Tyshawn Taylor Suspended Indefinitely
It's stuff like this that will prevent the guys from playing in Houston in April

Guess we'll see what the offense is like w/ Selby running the show.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

i agree
we can see if selby is a true pg while playing on the ball for an entire game
Which is a great experiment to run right at the end of the regular season with a freshman who has played in half our games and is recovering from an injury.
Agreed.

Pretty sure I'll be disappointed if he's not.

If Selby does not play PG much...
I will assume Bill Self has a good reason for it.

Agreed. But that doesn't mean that I won't be disappointed about it.
For a guy that Bill Self openly stated was the most talented kid he’s ever recruited to not be able to play point is pretty disappointing (if that’s the case).

I'm fine with that, but . . .
Selby has the worst assist to turnover ratio for KU guards (1.15 to 1). Morningstar has the best (2.86 to 1), but I think he’s not quick enought to run the point and he should be setting up for open threes. Reed is good at 2.04 to 1, while Johnson is 2.23 to 1. Taylor was at 1.69 to 1 for whatever it is worth. I say put EJ at the point.
It's always something.
But you know who I blame for this? The sleepy-eyed Kansans.

Yeah maybe he slept through a morning meeting....
… you know how those sleepy eye’d KU players are.

Not going to class at all?
Otherwise, I don’t see how grades would have an impact this time of year.

Id be shocked if he misses a tourney game
so while I wouldn’t call this suspension irrelevant or anything maybe it will be good to get some other people running the show a bit
maybe
but I’m not a big believer in the PG getting suspended for violation of team rules the week after he talks about “focus” being a good thing in any capacity.

I see your point.
And just coming on here and reading what you said has already made me back down a bit from my initial state of complete ambivalence. I’m not a little upset at Tyshawn and do realize it’s bad for the team.
But at the same time, Tyshawn is an incredibly volatile player. He has yet to put a consistent stretch of solid play together in all 3 years at Kansas, and I’m positive he’s one of our five best players. I realize it’s stupid on one level to say that, but at the same time I am excited to see what Josh, and to a lesser extent Elijah, can do with the ball in their hands more. For one, because it will provide a significant amount of experience to their credentials for the Tournament for two otherwise inexperienced players. It will also provide an audition stage, as I get the feeling Bill’s crunch-time five is still yet to be decided — he isn’t married to Brady in the five, certainly. So, it allows Elijah and Selby a chance to grow as players and get better by the Tournament, and maybe it will kick Tyshawn in the ass. If not, I wouldn’t be opposed to continuing to sit him in the Tournament.
I'm sure he'll be back for the Mizzou game
but the trajectory is looking like an Elite Eight berth at best – no leaders and not a lot of solid defenders on this team. Makes you really appreciate the 2008 squad.
And last year's trajectory looked like national champs.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball...Rock Chalk Talk
So did 2008, IMO
Had a better feeling about both those teams than I do about this one. Must have been Sherron.
/facepalm
Least we’ll get to see EJ a bit more – I think he’s a better T2 replacement than selby, especially if selby doesn’t have his legs back yet

The LJW had a little blurb also
that said we offered a scholarship to Cezar Guerrero, a senior PG from California. Coincidence?

Kicked out or left?
I read something about how their PG was a ridiculous ballhog.

Tonight's game just got really, really interesting
First off, who starts in his place? Knowing how risk-averse HCBS is, I would bet Brady. I think Tyrel and EJ will bring the ball up and get into the offense most of the time, which is really the only things the “PG” in our offense does.
At this point, Tyshawn has become the ultimate black sheep of the Jayhawks. You love him because he’s family, you see the potential when he gets.out of his own way, but you also recognize that, to be blunt, the kid’s a fucking idiot.
I also can’t help but remember that TT never wanted to be a Jayhawk. He was set for Marquette before Crean went to IU, and came to Lawrence because he could start right away when we were depleted at guard.
Get your shit together, Tyshawn.

