2009 Kansas Football Awards Announced

Saturday night the Kansas Jayhawk football team held it's annual football banquet handing out a few individual player honors and reflecting back on the season that was.  No doubt 2009 didn't end the way anyone anticipated or hoped, but Kansas still says goodbye to several great players that will go down in history as some of the best to put on a Kansas uniform.

It’s really great to know that he was so good on scout team. Even more depth at the historically most shallow position for the last 10 years or so. How beautiful it is.

I must admit

that even though we are in the midst of another title quest in basketball, I’m very excited for football season to get here.

Maybe it’s the new coaching staff. Maybe it’s the fresh start from all of the old players and having no expectation and a chance to really get into the current and new guys. Maybe it’s that I’m gonna be writing about the team on a regular basis. Maybe it’s that I will be doing “field work” going to recruit’s games. Maybe it’s because Denver is finally breaking down the “BASKETBALL SCHOOL” wall….

I read that Turner Gill wasn't at the banquet.

I realize he didn’t coach the team, but I still thought this was kind of odd.

Anybody else

notice that Dez Briscoe didn’t win a single award? I find that a bit odd, personally.

Well, when you think about it,

break down the list of awards. He isn’t eligible for 7 of the 15, due to either being for offensive limenen, defense, seniors or on the scout team.

For the rest, good luck outworking Jake Sharp in the weight room (anybody, that is), good luck being thought of as more of a leader than Kerry Meier, same with being more unselfish that Kerry (the guy moved from the premier football position to WR to help his team), he could have been considered for most courageous based on going across the middle through LB’s, he didn’t play enough on special teams to garner much consideration for the special teams award, offensive MVP could have been him but there was a guy named Todd, he was already damn good so most improved offensive player would be tough and nobody does more charitable and organizational work than Darrell Stuckey.

Pickin’s were slim for Dez, really.

I hear you

I just thought it was odd is all. I mean, he’s the best receiver this school has probably ever had, but I take your point.
