‘Lockdown’ Brown says KU looks all sped up | KUsports.com
Sure would be nice to give him that nickname. He has the athletic ability, folks have said that about him since he was a freshman.

Kansas WR Chris Omigie hopes this is his breakout season | KUsports.com
Another talented player looking to turn a corner. This is going to be a big theme this year with so much youth. Who's your bet for a breakout season?

College Athletics

Is Texas A&M going to leave the Big 12 for the SEC? | KUsports.com
One day this is hot, another day it's not. A lot of smoke though and it sure seems like this is the type of domino that leads to the powerconference structure. Kansas has to make a play at either the Pac12 or Big East if this happens. I'd love the Pac12 opportunity but it would depend what other options they have.

Presidential summit could spark major NCAA change - ESPN
The NCAA has a long and dubious history of soaring oration followed by maddening stagnation. But the talk from the NCAA presidential summit gave reason for optimism.

Ironic

“Lockdown” Brown didn’t look lockdown in the play of the day vid. Pick went right up and over him to make the catch.

build a damn football program, beat some ass, and get on tv more.

I thought that was a...

bit of bad timing as well.

although he was in position.

I just think he underestimated the need to attack the football in the air. Catch it at it’s highest point! It’s one of the things the staff says McDougald is very good at in terms of his instincts.

Well that's a pretty big miscue...

And one of our biggest flaws from the corner position. I’m not saying that we are always in good position, but we are more often than you’d think, given how porous we’ve been. But for years, we’ve not been able to play both the man and the ball. Greg Brown in this video is the picture perfect example.

couldn't agree more...

A Davis is one of those guys that can stick with just about any MAN in the league but he never has a clue where the ball is.

I think you guys should watch again

I was not there to see the whole play unfold, but from what I saw in the clip Brown was playing the ball not the receiver. His eyes were not on Pick he was moving backwards to the ball and made a jump and contested the catch. He was not able to get a good jump on the ball and Pick made a great jump on the ball. Its a Highlight because someone made a great play. In this one Pick and Terry made great plays. I thought Brown was in good position and made a good attempt at contesting the catch, but made a poor jump. His timing was slightly off, but certainly no reason for you guys to slam who is probably our best corner.

I really wish we could see more than one 3 second glimpse of the Terry INT. I wish I knew how far he came for the interception or if it was a horribly thrown ball that he just had to lunge at. No matter what I’m curious who threw it.

by KUguy28 on Aug 11, 2011 10:09 AM CDT up reply actions

If you think we're slamming him now,

just wait until he gets beat during a real game. It’ll happen. Especailly if he keeps mis-timing his jumps.

I'm not saying he didn't play the ball...I'm saying he didn't play both
But for years, we’ve not been able to play both the man and the ball. Greg Brown in this video is the picture perfect example.

Not playing the ball is more often the problem, but it’s almost always one or the other. In this case, he was only playing the ball and not the receiver, and as a result, he got himself in a position where he couldn’t make the play he needed to.

by hiphopopotamus on Aug 11, 2011 3:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Looking at it again, I think it wasn't really Brown's "fault"

The ball was a bit behind Brown, so I suppose he could have altered his angle a little, but that’s a split second thing, and if he alters it too much, then he runs into Pick, causing PI. And he didn’t manage to jump as high as Pick did, which I can’t fault him for from what I see in the video. Pick had a better read (as WRs usually do, since they’re expecting the ball), and jumped higher.

In a sense, the throw was in exactly the right spot, in that Pick had to go get it, but Brown couldn’t.

It’s not as though Brown just totally whiffed or something, in which case I would fault him. Just happened to miss the play by a few inches. Credit to Pick for a nice catch, no fault by Brown not quite being able to break it up.

Kila's slash for Apr 20 to May 4, 2011, right before he was sent down: .276 / .344 / .448

Thats more my point

I thought he did a good job in coverage and everything, but just didn’t quite make the play. Its not his fault. I also like that you gave Pick credit. No one was giving Pick any credit for a well timed jump and good catch. I get tired of people focusing on the negatives.

At this point

A&M just needs to leave. UT isn’t going to stop dominating the conference, so they either need to find a new one or stop whining (don’t think that is gonna happen). Pretty confident KU will land in the PAC, or more likely, Big East.

Don't believe Rick Perry's non-denial denial

He knows nothing about the situation. The media got its panties in a wad because it knows any answer he gives will start up the rumor mill again.
But yes, if aTm wants to leave, let ’em leave. No sense in letting them hang around and complain like Neb did for 15 years.

Seriously

Does this advance the story at all?

"I’ll be real honest with you. I just read about it the same time as y’all did. … As far as I know, conversations are being had. That’s frankly all I know. I just refer you to the university and the decision makers over there."

that Rick Perry knows nothing. Period.

"UT isn't going to stop dominating the conference"

That’s what they said about OU too (did you see OU in the late 90’s?) in the Big 8. Pretty sure some said the same about the bugeaters in the Big 8 too.

UT stunk up the field last year in football, dominating no one. They might dominate in revenue generation for the moment, but these things tend to be cyclical.

Maybe a more accurate statement would be

UT isn’t going to stop dominating the state of Texas. A&M’s obsession with UT is the basis of their entire athletics dept.

by BluManGrp on Aug 11, 2011 1:12 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm not so sure that UT won't stop dominating the state of TX

I think that’s the entire emphasis behind the Longhorn network. The best defense is a good offense. UT knows it’s current position is likely to weaken. Just consider all the things nipping at their heels:

1) All the Big 12 teams will play everyone each year which should make it easier for the old North teams to recruit from TX
2) UTSA is building a football program in a football-starved market with a national championship winning coach.
3) Texas State’s football program keeps growing each year (now lead by Dennis Franchione). I believe they were getting towards 40K a game last season.
4) TCU is one of the top teams in the country now
5) Houston, SMU and even lowly Rice are seeing their programs surge
6) A&M was the second best football team in the state (behind TCU) last season.
7) Let’s not forget Tubberville out in west TX
8) Grandpa Brown is getting old. Their “head coach in waiting” was poached by another program.

This is a program that is under attack from many angles. It’s going to be interesting to watch how all this plays out.

by Rivethead on Aug 11, 2011 2:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Interesting

If UT DOES think that other Big XII teams will start to poach TX talent, perhaps they continue the HS games on LHN thing to break up the Big XII and go independent…?

I don’t think this is the case, but is fun to speculate about. Even now, everyone recruits TX hard, and the Horns more or less get who they want.

Wow

Surprised that the NCAA took the initiative and made, IMO, the right decision. Mack doesn’t sound too happy about the LHN either. UT is going to be interesting to watch this year…

Mack's opinion may not count for much

Word is he can have the AD job at North Carolina if he wants it. And if the team misses another bowl and/or gets blown out by OU, the Whiny Orange fans will be begging for him to take it.

by jayhawk1996 on Aug 11, 2011 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions

I was referring to money/influence in the conference

Doubt that changes unless they suck for a few more years, which I just don’t see happening.
