The Sleaziest Coach in a Sleazy Game
Article @ Slate about Calipari's questionable ethics, also indicting the whole of the NCAA for making money off collegiate players w/o 'payment.' Interesting....

I haven't had time to read this yet
but I’m amazed that I haven’t heard ONE person question him about anything involving the shit at Memphis. All the ass-kissing for him just kills me…you might have noticed a few jabs in my regional preview.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.
and after reading it, he stole my line!
He said:
And, if Kentucky wins this thing and you picked someone else in your pool, just be patient.
I said:
East Tennessee State Will Win If: they’re patient. It might take three years but history has shown us that they have a good shot at getting a win in the record books.

One of my more favorite lines I've read here.
Yours, that was. Well played.

so with that in mind...
has a 16 actually beaten a #1 already? Memphis did forfeit ‘08 wins correct? so who’s the #16 that can declare a victory?
53 Conference Championships!! and now 6 IN A ROW!!! Holy Hell...Good Luck with That!!
yes it's official!!!
Texas Arlington is the first #16 seed to have a victory over the #1 in the NCAA tourney. Someday ETSU will be #2…perhaps a post is in order.

Nope
No one wins those games, unfortunately. If they had beaten us in ‘07, there simply wouldn’t be a recognized men’s basketball champion by the NCAA for that year. It truly is the lamest punishment possible.
"Here are our top priorities: recruit, beat Missouri, recruit, win the North, recruit, win the Big 12, and in most cases if you win the Big 12 then you're playing for a National Championship. And then we're going to recruit."

I actually felt sorry for Kentucky the last few years.
Mainly because they are a blue-blood like KU is, and I know how shitty it would be if we ever experienced a run of bad luck like they did. I was even slightly happy for them when they hired Calipari because at least he would get them winning again. But that’s all changed after seeing Kentucky fans slobber all over him all year like he’s the effing messiah, all the while ignoring his shady history. I really hope UK loses early this year.
I check that site every day
even though I know they are gonna have 20 bullshit essays that are going to be contrarian just for the hell of it. It’s simultaneously thought-provoking and infuriating. For a while there was a twitter hashtag for Slate article proposals, like “What Twilight teaches us about global warming” or “Maybe it was Roman Polanski who was actually raped” or “Creed is the most underrated band ever”. Actually, that last one was a real article.
Yeah -
there’s a lot of thought provoking stuff there, and some of the best writers in the biz contribute to it.

Man -
the Kentucky apologists are laying it on pretty thick. It’s like theres an APB that goes out to every UcK fan whenever anyone dares mention them in a negative light.
I thought the best comment was from a Tennessee fan who liked UcK’s current love affair with Cal to the Vol’s infatuation with Lane Kiffin. He basically said, “we sold our sold so we could beat ’bama and Florida, I guess we know now how that turned out.”
I do agree however that the NCAA needs to either enforce standards equally across the board or adjust the standards all together.

I am glad he wrote this story.
Kentucky basketball and Calipari are well matched. They deserve each other. When it hits the fan, you will not see a single UK fan wondering if they did the right thing or not running Tubby out of town on a whim. This from a guy who lived in the Bluegrass for 13 years and spent a year in Lexington.
