Huldon Tharp?
Is it safe to assume Tharp is who the linebacker injury tweet earlier this week was referring to? There have been plenty of rumors since Thursday that it was him, but today a rumor saying they have seen him on crutches at practice.
Owen, do you have any more info on this? How serious? I'm still holding out hope that maybe it isn't him.
This would be a big blow to the defense if you ask me. Who steps in for him? I think this team was thin to begin with and in order to have a shot at a bowl things needed to bounce the right way. With Spikes, Tharp(maybe), Edwards and Stephens already gone it's starting to pile on.
I'd still like to see 6 wins with this schedule, but it's becoming painfully clear that we're in a fragile position. Maybe 4-5 is what I should shoot for.

Yes, I know that. This wasn’t Fink though. Someone specifically said Tharp and I was trying to see if that is who Owen was talking about. If he was talking about Fink then I think that was something everyone knew already.
Not Fink.

My detective work
shows that Owen first tweeted at 9:30 am on 8/5 about the injury.
Also, LJW has a photo today of 3 healthy LB’s at the start of practice on 8/5, according to the caption. So this would have had to be during an early a.m. practice that day. Is Owen so well-connected that he knew about this injury just moments after it happened? Unfortunately, the answer is probably yes. I’m guessing Tharp went down with another knee injury that was immediately assumed to be ACL, due to his medical history. Hopefully it was just a sprain, but my gut tells me not to hold my breath.

I’m having a tough time finding the photo w/caption that you are referring to, but if it’s this one…that photo is from spring and paired w/the article. Practice was open on the 4th for the first 15 minutes or so, but on the 5th it was not open to the media.
As for my first tweet…that was actually on the evening of the 4th, which means if you have another photo actually taken on the 5th, my source was wrong. That said, they’ve been fairly reliable in the past and I did confirm it with another.
As to the nature of it, nothing official from KU at this point so I’ll tread lightly. I guess the optimist in me is hoping that the silence means that the severity was of the lesser variety so maybe there isn’t any extensive time to be missed.

Yeah, soooo...
I guess I’m a crappy detective. I misread “April 5” in the caption as “August 5” so my whole theory is shot. Resume sitting on hands hoping Tharp’s not out for the year.
It’s all good…you were in the ballpark.

Defense will be the worst in the Big 12
Our only good players are dropping like flies
Shit happens when you win championships
They were going to chew us up regardless of Tharp
He wasn’t a power LB anyway. He’s basically a skilled FS playing OLB. Speed, coverage, taking runners down by their ankles, etc are his strengths. The loss of him will cost KU much, much more against the spread offenses of the Big 12.
Oh, FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDGGGGGGGE
Only I didn’t say ‘fudge.’ I said THE word. The big one. The queen mother of dirty words. The ’f, dash, dash, dash, word.

If it were already christmas this season would be behind us.
Unfortunately the North Dakota game is going to be critical to establish some new players at critical positions.

When I saw this on here a few days ago I was sick to my stomach. I thought Tharp could really play, and he was only a freshman. It was obvious that he had a high football IQ. I remember he had several games of 10+ tackles and was always around the ball. This really hurts our defense against the run, because our d-line is already weak and now our linebacker corps is even weaker. We will see a lot of our safties playing close to the line this year. Oh well, someone else gets the chance to step up now.
UHMMM,UHMMM,CALM,CALM,
Sorry, but there hasn’t been a coin tossed, kick off, ball snapped or whistle blown. Things ain’t great, but those same things are ALL up in the air. Let’s at least see this team take the field one time before we set our doom’s day watches.
