So far everybody seems to be saying the right things and having a positive attitude after loss number one. Need a win against Georgetown.

Definitely an opportunity for this group to come together.

TEBOW!!

The legend of Tim Tebow grows - AFC West Blog - ESPN
I can't yet claim to be a Denver fan and I've always been skeptical of Tim Tebow. But I went to this game last night and I've been watching Tebow since he was given the starting job. It's hard to tell why it happens, but there is little doubt that this guy has something special about him. He elevates everyone around him from the players to the coaches to the fans.  This was the most exciting pro football game I've been too and it really wasn't that exciting. What made it exciting was the fact that you just knew Tebow was going to lead that last drive and the stadium was absolutely rocking. I'm a believer in Tebow on some level. Longterm we will see, but I can now at least understand Florida's obsession with him and it's happening in Denver.

This absolutely awful and my heart goes out to their families and the entire Okie State fanbase.

I really hope this doesn’t come across as heartless because it is definitely not my intent, but how much do people think this will effect their recruiting (if it does at all)? I’m always a little anxious when it comes to plane rides so my views are probably skewed, but if I was a recruit I’d probably look elsewhere.

Since the 2001 crash, all OSU basketball players ride on larger jets

Only coaches and administrators take smaller planes, and they are inspected more carefully than what is required prior to takeoff. Still, it has to be something people think about – no matter what school it is.

I just don't get why anyone would get on one of those small planes

I’m sorry, but look at all the small plane crashes from over the years. Safety record with those things is poor, especially compared to commercial aviation. I know I wouldn’t get on one, and I fly all the time.

I feel terrible for the families involved, and anger that the 2001 crash didn’t establish that small turboprop aircraft shouldn’t be used by Universities any more. Not today, when there are so many commercial flights available all over the country.

For me, it's all about control.

I feel like I am more in control of the situation in a vehicle vs. an airplane. Doesn’t matter how much safer planes are vs. cars. I am putting my life in the hands of others and that is a really hard thing for me to do. Plain and simple, I like being in control and I trust myself.

There's no problem in saying I don't like planes any more than I like taxis

Although that control is an illusion, it’s at least a consistent one.

You control the other drivers on the road?

I want that power.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

I think he's getting at that same point I was going for with my "control is an illusion" comment

The danger on the roads primarily comes from other drivers, who are outside of your control.

I'm talking more taking chartered jet planes and commercial options

Not so much “don’t ever get in a plane,” more just saying with so many commercial routes available why not take that? Or try to find a regional jet alternative to a small turbo prop?

I'm a pilot, and I've known a lot of very good older pilots

But I’m pretty surprised to see that their pilot was 82 years old.

by KSinDC on Nov 18, 2011 1:37 PM CST up reply actions

so are younger pilots supposedly better?

by fetch9 on Nov 18, 2011 1:44 PM CST up reply actions

I wouldn't make that blanket statement

but 82 years old isn’t younger vs older. It’s about whether someone’s fit to fly at that age.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

In general, younger people have faster reactions, better senses, and more processing power in their brains

More experienced pilots have more experience, and that matters a lot, but there are certainly declining returns.

There’s a reason you don’t see anyone doing auto racing at 82 years old.

by KSinDC on Nov 18, 2011 2:37 PM CST up reply actions

that makes sense

i was just trying to weigh experience vs. better physical abilities

Almost all airlines have mandatory retirement by age 65

I feel as safe on any american airline as I do anywhere else.

There’s one exception to that. I will not fly Pinnacle Airlines or any of their subsidiaries (Mesaba or Colgan Air). Whenever I fly on a regional carrier (US Airways Express, United Express, etc) I always check to see who’s operating it. If it’s Pinnacle, Mesaba or Colgan, I will not fly it. The crash in Buffalo was a result of systematic policies at that company that put unsafe pilots in command.

On any other airline, there’s no doubt in my mind that the drive to the airport is far more risky than the flight from the airport.

by KSinDC on Nov 18, 2011 3:39 PM CST up reply actions

totally agree with your last statement

and the calm rational side of me realizes that. however the superstitious side of me needs like a 24 pack of beer before getting on a plane

Yep

Why most airline pilots are between 35-50… a good mix of experience and you are not to old to think and react quickly.

The pilot was the owner of the plane

Former Okla. State Sen. Olin Branstetter. Wonder if he’s any relation to Jacob?

Steven Johnson...

loves the University of Kansas. And I’ll remember him fondly regardless of what the W/L record was during his time. Great story, he’ll succeed at whatever he decides he wants to do next.

That Gridiron

was a tough one. Just sad we couldn’t finish that one out to get Steven Johnson and the rest of those seniors a win. Just didn’t make plays at the end.

TAMU didn't look so awful actually,

especially considering how the refs were practically in St. John’s jerseys, eesh.

Unbelievable

Very impressive effort by Iowa State.

There is no reason in the world that KU should be this much worse than the Cyclones. Seeing what Rhoads has done there just reinforces how awful Gill has been.
