Charting the season's goals vs NDSU

Denverjhawk had some goals listed on his 2010 season's wish list. How did the team look in terms of living up to these against North Dakota State University?

1. Compete and Compete (on the road)

Incomplete, as it was a home game. But I take it that the team competed the whole way, seeing as they were behind. I suppose a point in favor would be if the squad stayed focused and didn't let the fact that they were getting flat out embarrassed affect them (hanging their heads, yelling at each other, etc.).

2. Attack

Sounds like the D attacked for the most part (excluding the 3-man rush tactic, failingly employed once). The O refused to challenge NDSU down the field.

3. Balance

Although the offense degenerated into a pass-first system in the second half, it appeared that the goal was to establish the run game. Though the ground effort was ineffective, at least they stuck with it longer than the previous "pull the plug as soon as one of the running plays gets stopped behind the line of scrimmage" administration would have.

4. Play with Passion

My guess is this was missing. Sure, it's hard to get up for a perceived weaker foe, but we haven't seen the fire-up-the-team players (or coaches) emerge yet.

5. Represent the University

Well, at least we didn't sacrifice integrity for a W. Doesn't mean integrity wasn't sacrificed, though. I'm willing to be patient on the "develop young men, not just football players" mantra. But while giving these guys life lessons, you do actually have to teach them to play football, too!
