I thought it might be interesting to see what KU's first 5 opponents have fared, just to give some context to our season to date:
North Dakota State- 4-2 and 1-2 in the Missouri Valley...obviously a much-improved team over last year, but still a 1-AA team...nothing much else to be said.
Georgia Tech- 4-2 and 3-1 in the ACC, with road wins against North Carolina (3-2) and Wake Forest (2-4)...should be a solid bowl team, although may not be in the mix for the ACC championship.
Southern Miss- 4-2, winners of four in a row until a close loss at home to East Carolina (3-2 and 3-0 in conference)...another likely bowl team, albeit a lower-tier bowl.
New Mexico State- 0-4, and quite possibly the worst team in D-1...got absolutely annihilated 59-0 by Boise St. in it's last game.
Baylor- 4-2 and 1-1 in conference after losing a close road game to Texas Tech...may squeak out 6 wins with KSU and Colorado on deck, but the rest of their games look tough.
In short, not much all that surprising, but 3 bowl teams so far (not that that means too much in this day and age)...the results kind of indicate a team that is young at key positions and very unpredictable...also a team that struggles mightily against spread offenses.
KU's remaining opponents have a combined record of 28-7, including a grueling 3 week stretch against Nebraska (7th), OSU (22nd) and Mizzou (24th) to end the year...the next 4 games are winnable, however...with this team, I think the best we can hope for is 2-2.
