Great Fan Debate Follow Up: T2 vs EJ
So at the time of the Great Fan Debate, I kinda got my ass kicked. I believe about 2/3 of people voted for Elijah Johnson over the superior candidate, Tyshawn Taylor. Now that we have a 5 game sample to look at since all those confused people voted for EJ, I thought I'd compare their numbers over these past five games. Results after the jump.
I've included minutes per game, but all other numbers are per 40 minutes played...
MPG TO/40 Pts/40 Reb/40 Ast/40 Stl/40 eFG% FT%
Taylor 24.2 3.6 17.9 4.0 5.3 1.0 58% 77%
Johnson 15.2 2.0 5.8 4.2 3.2 1.0 55% N/A
The only statistical argument for EJ is that he turns the ball over less frequently. The shooting argument is even out the window at this point. Tyshawn is scoring and dishing out assists at a much, much better rate than EJ. Plus, now that EJ has been given his big chance, T2 is back to starting and playing far more minutes. I'm not even sure Johnson is playing better defense, though it's hard to quantify.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone still believes that EJ needs to be playing PG for us at this point.

i'll admit it
i voted for EJ the first time, but tyshawn has played excellent of late…he seems to be making better passes and driving the ball much more…let’s hope he keeps it up, but if he doesn’t at least we know we’ve got a backup who’s capable of starting.
BOOM YOSTED!

As long as TT is not playing Space Cadet, play him
But unlike earlier this year, you can bet if TT goes turnover viral Self will have EJ on the floor in a heartbeat.
"So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late."
T2 turnovers just tend to look bad
the quantities aren’t as egregious as everyone thinks. Compare T2’s assist:turnover ratio during conference play this year: EJ 1.5:1, Taylor 1.6:1. During this 5 game stretch they’re both at 1.5:1. Unless Taylor has about 10 turnovers in one game, I don’t think Self will be pulling him for that alone.
Yeah, I think it was the Colorado game on Friday where he just lost his dribble at the top of the key
leading to a Burks dunk. It’s still only one turnover but it’s tough to erase from memory.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
Rock Chalk Talk
Voted for EJ originally
after yesterday, have to go with Tyshawn. When he plays that way, the way he’s capable of, he is very valuable and the no brainer choice. It’s good to know that if T2 starts f’n around, that we have EJ to look to off the bench.

At the time, I think giving EJ a chance to start over Tyshawn
was absolutely the right move, and I think he earned his way back to the start. EJ got his chance, TT had to earn it, we won a bunch of games, everybody wins.
