Around SBN: Where Do The Lakers Go From Here?

Start the Debate!!!!

Given the very real possibility that KU could soon be in line for a new head football coach; I say, let's light this candle. I'll start. Considering that there is probably a great deal of bad blood remaining, and that the school would be too proud to do it, I won't throw Mangino into the mix (though, I'd love to). I'm going with Mike Leach, for many reasons. He, desperately, wants a job. He can't possibly need a lot of money (I'd venture to guess that getting rid of Gill won't be cheap). He knows the conference. And he has plenty of talent to work with. Nice and quick, but it doesn't require much. Let the ideas flow!!!!!!!

You Mangino fans blow my mind

No one else will even touch the fat man. You know why? They actually look at his entire record, not just ’07.

Hire someone that doesn’t drive his staff away every year with his prickishness, please. And someone that doesn’t have the cops coming to his house all the time for domestic disturbances would be nice, too.

Have KU football fans had their self-esteem shattered so much that they can’t even push for a coach that succeeds on the field and isn’t a complete embarassment off the field, as well?

Who

Considering that this pick has to excite casual fans and boosters, I’m not sure who you could hire besides guys that are a bit soiled.

You've posted this on here ten times, we get it

And you fail to take into context that KU was horrible before Mangino arrived. Just the fact that he was making bowls and winning 6-7 games a year is miles of progress compared to the Allen teams.

What more did you want? Did you want KU to go get Urban Meyer and have him take the program from the Allen depths to a national title contender?

Your entitled to your opinion of Mangino, but your utter lack of respect for what he did with the program and his success (keeping in mind what he inherited) shocks me.

2005: 7-5
2006: 6-6
2007: 12-1
2008: 8-5

Three bowls in that stretch. GIven what we’ve endured over the past two years under Gill, I can’t believe you are still driving the “Mark Mangino was a horrible coach and super overrated” bandwagon.

i don't know about horrible coach

but i’ll jump aboard the super overrated part.

And i said the same thing in the past

But my overall point is that he should be overrated at this point. Just look at the horrendous product on the field we’ve had the last two years.

I mean, Mangino’s ability to only win 6-7 games a year and go 3-5 in the league don’t look so terrible now when we root for the worst team in a BCS conference.

Well

He’s still the only person on the planet who’s been choosen by his peers as National Coach of the Year AND National Assistant Coach of the Year.

Apparently his peers aren’t as smart as you are.

And in case this wasn't specific

Mike Leach lives in the Keys. Just throwing that out there.

Yes

Thanks for posting. That’s a pretty good summary/opinion.
