Way too Early Roundball Non-Con Predictions

The roster is set, the schedule is set and now we have a mere 5 months to go.  H/T to Bensa for throwing up the schedule in a fanshot yesterday and after having a day to digest, what does everyone think?

Arizona, UCLA, @Michigan, Memphis and @ Cal.  Not a bad little stretch?  There have been years where this would be an absolutely BRUTAL stretch.  This is Kansas, we have yet to see a serious dip, we do return a solid team and also add the #1 player in the class.

So prediction time.  Full non-con schedule after the jump.  What's the Jayhawks record after the non-con?  Toughest game?  Potential trap?  Who are you most excited about?  Throw it out there and who knows, maybe next year your predictions will make their way to the RCT time machine.

I'm disappointed about the Jimmy V

For some reason, I thought it was tourney-style and that we would play either Michigan State or Syracuse the next day. That’s rather disappointing. Memphis in NYC will still be a lot of fun (who else will be going?), but not as fun as it could have been.

And why are we playing Ohio twice?

by PDXJayhawk on May 25, 2010 7:26 AM CDT reply actions

I believe the second one was a misprint...

should be Miami of Ohio

53 Conference Championships!! and now 6 IN A ROW!!! Holy Hell...Good Luck with That!!

We'll lose the Memphis game

Not that they’re better than us. But we never win at MSG. I can’t remember the last time we played well there.

I'll be there.

I always go into the year thinking we will win every game

then reality hits and I am sure we will drop at least one. This non-conference schedule looks pretty easy though. I don’t see any ranked teams, although memphis and ua could be at some point. Toughest game is Michigan because other than Cal only true road game.

Too bad Dorian Green won’t be playing in Allen fieldhouse.

And most importantly…

We can’t let longwood catch us sleeping. They are stiff and love to penetrate.

It's not that I'm lazy; it's that I just don't care.

As I said on the fanshot,

I think we’ll go 14-1 in the non-con, and lose at Michigan, just like we lost at Tennessee this year. We’ll be a top-5 team by the start of the Big XII season. Marcus Morris will be averaging 17 points and 9 rebounds per game. Josh Selby will be averaging 15 points and 6 assists per game. We’ll sweep the Pac-10 swing. (More) people will start talking about this team being as good as/better than last year’s team, and we’ll start comparing ourselves to Duke and Michigan St. It’ll be great. I can’t wait.

When is Late Night?

and Bensa will write a 39-1 post

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.

It's already written.

I’m just sitting on it for a while.

Actually,

I’ll wait until I see the team play their exhibition games, which is when I wrote the original (ill-fated, as it turned out) 40-0 prediction fan post. I’ll probably wait to release my full prediction until after the 2nd exhibition game.

I saw that, but it's robbery.

$950/person and you’re staying at the Monte Carlo. The only good thing is that your ground transportation is already arranged. But that’s pretty easy to do yourself, and you can just take a limo and still save money. Also, that package doesn’t even include game tickets.

by Triston27 on May 25, 2010 10:50 AM CDT up reply actions

Dang I didn't know the specs

That does suck. Especially not including tickets to the game. You could go yourself and save a few hundred buck and probably stay at a nicer place

Shit happens when you win championships

by Andrew Clark on May 25, 2010 11:32 AM CDT up reply actions

You absolutely could

The package is a ripoff but most group travel arrangements are.

KU played UNLV in football in 2002 so we all flew out and got our own rooms and tickets. Only thing we didn’t have were tickets to the tailgate tent or a bus to the game. But we ended up saving a lot of money…only to lose it at the books. KU ended up covering the spread in the last minute, which was too bad for me.

NYC or Vegas?

I was all set to go up to NYC with a buddy for the Memphis game, but Thanksgiving in Vegas? Sign me the hell up.

by PDXJayhawk on May 25, 2010 11:11 AM CDT up reply actions

I think the NYC would be fun,

if there were a second day of games. I too thought there were 2 games for that but I guess the last time we played 2 games @ MSG was when we played UNC and Florida way back when.

by Triston27 on May 25, 2010 11:54 AM CDT up reply actions

the only problem with Vegas at Thanksgiving...

is the Border War is still going on in KC and no matter what’s happening with the season, or how dismal things look…I’ll be there if I can.

14-1

I always think that we will go undefeated in the non-con but it just never happens. That being said i think we will lose at Cal and possibly trip up in vegas or at MSG against Memphis. I cant wait for the Michigan game because i live in Michigan and they have no shot of beating us next year. This team was bad last year and lost Manny Harris the best player on their team.

by RockChalkTitleHawk on May 25, 2010 9:57 AM CDT reply actions

I don't see the team losing, and that's no so much about the strength of the squad

as it is about the lack of strength in the non-con schedule. The X-factor is how solid the defense is down low — it seems respectable with Mc/Mk, Throb, and Whithey, but only time will tell if they can fill Cole’s shoes.

by SagehenMacGyver47 on May 25, 2010 11:46 AM CDT reply actions

Isn't this the same non-con we played last year?

yeah, pretty much the same.
