Recruiting Chatter: Bernard Thomas

Will Blue Springs cornerback recruit Bernard Thomas join his teammate Darrian Miller at Kanas? Time will tell.

Will Blue Springs cornerback recruit Bernard Thomas join his teammate Darrian Miller at Kanas? Time will tell.

Yesterday we talked with Darrian Miller, today we catch up with his teammate Bernard Thomas.  It's believed the two go hand in hand as it's been well documented that both would like to play together at the next level.  At the moment that would appear to put Kansas well in front, but it's important to keep things in perspective.

When push comes to shove, to each his own.  Just because Darrian is on board doesn't mean Kansas can rest easy on Bernard Thomas.  In all reality until the ink is dry in February Kansas will have to work hard to gain and keep both of these players in the fold.  Last night I had a chance to speak with Bernard about his thinking process, where he stands with Kansas and what Miller's commitment means if anything in terms of his recruitment.

Denver

Bernard, thanks for giving us some time tonight, obviously the question on many Jayhawk minds is...anything new on the recruiting front for you?

Bernard

"Should be getting two more offers pretty soon here from Tulsa and Illinois, and I also got invited to play in an all American game"

Denver

So with Darrian committing to Kansas does that change your plan at all or are you still planning on waiting things out for a while and seeing what comes your way?

Bernard

"Man I've been back and forth so much I really don't know right now. Honestly one day I could decide to just commit."

Denver

Do you still feel like you want to play with him at the next level?

Bernard

"Yeah for sure I'm just back and forth on whether I should commit now or see what else comes up."

Denver

I see, well I certainly understand wanting to look at your options and making sure you make the right decision, but let me ask you, if you are pretty certain you want to play with Darrian, and Darrian is going to be at Kansas. What's holding you back?

Don't get me wrong I agree with being certain and exploring your options, I'm just trying to get an idea where your coming from.

Bernard

"Well honestly my mom hasn't visited Kansas, seen the facilities or met the coaches so all that comes into play with my decision.  Also, I'm not going to commit or decommit just because Darrian does. I'm not that kind of person, it's my own decision."

Denver

Well that's good, I think it's important that you are both comfortable with your decision separately and obviously you want to cover your bases and make a decision when you're comfortable.  I'm sure the staff feels the same way.

Bernard

"Yeah and don't get me wrong I love KU. I talked with coach Mitchell and he said it's no pressure don't rush into things. make the decision when you think it's the right time."

Denver

Well that's good to hear. So who do you have offers from to date?

Bernard

"Arkansas and Kansas with Tulsa and Illinois on the way."

Denver

If you had to say a top school would you have one?

Bernard

"No not right now, but Kansas is up there."

Denver

And at this point, timeline wise it could be tomorrow or it could be then end of the season before you decide?"

Bernard

"Yes sir."

Denver

Fair enough.  Well thank for your time again and as always keep us posted on things.

More nice work, Denver.

I’m glad that he’s honest about things and letting everyone know his thought process through this. Also nice to see he’s getting his mother involved before finalizing any decision.

seems like these Blue Springs kids

all have good heads on their shoulders, maybe high schools in MO aren’t as bad as KC would have us believe.

His mother ...

… will love KU and the coaches.

Awesome Denver!

Sounds to me that he likes KU but he doesn’t want to be a flopper (commit now and then deciding to go elsewhere later). Which is a very good thing!

Thomas – Play in your All American game and tour some other facilities. Then bring your mom here to check out the place and if KU feels like the right place for you, jump on it my friend. Like Coach Mitchell said, “it’s no pressure don’t rush into things. make the decision when you think it’s the right time.”

Denver

Not that I want you to give away your secrets but I am impressed in how you get in contact with these recruits. But how do you get their contact information and set something up, telephone, chat, etc?

Awesome.

He only allowed 7 receptions all season? Jeez. I’m sure thats not against the Bud Wheeler type single wing offenses that we ran at Olathe South either.

Man crush. Sherron.

Seems like

Kids really enjoy the more laid-back and relaxed attitude coach Gill and Mitchell are taking towards recruiting. I’m sure the coaches are persistent and all, but try to make the kids feel like they want what is best for them. A fresh approach that I would guess would work well with 17-18 year old kids.

I'd agree...

I think it’s important for a kid to be comfortable with his decision and this staff is making it clear to them that that’s what they want as well. It’s almost the theory that if you don’t want to be a Jayhawk, we don’t want to pressure you into it. The opportunity is a good one and they’ll see it on that.

53 Conference Championships!! and now 6 IN A ROW!!! Holy Hell...Good Luck with That!!
