all about football
Too bad it didn’t happen right after the ’08 Orange Bowl

ugh, Big East
I’m going to be so frustrated if KU joins the Big East just after I move to the West Coast.
Come on, PAC-Whatever!
Personally
I don’t want KU to move east or west. Right here in the heartland, where people are real, is where the Jayhawks belong.

Dr. Zenger talked to the J-W about it today
And didn’t really say much other than something about “working to protect our interests”.
Meanwhile, seeing and hearing a lot of chatter that the other nine would stick together if aTm left and seek one or more new members. Also, there’s the matter of how it would affect the new TV deal that starts in 2012-13.
And the Texas Legislature is getting involved. That will bog it down for a while.
As Rivet says above, we don't want KU to move to an east- or west-coast conference,
and KU doesn’t want that either. The good thing is that the same goes for the Texas and Oklahoma schools. Maybe the SEC works for them, but then they are no longer big fish in a medium pond. I think the long-run stable outcome is a midwest conference for the midwest schools.

Completely disagree with staying in Midwest
KU won’t be able to rub two nickels together with a TV contract if ATM and OU go to the SEC. I would love KU to go west but it looks like we want o greate a BB superconference by joining the Big East.
Who would take OU/ATM’s position Louiville, Cincy, WSU? no draw there. Also Tx would really be our sugar daddy who would control the league completely.
It all kind of rests on what OU does
Anyone else feel like the kid whose parents are getting divorced (again) and is worried about were you’ll be living – and with who?
Nope
Personally, I think this is still all hype and nothing more than A&M crying “look at me!!!! I still count too!!! Seee meeeeeee!!!!!”
Then the idiot media got involved. And it went downhill from there. Hell the media tried to stay that Rick Perry knew about it….but if you read his quote, he’s like….I’m reading the same things you are (which normal people would interpret to mean…he doesn’t know anything more than we do. But idiot journalist interpret as: he knows something! they must be talking!!!).
I don’t doubt that there is fire behind some of this smoke. But taking to the SEC just to piss off Texas (and get the commissioners attention) is much different than actually leaving).

2 points
1) If we join the Big Least to form a superball BBall conference, then we deserve our pitiful fate. Baskeball simply does not generate revenues like football does. This is all about football
B) Any move out of the midwest will cause travel costs to increase and probably destroy any increase in revenue we may or may not see.
I don’t see a single benefit to joining the Big East.

big east games whether it is football or basketball are some of the most unwatchable...
games in the country. I hope KU and K-State don’t end up in that conference.
Jerry Jones is Al Davis with a smile!
CHICAGO...Where Quaterbacks' careers go to die!
Why would anyone want to live in Oakland?
There is no benefit to joining the Big East compared to the Big 12
but the thing is, we’re talking about a future in which there is no Big 12. If that happens, I would greatly prefer the Big East to, say, Conference USA.
No touching!
What makes you say this?

I like the thought of all the young speedsters flying around on special teams
ST talk usually centers around the specialist, but the others can have a huge impact, so giving the young blood a chance to get on the field might really go a long ways to improving the team.
