KU vs Buffs: Plus/Minus
Luckily for me, last night's game was the first one I have missed from start to finish this season. After listening to a few comments on 810 this morning, glancing through Denver's Statistical Rearview, and filling in the plus/minus chart I've realized it had to be a maddening game to watch. The plus/minus is fairly ugly again, though Cole does dominate (+19). Brady Morningstar follows Cole with a +8, then it's all the way down to +3 for the next Jayhawk. Luckily, Colorado is bad and even worse without Burks. Marcus Relphorde did show up and play a pretty solid game, getting a +9. The nasty North Dakotan, Austin Dufault ends up at -2.

One of my favorite things about tracking the plus/minus is just admiring Aldrich's line every night. The guy is just an animal and possibly still underrated by everyone but a few of us and Bill Simmons. He scored 16 pts on eight field goal attempts. Marcus Morris has 15 pts and Sherron had 16 pts while taking 14 and 17 field goals each. Rebounds don't get away from him, he adds in another 14 last night. Throw in 5 blocks and many more altered shots (VoC #'s aren't published yet) and you have the best big man in the country. Challenge: Name one big man you would not trade for Cole Aldrich.
- For the not so fun comments, what the hell is going on with Xavier? Denver summed it all up pretty well in the comments of his statistical rearview. He's struggling shooting and struggles when trying to finish around the basket. On the positive side, he seems to know he is struggling. He only took 4 shots last night and seems to be rebounding and playing some defense still.
- Where is The Prophet? I'm really beginning to worry about EJ, is he in the doghouse or just not good enough right now? Conner Teahan made it in the game.
- Markieff- learn to make a free throw.
- Marcus- learn to dunk.

I'm disappointed that both EJ and Thomas Robinson...
aren’t being allowed to do a little more learning on the job this year. They both looked good early on, but at this point neither looks to have any confidence when they get in and almost look to be trying to hard.
and as far as Cole…the numbers look great, he was great most of the game…but damn it hurt having him so gassed near the end. When the monster from Minnesota starts laboring, he goes downhill quick.

is he still on the tail end of his Bronchitis?
They were talking about him puffing his inhaler a lot yesterday. I’m sure the altitude didn’t help.
Was it just me or did it look like a freaking sauna in there. Sweating like mofos.

probably more bodies in the gym than normal...
threw of the facilities guy and he didn’t set the ac low enough…who knows.
As far as bronchitis and Cole, I would think that should have passed but if he has asthma it could definitely played a role.

j/k. but if i were the guy in charge of the heat, with a good opponent coming to play at high altitude, i would keep the heat cranking, too

I agree, especially on T-Rob
He reminds me of Anthony Davis, or any of the KU CBs last year.
Instead of just playin’ they look like they’re out there thinking: “don’t make a mistake, don’t make a mistake, don’t make a mistake…..awww shit.”
And that can’t be any fun.
There simply is no substitute for experience.
agreed
and unless you are damn sure the 8-man is going to win a title on its own, then it’s no way to coach a b-ball team. though maybe they are, in which case BFS is still a genius in every regard.
not only is their mind focused on playing not to mess up, but with minutes in tiny spurts they don’t get into the flow of the game or get a chance to shrug off the mistake and make good plays to make up for it.

Bill Simmons?
When he has ever given props to Cole Aldrich? I was unaware that he was capable of doing anything college basketball related aside from slobbering over Kevin Durant and John Wall.

From his twitter site
- I’m just getting acclimated into college hoops. But still… no way Cole Aldrich should go lower than No. 5 in June’s draft. 6:53 PM Jan 25th from UberTwitter

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
The thing I like best about Aldrich
is that he’s pretty unflappable. He gets fouled pretty awfully away from the ball. I think what people who scream about Cole fouling don’t see is that their team makes about ten fouls against Cole for each one he makes. They want to shut him down by playing rough, then whine and cry when he’s allowed to play rough back.
Then in the K-State game he gets 4 fouls, and has to play clean despite continued fouls against him. He doesn’t get frustrated, he just does what he needs to do. He displayed a lot of that last night, too. I love how solid his game has been lately.
I just wish he’d learn some moves with the ball!
Like I said in the game post, lots of times it looks like Collins is the only one who believes he can score a bucket.
Collins is the only one who believes he can score a bucket
and I was glad to see that on the 3 Morningstar hit from the sideline against K-State, where the offense hadn’t been run yet, but his man was cheating off to trap—he let loose his attacking instincts. “If you’re going to cheat off me, then I’m going to make you pay for it.”

Brady is awesome
he’s one of my favorite players of the last 10 years cause of the way he plays. Shoots 3s, plays tough D, rarely makes a mistake.

Funny story about Cole and him being unflappable
One time in practice Withey fouled Cole hard. As Cole is walking off the court to get a drink he yells out in apparent anger, “You do that again and I’ll fuck you up!”
Hearing this Coach Self yells to Cole, “Cole, you ain’t fuckin’ anybody up.” The tone in which he said this made it obvious that he was scoffing at Cole and not angry with him. Coach knew that even though Cole was agitated it’s not in his nature to get confrontational. It was like he was saying to Cole, “You talk tough but we all know you’re just a big teddy bear.”
once again, Are we sure this isn't really Lew?
or am I just the only one who doesn’t know?

I'm almost convinced it is.
Would it really shock you? Where else is Lew going to go to chat with the best Jayhawk fans around?
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
theoretically
If you are the AD for a major university, you are going to be glad-handed and sucked up to by almost everyone you meet. Coaches and staff have their own biases as well. If you really want to hear from those who are passionate, informed and not sugar-coating anything, where else would you go?
That being said, if I were the AD, I sure as heck wouldn’t have a UID that includes a form of my own name.
And, finally, there is a way to find out: Someone could file a request under the Kansas Open Records Act (K.S.A. 45-215 et seq.) for Perkins’ office computer and blackberry for two things:
1. Has he ever visited RCT.
2. Did he visit RCT at times when KU_Lew has posted comments.
forgot to add...
Someone could file a request under the Kansas Open Records Act (K.S.A. 45-215 et seq.) for the browser history on Perkins’ office computer…
I'm not GOING TO
But, theoretically, someone could.
Lew, your secret is safe with me. Keep the insider info coming!
Sounds like a good project for TMZ
