Linebacker Takes Another Hit
Jacoby Thomas is no longer a Kansas Jayhawk. Thomas was dismissed from the team yesterday due to academic standing and his loss presents another blow to a Kansas linebacker corps already thin due to injury and other circumstances.
Again, Drew Dudley, Justin Springer and Steven Johnson appear to be the starters, but beyond that Kansas is starting to run thin on options. Jacoby was likely a situational player at best, but the loss still hurts at a position that can't afford many more.
The move appears to be permanent and was definitely a tough one to swallow.

How many players has Coach Gill kicked off the team so far?

Thomas, Wolfe, Wilson, Plato, Brooks, Greene and Stephens by my count. Anyone I’m missing.
He’s definitely setting an example and you can bet we have the full 25 scholarship limit to use this year at this point.

Stephens?
I thought he was medically unable to play football. He got kicked off?
build a damn football program, beat some ass, and get on tv more.
Edwards was medical...
Stephens was academics

Are you sure
all these players were dismissed by Coach Gill?
I thought Wolfe just left football to pursue other opportunities.

Exactly
Wolfe, Plato, and Wilson I heard just decided to call it quits. Stephens and Thomas were academic issues.
I guess I’ll just say there were reasons those first three made the “decision” they did.

Damn.

well I'm not trying to...
air anybody’s dirty laundry really…they made mistakes, college age mistakes and were held accountable. They may have ultimately made the decision to leave, but it wasn’t a difficult decision.

That's what I like to see
pretty soon Turner Gill will have to go to the flag football games to get some talent. love it or leave it Thomas, love it or leave it…
its going to be VERY inportant to sign some quality LBS
probably moreso than OL now. lets hope we can get a few of the following, Kieth Lewis, Keeon Virgil, Christian French, or Lukas Foreman
would love to get
Virgil and French, but sounds like virgil wants to stay home and french has quite a few options so who knows there
I think Virgil
is open to us, but if he gets an offer from a big boy our chances will go way down. and french hhas some really good offers but he is giving everybody a chance and told me he will take an official to KU. Once a kid gets on campus you never know.
Can Angus go both ways?
wake up the Bednarik echoes….
I guess there's gotta be a break in the monotony, but Jesus, when it rains how it pours.
we might not even need him on offense...
pretty sure Toben’s running with the 1’s again.

Unfortunately Quigley
Is a lighter version of Opurum. Both can lay the wood, both aren’t quick enough for 20+ carries. Opurum could have the best hands on the team, whereas Quigley had some fumbling issues in practice in past years.
Shit at this point why not
I mean the guy played LB last year and actually got some PT (and in my expert LB opinion, didn’t look that bad for limited exposure there).
At this point I’d see if he would at least be willing to take some reps…

Angus
didn’t look that good at LB last year either……………just sayin’.
build a damn football program, beat some ass, and get on tv more.
of course not
Hes played RB his whole life and randomly was moved there, then given PT in a big12 game.
He could have done a shit ton worse

Starting to look like we may have to use a walkon
Heres a guy I found online:
Andrew Clark – Played LB in high school
6’0, 210lbs. Runs about a 6.0 40
Can rep out bench at about 120lbs
I think we should give him a shot. He is a KU fanatic and wants to play for coach Gill.
Shit happens when you win championships
hell if hes an option I should walkon
played LB for a year at OU(Ottawa University) NAIA. 5’8 215 ran a 4.9 in HS benched 265. In all seriousness I very strongly considered walking on this year…..maybe I should have
What are you waiting for?
Get on wid it!

Is there a chance
they change defensive schemes? To what I am not sure. Maybe a 5 man front? Can Chris Harris play LB? This adds to the importance of the d-line play in big way.
Time to Unleash my Revolutionary New Defense:
The 5-0-6.
Linebackers are sooooo last century.

It's a simple philosophy, really:
There’s only one Rule: Whatever you do, don’t get blocked. Ever.

We should play total Football
Like the dutch do in soccer. Blur the lines between traditional positions, everyone just follows the ball. I’m serious this could work.

And how many championships have the Dutch won with their beautiful game?
Oh. That’s right.

They're still a good team
So you must not think the Indianapolis Colts’ offense was very good before Manning got his first super bowl, since they didn’t win the whole thing. Cuz winning a title is the only factor to decide if something is good or not.

As Mr. Jefferson would say, thats ignorant

Calvin Rubles
may have played cornerback his whole life, but if Isiah Barfield has locked down the corner opposite Chris Harris (Torbush says he would be surprised if Barfield doesn’t start), Rubles has the size and speed to move to an outside linebacker spot. He can’t be much lighter than Huldon Tharp was last year or James Holt was a couple years ago. They have him listed at 6’3" and 205.
