Bevo TV deal is done
Formal announcement coming this afternoon. It's for 20 years, $300 million. Despite what Dan Beebe wants you to believe, this is what kept the Little Big 12 together.
There's no telling what can be built with this amount of scratch. It's safe to say that Texas will hold a competitive advantage over the rest of the league for some time.
But hey, at least KU and K-State aren't playing in the Mountain West, right?

Anyone have the link to the thread that had all the photoshops of these?
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Like that original post that guy made where he made fun of these statues?

I thought it was at EDSBS, grr.
Saw it on RR maybe, I’ll have to run a search.

True Story:
Every African-American player in that atrocity is patterned off of Michael Jordan, because that was the only African-American mold the manufacturers in the Philippines had.

Will we even have television as we know it in 20 years?
Here’s a bet:
By the time that contract is up, KU will have its own channel, as well. Mark it.
No idea why any cable provider would bind itself to a deal that long… before they even have a single show produced.

But does KU really need it?
I was thinking about this when I was a lad: KU basketball already gives us a TV advantage. KU hoops has the monopoly on local TV coverage. ESPN already broadcasts KU games anytime it can. In the end, KU is on TV from a basketball standpoint (thanks Turner) more than any other Big12 school.
Combine with say, last year, when KU football was still on TV quite a bit despite being terrible, and KU is in a really good spot TV wise when you combine football and basketball, at least compared to other Big 12 schools

It's not about a lack of TV appearances.
While I don’t think KU could get that big of a deal, why wouldn’t you go for something like this if it can bring in around $10 million a year? UT’s $15 million a year (average) is looking pretty damn good considering they are going to make that ON TOP OF the $20 million Beebe garaunteed them. Talk about the rich getting richer.
UT’s deal is only for 1 football game and 8 basketball games. There’s enough fluff in both schedules for them to get a few games against a team that wouldn’t normally be televised. I’m sure you could find more than one KU football game last year and 8 games basketball games this year that were/are not televised or not carried by a big enough carrier to make a profit.
Surgeon General's Warning: K-State-Mizzou basketball may increase the risk of high blood pressure. Please consult your doctor prior to watching any of these games.
All hoops game are already on TV
and you can pay for Full Court or watch on ESPN3.com if you don’t get the Jayhawk or Big 12 Networks for basketball. The key for the Big 12 is getting all its football games on TV each week, like the Big Ten and SEC currently do.
If KU has a network, it would likely be online – there aren’t enough TV sets or people in Kansas to justify the expense or support it through subscriptions.

Above board money doesn't win college championships. Dirty money does.
You give Texas $300 MM they have to account for, and they’ll basically have no choice but to give a lot of it to academics.
I don’t see how this gives them that much more of a competitive advantage than they already had.

They can also use it to hire and retain coaches and build facilities
Texas coaches and coordinators are already among the highest paid and their facilities are the best in the league. They’ll only get better. Quality coaches recruit quality players and win games. Texas competes for and wins Big 12 titles in nearly all of its sports, not just football and men’s hoops.

I read in the ESPN article that they said they'll give academics $25 million over the next 5 years.
Which will roughly be $5 million out of the $15 million they’ll receive each year from the new channel. That’s still a HUGE number going back into the athletic department. And that’s on top of what they get from the current deals.
$10-$15 million more than the next highest earner in the conference will buy you newer and nicer things. Let’s just say recruiting at Texas will never ever ever ever be a problem with them.
