Jayhawks Pick Up A Wideout Commitment
UPDATE: Bring out the salt shaker, less than a week after decommitting from the Huskers, Jayhawkslant reporting Dylan Admire has committed to Kansas. Another flurry of activity on the recruiting front. Great to see a local prospect decide to stay home. For those counting, that's SEVEN offensive lineman. I'm thinking there might be a potential DT move for someone down the line, but depth is certainly a good thing.
The Jayhawkslant is reporting that JaCorey Shepard a 5'11' wideout from Mesquite Texas has switched his commitment from the Iowa Hawkeyes to the Kansas Jayhawks.
Wideout was a position that was a bit of a question mark with this class due to a pretty healthy haul in recent classes.
Turner Gill and the staff inherited plenty of big targets with names like Chris Omigie, Erick McGriff, Andrew Turzilli, Keeston Terry, Brian Maura and Ricki Herod. Now they add another one in a slightly different mold and a player that brings a little more in the way of speed to the table.
Shepard is the #10 receiving prospect in the state of Texas and listed early in the Texas top 100, both very good indicators of his ability.
The commitment brings the tally to 14 for the 2011 class. Kansas was originally believed to have 21-22 spots available, but that number could increase by signing day.

I'll echo that...
the Blue Springs pair are definitely taking things slow and aren’t going to push themselves into a timeline that they aren’t comfortable with and that’s a good thing.

maybe...
but I just don’t see any way he gets an offer. The numbers just aren’t right for KU to go after another at his position this year.

The weekend that Ford commited
there was discussion along those lines, b/c the 3 BS players visited as well. I believe Dester relayed a comment from Nubine that the coaches were only talking WR, and that was what he was interested in.
Either way
damn! Gills recruiting the oversized lettermans jacket right off mangino. Were in good hands, boys

coach gills goals were
recruit, beat mizzou, recruit, win the north.
e arterbery
Nice
We have a TON of young OLineman, another weapon for the offense (from what I’ve read, this WR seems pretty lethal). Offense will have a LOT of weapons now and into the future. Hopefully we have a QB who can get them the ball.
What I don’t get is why we can’t get a big time QB commit. Pick was a high 3 star, but still. Reesing put up monster numbers, and we’ve made it clear we are going to stock up on OLineman, WRs, RBs etc. Mizzou got a 5 star QB following the success Booger Daniel had, even Baylor has gotten a big time QB. I’m just surprised with our offense, the numbers, the young talent, etc we haven’t seen a young QB in the 4 star (minimum) quality say shit I wanna go to KU
Shit happens when you win championships
Cummings may be that
Coach Long thinks he is going to get a ton of high profile offers this year. Long thinks he is the second comming of Tommy Frasier
wow, really?
I thought he was one of our safety recruits in case starling and berglund didn’t pan out. At this point the pieces around him are falling in he’ll have some wiggle room

the staff...
is definitely very high on Cummings, he wasn’t a backup plan. That said, they’d probably still take a guy like Starling or Berglund if that opportunity had been there.

in fairness to Pick
he was prolly gonna be a 4 star before he got hurt. Remember that he was committed to Arkansas.
The Kansas City Royals; Successfully failing since 1986
I'll be very happy and supportive once they sign with KU
But the way many of these youngsters treat commitments is bothersome. Verbal agreements used to mean something.

Agree.
While getting these recruits is good news, none of this truly matters until they put pen to paper.
regardless...
what the staff has done so far is impressive. I’d bet almost anything that one of the 15 committed right now ends up elsewhere, but we’ve still never sat at 15 commitments at this point as far back as I can remember.

Did they used to mean something because they were made later in these kids HS careers?
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball...Rock Chalk Talk
The word "commitment"
Always used to mean something.
I almost asked
but if it was me and my scholly got pulled from under me because of it I would be a little sore on teh subject so i didnt ask
He claims to be 255
So the rumors are likely accurate.
So what are potential targets for us now? Mostly defensive or still a few spots on offense? D-line and TE?
Insanity is just a state of mind.
We still need a ton of help
on the front seven so I imagine that’s where well focus. It’s weird we can go out and get an entire offensive line including backups to commit but we can’t get any talent on the defensive side of the ball
by Walshdollar on Jul 31, 2010 7:17 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
It's a domino effect
With each OL verbal, the more pressure other OL recruits feel to commit. There’s no pressure for DL to choose KU soon. Also, it’s kind of difficult to convince good high school talent to join what was one of the worst defenses in the country last year.
