Taylor, KU Bullpen Blank Missouri, 1-0

This is Important....

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas freshman Thomas Taylor pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, matching a career-high with eight strikeouts, while his battery mate James Stanfield produced the only run of the night in the second inning as Kansas shut out Missouri, 1-0 in front of 2,294 fans at Kauffman Stadium Wednesday night.

The Jayhawks win at the home of the Kansas City Royals for the third-straight season and improve to 24-14-1 on the season, while MU drops to 19-17.

Kansas scored in the top of the second on Stanfield's RBI single and made the run stand up.

Junior Jimmy Waters led off the inning with a base hit and moved to second on a sacrifice by Casey Lytle. That set up Stanfield's one-out hit, which marked the KU catcher's first RBI since March 27.

Taylor dominated the Tiger bats for the first 5 2/3 innings, holding MU to just two base hits, while recording eight strikeouts and no walks. Missouri's only threat came in the third inning when a Tony Thompson error put runners at the corners with two outs. However, Taylor got MU third baseman Andrew Thigpen to pop out to first base to end the threat.

The freshman sat down the first six men he faced, including five via strikeouts.

KU's bullpen tandem of Wally Marciel and Travis Blankenship held MU off the scoreboard over the final 3 1/3 innings. Blankenship recorded his first save in a Kansas uniform, pitching the final two innings - retiring all six men he faced.

Kansas junior Brian Heere paced the offensive attack with two hits. He was the only player on either team to record a multi-hit game.

Senior Robby Price snapped his 22-game hitting streak, going 0-for-3 in the game. Price's streak is the third-longest in school history.

The Jayhawks will return to action Friday when they host Texas Tech in the first of a three-game Big 12 series at Hoglund Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
