Around SBN: Where Do The Lakers Go From Here?

Locker room bulletin board material?

So is the NDSU coach just playing his nice-nice card to avoid angering the beast that is Northern Iowa (sigh - them again?) or is he kicking sand in his "longtime friend" Turner Gill's face?

Northern Iowa opens at home, but gets a little more than it bargained for after watching North Dakota State go to the University of Kansas and win 6-3 last Saturday.

"I think the environment that we´re going to play in Cedar Falls is going to be much more of a hostile environment than Memorial Stadium in Kansas. That was pretty docile," North Dakota State coach Craig Bohl said. "And the type of team that we´re going to be playing is going to be a much more physical, aggressive football team than KU. And quite frankly I think we´re going to be playing a better opponent. I know one school is in the Big 12 and the other one is in the Missouri Valley. I think that gives an indication on how we see Missouri Valley play and the respect we give Northern Iowa."

So, yeah, the truth hurts, and, yeah, it was pretty quiet in Memorial, but here is hoping that Ali Farokhmanesh figures out a way to don the pads and bust some Bison.

I'm actually all over this...

RCT vuvuzuelas at the NMSU game? Think they’d confiscate that?

I guess you really only need to smuggle like three in to make a difference. If we hand out 100 and manage a 5% success rate…it’ll be loud as hell.

Yep.

I’m sure the people behind me who get upset when I stand up will be perfectly fine with a 120 decibel buzz in their ears.

by knayte on Sep 9, 2010 10:50 AM CDT up reply actions

if they yell at you just blow harder and say you can't hear them

another alternative…my phone has a vuvuzuela app and it’s pretty damn loud. Get enough of those downloaded and we could make some noise.

Or fans could just cheer.

Last thing I want is to hear that damn buzz on US soil.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Coach Bohl -

Is more than welcome to bring his Bison back again next year if he feels that way.

There is no red like Chiefs red.

Glad he said it

This team needs fire under theys arse. I would have paid him to say it. Something, anything to get our team rolling.

Oh my other response is: you coach North Dakota State

His response:

“Yup. North Dakota State. The team that went into your house and kicked your ass.”

If by kicked our ass you mean put up

6 points and less then 200 total yards then yes. NDSU didn’t exactly dominate. If we played them 10 times I don’t see where they win any more than 1. I have a feeling that we’ll get a better picture of what kind of team we have in a couple days.

There is no red like Chiefs red.

GaTech brings the kind of offense

that can use a smashmouth defensive performance. Uni-dimensional, although effective in that dimension, and perhaps we’ll see some 8-9-10 in the box looks. I’d love to see the ’Hawks get some confidence early.

I guess there's gotta be a break in the monotony, but Jesus, when it rains how it pours.

Despite the score,

physically they owned us.

Labba, that’s 99% of the problem and reason most Jayhawks are up in arms.

I don't know whats worse about North Dakota

The fact that there is nothing there, the fact that its super cold or the fact that it is near Canada

This is true.

I’m perfectly content when the temps are in the teens but turn into Cranky McAsshole if it goes over 90. So so glad summer is nearly over.

I'm the exact opposite.

I’ll take 100 over 30 every day of the year.

Same here

It frickin’ snowed one day here in Austin and told the wife and kids to pack up – we’re moving to Belize. I was damn serious too.

Me too

I like it warm. When its cold and you feel needles hitting your face, gotta start your car up in the cold, etc. Screw that.

No way -

that’s the 2nd biggest reason I got the eff out of Florida. I hate being hot. I used to work at an ice rink just so I could be cold in the summer. In the winter my bedroom window is usually open. Hate the hot.

by Triston27 on Sep 9, 2010 9:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, but...

How many NDSU players have found the courage to open up to their head coach about their issues with their fathers? Huh? That’s what I thought!

maybe

they can do a free pizza giveaway every third down. That was the loudest the crowd ever got. You can hear a pin drop in that stadium most of the game. Absolutlety pathetic crowd. When the team is struggling like that maybe they can feed off of the noise. Set down the wine and cheese and quit taking things for granted.

by jb4 on Sep 9, 2010 3:41 PM CDT reply actions

Wine and cheese

Actually the few times the broadcast showed the crowd, most of the people were on their damn cell phones or texting.

We need to install cell phone jammers in all the sections of Memorial.

Is it just me

or is the meme that KU is going to come out PISSED because of what the NDSU coach said at least a little overdone? how about the distinct possibility that their confidence has been seriously shaken? what do these guys have to fall back on to give them any confidence at all? new unproven coach (who has already managed to make several highly questionable decisions), two mediocre QBs, and a big fat loss to a bad team?

someone gave me shit the other day for jumping all over this and being “shrill” or going overboard…has anyone listened to how much of a story this is on talk radio or read how big of a deal this is in the papers? i can’t stress this enough, this is a program-defining moment and the powers that be need to turn this around quick before we fall into the college football abyss.

BOOM YOSTED!

by Home Run Tony Cogan on Sep 9, 2010 5:19 PM CDT reply actions

Definitely overdone. If they can't get up for the head coach's first game, at home, and first game of the season- a coach from North Dakota is supposed to fire them up?

Agreed

I don’t see this as “motivational material” so much as “incredibly, incredibly embarrassing.” If he had said this stuff BEFORE the game it would be completely different. But when the man is just telling it like it is after he’s experienced it (and come out victorious), all you can really do is take your neutering like a man.

I will say that some of the throws Pick completed were way above mediocre, though. I don’t think there’s a QB in the Big Ten (usually my go-to for defining “mediocre”) that could have fit it through those windows.
