Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

So, what team rule did he break?

Was he on his cell phone while some chick was in his room?

Or did he leave his HCTG mandated teddy bear in the locker room?

I'm pretty sure it was this

Yelling God-based swears at a woman while standing outside his room after 10pm.

As I mentioned in a comment in the daily links thread, this suspension really worries me (although we don’t know what it was for). The strict women/curfew/swearing policies can work, but there has to be plenty of wiggle room for the players – you can’t bring the hammer down every time some little infraction occurs.

I’ve been more willing than most to give HCTG some slack during this debacle, but if he’s suspending players for minor infractions, that’s going to change.

The only people who really know where [the edge] is are the ones who have gone over it.

This is where I strongly disagree with the rules because of what I took from your comment.

Do all players get the wiggle room? Do you get some bear crawls (preferrably not on 120 degree turf) the first time? They’re rules that can’t be followed by all players at college.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

I know there's always the risk of favoritism for the better players

But what I’m talking about is more like letting things slide if they fall into some sort of “gray area”, such as being being late for the curfew by 5 minutes a couple times, or letting a swear or two slip here and there. Then again, maybe I’m wrong and football has to be precise about all things at all times.

better yet,

you could put in realistic rules that you never let slide. But whatever you decide this gosh durn crap is getting old. Sands “offense” is a joke, not meriting a 1 game suspension, and I bet this is too.

I disagree on Sands

What he did was minor, but it did lead to him getting arrested, which is embarassing for the program. All he needed to do to avoid it was show up in court. Sands was not going to be the difference in the game this week, so why not seize the opportunity to send a message? This tells the players “get your shit together, and keep your name off the arrest blotter.” We don’t need negative press on AND off the field.

Has anyone heard anything yet on what DJ did?

Another commenter mentioned possibly talking back to a coach

with poor choice of words.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

I heard . . .

something about him not buying into what the coaching staff was trying to do. It makes sense—I could see him getting pretty frustrated with this whole deal.

I tell you one thing...

whether he buys in or not…Kansas needs guys like him because he doesn’t have an ounce of quit in him. He’s a fighter out there and if you could put 11 guys on the field with his fight, we’d have a different story on our hands this year.

Ignoring the reason,

this is still very bad for the Jayhawks this week.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
