Davidson topples KU 80-74 at the Sprint Center - KansasCity.com
The scene has become all too familiar in recent years: A team from a mid-major conference celebrating a victory over the Kansas Jayhawks, who leave a neutral floor confused as to what just happened. This time, as the final seconds ticked off of Davidson’s 80-74 win over No. 12 KU on Monday night in Kansas City, the Jayhawks fired up a barrage of desperation three-pointers in front of a half-empty Sprint Center.

Lack of depth costs Kansas carrot, stick | KUsports.com
Any coach’s two best friends are his carrot and his penalty box. The carrot he holds is known as playing time, the penalty box a folding chair a few seats down the row. The carrot goes to those who apply the detail given to them in preparation for the opponent. The penalty box is where players who don’t follow the script go to watch the game.
(Mid)major bummer: Davidson proves KU ‘not that good’ | KUsports.com
"I don’t know if you can take as much from this game as maybe other games," Self said, asked about some of KU’s losses to mid-majors in the past. "This team is not that good."

Todd O'Brien: St. Joe's won't give release to play at UAB - NCAA Basketball - SI.com
Must read. Graduate transfer student similar to Crist, yet isn't getting released to play at his new school. This is the player's side, hopefully this article either clears up or fixes this situation.

Frustrating loss last night, but about what I expected coming into the season
I think the most disappointing part was seeing Kevin Young completely disappear after the great Ohio State game.
Part of me thinks this loss is a good thing because it will allow Self to get their attention and focus them over break (I don’t think I ever remember a KU team that eases up as quickly after success as this team), but part of me thinks that this game is just setting out a template for how to beat us (physical, aggressive defense and rebounding combined with on-ball and off-ball screens to open up 3 pointers). I’m back to thinking that Sweet 16 is about this team’s peak.
The story about Todd O'Brien frustrates me.
Just sign the dang release. He isn’t going to your school and he isn’t playing in your conference. Heck, he just completed his first semester of grad school at UAB in a grad program that isn’t offered at St. Joe.
St. Joe needs to realize this situation isn’t putting them in a positive light and could really hurt their recruiting long term.
What? A girl who likes sports...INCONCEIVABLE!
The SI article is a good read
Reading between the lines, it sounds like St. Joes pulled some strings to subsidize some classes for him so he could graduate in four years. He then turned around and tried to use his last year of eligibility at another school.
I can understand why St. Joes would be upset, but it seems like a vindictive move to deny the kid’s transfer. It seems like a fair compromise to have the dad play for the classes and let the kid play. St. Joes has nothing to gain by this move.
Agreed. That's the part I don't get about the stance taken by St. Joe's.
Of course, before the SI article this would have flown completely under the radar. And with all the shit that has floated to the top over the last couple of years in college athletics, they might figure this will go away without too much of an issue.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

I hope this bad press is enough to get them to release the kid
Can anyone explain to me why a release from the school is necessary to being with? As far as I understand scholarships are 1 year deals anyway right? The school can revoke them after a year but the player can not get out of a multi-year commitment unless the school grants it?
I did see something in the article about the St Joes saying the transfer was an athletically motivated choice. I guess I could see needing a sign-off for that but at the same time isn’t that why they have transfers sit out a year? So they can’t jump ship for athletic reasons alone, or at least can’t jump ship immediately.
The whole situation just boggles my mind. I realize it’s a biased article but at the same time St Joe’s and to a lesser extent the NCAA are looking pretty bad on this one.
The NCAA pulled a typical oversight agency move
If push comes to shove, they’ll call a ball or a strike, but they expect the two parties to figure it out for themselves. The NCAA did the lazy thing and essentially said ‘the institution blocked the transfer and the rule says it can’. Nevermind if the rule or procedure is correct.
It redirects the focus back to the school and keeps any legal headaches at arm’s length.
brannen green
commits to Kansas. First domino, said he’s gunna be recruiting hard for KU now. Isaiah Lewis will decided before the 26. Looks like he is leaning towards us. If we get those 2 al freeman and Chris walker look like very real possibilities
so much for the recruiting being terrible talk

Weren't we
supposed to have a complete football staff by now? Or is the complete staff going to be just Weis, Mitchell, Ianello, and Grunhard?
On the day Weis was introduced I thought he said 80% of his assistants had been hired and they were just wrapping up the paperwork.

Wondered the same thing yesterday.
Zero information on anything from the defensive side of the ball and with Weis getting the hip surgery done, can’t see a lot getting done anytime soon. Waiting on somebody to finish the bowl season?

I'd imagine some assistants requested not to be announced until after bowl season
So it is not a distraction to their team

DC is in a bowl
and we’re in a dead period. Nothing to do until after bowl season.
my thoughts too
Although I’ve heard many places that Leavitt is an absolute no, I can still hope, can’t I?
Pay heed...
