Kansas Jayhawk Gameday News and Notes 10.30.10
Kansas Football
Breakdown: Toben Opurum learning on the job at defensive end | The Newell Post | KUsports.com
Watching Toben makes me think he has a lot of potential. He's just like anyone else who is moved twice in a year, he's got a lot to learn. That said, there are a lot of solid backers and ends that come from a HS RB background. I hope it works.

Nobody's giving you a shot Quinn, make it happen.
Iowa State football: Osborne has comforting words for Kansas coach | The Des Moines Register
"I told Turner that football people understand what's going on." This from Tom Osborne. Sounds to me like he's taking a shot at Kansas and I'm not sure I like it.
Rhoads empathizes with Jayhawks' Gill
Coaches stick together. Even when one should know full well that he's done a better job at managing the first year stumbling blocks.

Some good league games today.
Big 12 takes offensive: Five of top 18 offenses in country play in league | KUsports.com
Hard to believe it but the Big 12 might be a better offensive league than it was a year ago.
Coach Talk
Henderson: Big issues — Who, when? - The Denver Post
Again, not necessarily Kansas related but I found it funny that they continue to shovel dirt on the grave before they even throw Hawkins in the hole. Thoughts on that list of candidates? Seems slightly optimistic to me and I just don't think the McCartney to Snyder comparison holds water.
When to fire a coach can be toughest decision - The Denver Post
I read this yesterday and thought it was an interesting take on the whole dead man walking argument with coaches. I noticed they missed Terry Allen in their list. Also, what's everyone's take on whether Gill has lost the team this year?
Big 12 Basketball
Colorado basketball loses center Harris-Tunks to torn ACL | The Denver Post — All Things Colorado Sports
Talked about this yesterday. CU has plenty of problems on the interior. This doesn't help. Good potential team, but his is a major blow.
Prep Ben McLemore visiting Mizzou | KUsports.com
McLemore still says he wants to sign early. Some thing this is a formality and that he'll be a Jayhawk soon.
Kansas HS Football
High school football player dies from injury suffered during game - News - FOX Sports on MSN
Here's the story on the Spring Hill player. Very sad.

re: osborne
i didn’t take it that way at all…i think he’s just saying that fans in general are impatient and don’t have the same perspective that those in the business do.
that being said, he’s biased and sticking up for his favorite pupil…i think fans could live with a poor record if the team showed some fight.
put it this way: terry allen’s 1-AA Southwest Missouri State bunch went on the road to Manhattan and lost by only 24 points, while we lost to the same team at home by 52 FUCKING POINTS…even if you accept the allegation that the talent on this team is below par, is anyone going to sit here and tell me that our talent is below the talent level of a below .500 1-AA team?
that is all effort and coaching, and both of those fall squarely on the shoulders of our coaching staff…this is fucking unacceptable to me and I’m sure many KU fans…i don’t have to see wins, but i do need to see progress…so far there have been neither and i’m sick and tired of it.

Obsourne is a liar. Period.
""It seems like there’s such an emphasis on immediate success. People have to remember that a lot of times, first years are tough." – Tom Osbourne.
That’s simply not true. I’ve already demonstrated with facts that 68% of the time first year coaches IMPROVE the record of the team.
build a damn football program, beat some ass, and get on tv more.
not to nitpick
but no you didn’t. 68% of the time last year they did.