Yes
If not, I guess we’d go EJ Morningreed. Although I still say we should try Marcus at point because he has the highest hoops IQ and would be a matchup nightmare.
by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Feb 21, 2011 12:40 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
He'd also be a nightmare trying to dribble against pressure.
He handles it well for being 6’8’’ but he’s not Magic.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball...Rock Chalk Talk
The only other person to run the point this year has been EJ
I’d start him at the point.
We tried running Brady at the point a game in the non-con and it wasn’t pretty
Shit happens when you win championships
I really hope Selby gets to play the point for a majority of the game tonight.
In the games he was suspended, all we ever heard about was how good of a driver he was, and he’s been almost the exact opposite, as more of a spot of shooter. Granted, he has run some fast breaks nicely, and has shown that he can get to the lane, but he’s been primarily a shooter. Should be interesting to see what he can do with the ball in his hands now.

The drama around
this team reminds me of the ‘88 NC team, which on April 4th looked nothing like the team that started the season in December. The difference? I don’t see the guys with the character of Manning, Piper, Newton, and Pritchard to hold things together and pull it off. The skills are there…not sure about the intangibles.
no,
that team kinda came out of nowhere and was unranked for a time.

It may be my recollection
but I believe that team was selected as the National Champion by The Basketball News in the preseason, a highly respected print publication before everyone became an internet expert. Marvin Branch, Otis Livingston, and Mike M (big guy from Grandview) were all dismissed from the team for various reasons and Archie Marshall wrecked the other knee. They did have to claw their way into the field, but it was almost all of their own making. They didn’t come out of nowhere. They drove themselves to nowhere and then came all the way back.
Yeah, plus KU has made the Final 4 two years earlier
Everyone know how dangerous Manning was, and if he (and KU) got hot they could make a deep run

The drama's the same
but the ’88 team had to scratch and claw to make the field. This group will be scratching and clawing for a No. 1 seed.
Did TT
get in a fight with Anthony Davis again?
build a damn football program, beat some ass, and get on tv more.
Please tell me he wasn't fighting the women's basketball team...

Not ignoring that. Sweeping such issues under the rug bothers me.
I’m well aware most fans probably disagree with me on this being a positive.

In 2008, after the loss to Ok St, there was a players only meeting
Have they had one this year?

this seems like a group that doesn't...
have that sense of urgency in their makeup to have a come to jesus meeting

I heard, or maybe read (Here maybe?), somewhere that they haven't had a players only meeting.
At least as of a few days ago. A couple guys stood up in a meeting and said some things, but that was with the coaches there.
I have no clue and I honestly don't care.
If someone’s talking basketball with these guys, I want it to be Bill Self. In the end, I’d bet that more losing teams have players only meetings in the end than winning teams.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

That was reported last week @ KUSports.com
I want to say Wednesday….somebody asked Coach Self about a players only meeting. His said no.
build a damn football program, beat some ass, and get on tv more.
My guess is Johnson will be the primary PG for this game.
I don’t think Selby is ready and, more importantly, I don’t think Bill Self trusts Selby with running the point.
It seems that we are going to get to find out how good this team is without Taylor. A number of KU fans have been wishing for just that. Hope it works out. But I myself am not optimistic that this is a good thing in any way.

I think we see a lot of Selby tonight.
My guess is he plays 25+ minutes in Tyshawn’s absence. EJ will also see minutes, but PG duties will be split between Morningreed, EJ and Selby. We’ll see who gets the ball the most, but my guess is it’ll be Selby.
...and the home of the Brave
I think we will see more EJ at the point than we have seen all season

BTW Bensa
I saw the debacle of the anthem at the game the other night. The guy ended up singing both the anthem and the alma mater, just not at the right times or order. He did both fairly well, just not knowing when to sing them is problem!
The fans were taken aback by it, or at least the fans that were paying attention. Some even booed with they realized what as going on.

I heard about it,
and I gotta say I feel for the guy. I understand he has a pretty amazing voice, but sometimes the pressure gets to you, I guess. Hopefully it’s a good learning experience for him.

Well he can't be our starter the rest of the year
It takes basically a whole year for a team to get the type of chemistry it takes to make a run in the tournament and Tyshawn is destroying it. He has to be relegated to a role player and Elijah or Selby should be given the reigns. I’ve defended Tyshawn his whole career to all his doubters but it’s time to move on
I can't ever remember a season of so much drama in Jayhawk land

I think you'll find a lot of Jayhawk fans
agreeing with you on this point today. At what point do we throw our hands up and say “enough is enough!” It’s getting very, very old. They’re an immensely talented group of players, and probably most of them are good dudes, but there have just been so many distractions the last couple years; it really starts to wear on me.
In HCBS we trust, though, right?
