Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Where are they Now: Brandon Rush

After being drafted in the first round by the trail blazers(was traded to the pacers soon after) Rush had been largely quiet. Well besides the failed drug tests(and addmitting to an illegal NBA practice).

Star-divide

Last year Rush averaged around 9 points per game.Unfortunately near the end of last year John Hollinger noted that "Brandon Rush will likely end this season as one of the worst NBA players to ever lead his team in minutes".  This year couldnt have started worse for Rush, after he returned from his suspension he loses his sarting job; but he has increased his average to 12.7ppg. While thats not a huge jump his December stats are far more impressive averaging 16 points per game, he also lead the team in scoring 3 games in a row.  If Rush continues to play like this he is sure to get his starting spot back. His best game this year came against the Raptors were he went 10-18 from the field and 6-8 from the 3pt line. If Rush can stay consistent you'll be hearing his name as much as you did when he was wearing crimson &blue.

Good stuff

An occasional “Jayhawks in the NBA” post would be cool. For instance, I know Chalmers is starting to get a lot more PT for the Heat (around the same time they went on a huge winning streak. Hmmmm….).

And Darnell Jackson got some rotation minutes early on in Sacramento

But has since given way to DeMarcus Cousins.

My mom went to the Pacers vs. Bobcats game

To see watch Shaun Livingston of the Bobcats play (we grew up in the same town and he played on my youth football team, my mom knows his adoptive mom, etc) and she kept sending me texts about how good Rush looked. Sounds like he is starting to live up to his potential

Livingston is such a sad story

I bet watching him in high school was amazing. He’s one of those guys where modern medicine just isn’t advanced enough to deal with the injury he suffered. Similar to Danny Manning- if modern ACL surgery techniques existed in the late 80s/early 90s, he could have had a hall of fame type career,

Yeah, although

looks like he doesn’t have many effects from the knee now, although it did cost him a huge chunk of his early prime. However, he is still a young player and could develop.

The injury was so bad though. He says to this day he has never seen video of it and never wants to, and I don’t blame him

I sort of feel bad for Pacer fans.

Ever since the brawl in Detroit, the franchise has been stuck in no-man’s land; not good enough to win anything, but not bad enough to get any good draft picks out of it.

Rush is most likely the best defender on the Pacers team as well.. he starts when the pacers play a team such as the lakers or the Heat so he can guard Kobe or DWade.

Along those lines, though

I’ve heard Xavier Henry’s becoming Memphis’s lock down defender. He’s taken OJ Mayo’s spot in their lineup.
