Like I said..

I’m headed to a bar to ring in the season but some good games tonight…I might be around later depending on timing but hopefully we’ll have a few folks as excited for football as I am.

Southern Miss down 7-0 in the 1st quarter.

Just got in, so we’ll see how they look.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Football parlay me and my buddies threw down.

Iowa State over Northern Illinois (no spread)
Ohio State -28 over Marshall
South Carolina over Southern Miss (no spread)
USC and Hawaii OVER 52.5 points
Middle Tennessee State and Minnesota UNDER 49 points
Utah and Pitt UNDER whatever it is.

Let’s get it.

by rockchalk on Sep 2, 2010 7:20 PM CDT reply actions

Curious on under for Utah and Pitt now.

Yep.

It was 48.

So far, it’s looking pretty good.

Iowa State kicking some ass currently. Looking like we could have dropped the 4 points but whatevs. South Carolina is winning by even more. Ohio State is up 35, but it’s actually -29 so we can’t afford a marshall TD.

Middle/Minny and Utah/Pitt are close calls, but right now they look okay. I guess.

Really banking on Lane Kiffin’s assholeness to run up the score and win us some (fake, obviously haha) money.

With the XP, it’ll 17-3.

Pitt...

lined up for a FG to tie…knocks it through but Utah had called a last second TO.

Pitt lines up again, pulls it left…game over, but wait…Utah called another last second TO.

Pitt lines up again…knocks it through and on to OT we go.

Glad it went to OT. Was a great back and forth game. Utah looked a little better, and IMHO deserved the win at the end.

The commentators alluded to discipline. But those guys are douchebags. Can’t stand James or Palmer and their circle jerk was downright vomitous (yeah, that’s a word look it up).

Balls

If I can find a spot to grill out its happening. Unfortunately my tailgot spot by the stadium (friends’ house) is now no more since everyone graduated and moved.

We should just try to have an official RCT tailgate, find a space somewhere I’ll get a grill, and then best chicken sandwich ever.

RCT tailgate…my woman would love that. I’d never escape it. We need a grill, food, three thirty packs of beer, some cheap cigars and a ram. Lets do this

Yes South Carolina...

is a good team, but I will take away from that game that USM struggled pretty mightily to stop the run. S Carolina was not a good running team a year ago 91st in all of the NCAA and last in the SEC. So either USC improved tremendously in this area or Southern Miss has a weakness.

If it’s a weakness, it could be big in our game as we look toward a more balanced attack.

They didn't tackle well either

I mean South Carolinie’s QUARTERBACK ran over the defenders for a rushing score.

Only thing that scares me about that game is its on the road and a short week after Georgia Technical.

If that game is in Lawrence again I’m pretty confident we win. With it being in Hattisburg, I’m feeling more like 60/40 KU at this point

I also expect...

USM to be improved by then, but tonight gave me hope. I’m hopeful we can win a close one.

I was encouraged too.

USM had a LOT of difficulty with tall, physical receivers. (Scans KU roster…….yup). Check. Matthews, McDougald, Omigie, McGriff…tall and physical….well at least tall. Plus I think Beer could be effective against USM too.

They also had trouble accounting for the QB. Pick should run. And run a lot.

However……the USM OL looked pretty good to me against a really good Cock DL. They gave that Austin kid enough time to throw…..and their hurry up offense gave the Cock D some fits.

Not impressed

by Iowa State last night. The only reasons they had a “break through” last year were 1) huge turnover margin in their favor, and 2) relatively easy Big 12 South opponents. People who are picking them to finish above KU in the North this year might want to reconsider. It’s very difficult to have 2 seasons in a row with such a positive turnover ratio because that darn ball is an ellipse that bounces funny. Plus, ISU has murderers row the 2 weeks before they play KU. I think they travel to OU and UT.

by K.U. on Sep 3, 2010 6:46 AM CDT reply actions

I think you're alone.

The line on that game was only 3 points. They destroyed the line. Northern Illinois is a VERY strong program. And ISU did exactly what they needed to do….they took care of business and the outcome was never in doubt.

I think the reason ISU had a break through last year was because the team has bought into their new Coach’s philosophies. That and they had the best OL in the conference. And I believe the entire line returns this year.

They do have a much, much tougher schedule so the order of finish certainly could find them below KU. But after week 1 I WAS impressed with ISU. I honestly thought that game would come down to a last second field goal (as the line implied).

Maybe

but I still think you’re discounting that OL.

by Rivethead on Sep 3, 2010 9:38 AM CDT up reply actions

Uhhhhh, I'm not so sure

ISU’s offensive line was all that great last night. If you discount 1 run of 63 yards by Robinson, he ran for 34 yards in 18 attempts. That’s less than 2 ypc.

And the final score was a little misleading. Until 5 minutes remained, the score was only 17-10. ISU tacked on a TD and then a late FG

Northern Illinois drove the ball twice deep in ISU territory in the 3rd quarter only to have costly turnovers. You might say that’s evidence of ISU’s ability to turn teams over, but stats like turnovers have a way of evening out over time. I can’t see ISU being that lucky again this year.
