I was

extremely happy to see the Twins get drafted to decent franchises that have histories of winning. Glad the T-Wolves did not pick them. Disappointed that Selby fell so far. I thought the Spurs or Bulls in the late first would take him. I guess he can take that as motivation and play like he is capable of playing. I hope nothing but the best for all 3.

I thought he would've been a great fit for the Bulls

I think he could’ve played Derek Rose-lite very well, and I think the Miami series showed they need someone like that.

I think Markieff is a great fit for the Suns

An athletic power forward with the ability to hit the open three in transition. Bad ass. Plus, he has a teammate who has a twin in the league (Robin Lopez). What’s not to like?

Shit happens when you win championships

This is how they've been using Channing Frye the last couple of years

and he’s found a lot of success in that system. I think Kieff will do the same.

Kief isn't nearly the shooter Frye is...

But he is a lot better at everything else.

Robin and Kief

Can you see them introducing themselves as twins. “No, really, we are.”

Would that make them paternal twins?

Houston fans surprisingly narrow-minded.

At least some seemed to understand that you should draft for ability not for team need. Especially in the NBA where assets get traded all the time. But the most common response was along the lines of “you didn’t draft the right position”.

You’d think that fans of a team with a stats-process and forward-thinking GM/FO would have a better grasp on things like this.

Yeah, I think multiple teams across sports have shown

that BPA is the right draft strategy unless you are really just one guy away. Miami or Chicago can reach for need, because they are so close. For the most part though, you take all the talent you can. I don’t think the Patriots thought they needed a new QB, but they thought Mallett was the most talented player, and they picked him. There were some players that you could argue are more talented available for Houston to pick, but it’s not like a Blake Griffin or John Wall was there for them to pick.

A couple of side notes:

I usually roll my eyes at ‘emotional’ sports moments, but it was definitely touching to see the Morrii get teary.

Not really KU related:

I haven’t really followed the NBA super closely since the Jordan-era until this post-season, but always have rooted for the Cs, so I was pretty stoked when they took Marshon Brooks (my favorite prospect not projected in the lottery). I was kind of let down when they traded him, but most people seem to think the Celtics did pretty decently. I’d be interested to hear what you guys think about what they did.

And finally, anyone particularly excited/disappointed with what their favorite team did?

by ajanzen on Jun 24, 2011 6:09 PM CDT up reply actions

well the Bulls are my team

and I’m not really sure how I feel about what they did. Mirotic sounds like he’ll be in Europe a couple years before he’s NBA-ready, so that’s kind of a wait-and-see deal. I’ll admit I don’t know a ton about Jimmy Butler, but Chicago didn’t really have a true 3 to back up Deng, so I don’t have a problem with it. Some Bulls fans are mad they didn’t address their lack of a shooting guard, but they were picking so low they weren’t going to get an immediate-impact guy, so I’d rather see them address that in free agency anyway. Overall, just not a big night either way for the Bulls.

As for your Celtics, I’d be happy. I’ve really liked what JaJuan Johnson has done at Purdue the last couple of years, and I think he’ll be more like what they thought they were getting in the Jeff Green trade last year.

Celtics

are becoming a favorite. With Pierce as the cornerstone, and then they add a pair of Boilers (Johnson & Moore), tho still shaking my head over them passing on Mario.
