Jayhawk Football Recruiting Question

PrintThere is a ton of news in the world of KU Athletics this week. I do not mean to pull any attention from the 'Sunflower Showdown' or 'Basketball's Beginning,' but the optimist in me is dying for any news regarding football recruiting.
I don't have as much time as I used to that I can dedicate to poring over the interwebs to find any semblance of information about whether we're pulling ahead of other schools for a given recruit or we've fallen to the wayside for another.
So, with that said. Does anyone have any news about anything? I know we're in the middle of football season for everyone (including high school), so this may be a backburner issue at the moment. Still, I'll take any 'rumors' I can get.
Sorry if this seems facetious, but the journalist in my past wants to know the information... and the future physician in me wants to know that we can fix our current football situation.

Pretty quiet right now...I'll throw a few rumors out there though.
It sounds like we are very much the team to beat for Maurice Couch. This is HUGE as he has offers from USC, Tennessee, South Carolina and A&M among others. Game changer for us at DT and a 3 year player as a juco.
Darrian Miller is claiming Iowa the heavy favorite at this point, and Bernard Thomas claiming K-State. There’s a rumor that Kansas has cooled on Thomas but more and more it’s looking like these two won’t be playing together and it will be elsewhere.
Two defensive end recruits have visits scheduled. Robert Mincey and Horace Arkadie.
rumblings of a JUCO defensive end but nothing solid.
All in all it sounds like almost all of the remaining scholarships will be targeting defensive players. Depth up front, linebackers etc.
I will say that without recruiting an impact linebacker everyone feels like the group will take a step forward next year with Darius Willis, Toben Opurum, Huldon Tharp and Steven Johnson making up an improved rotation. Still for the longterm I think we’d all like to see some additions in this area.
Other than that, staff was out in force last week during the bye week trying to make inroads…it’s a big time focus for this group and they are bringing in kids for officials during season which isn’t something Mangino did. Continued improvement on the field only helps the cause so I’m hoping we see some of that at the very least.

With the comments about him being dominant last summer
I don’t see how we can be indifferent to him leaving. KC might technically be outside the state, but it still hurts to lose a local guy, and Thomas too.
eh...
I’ve seen and heard things to indicate that he likes Iowa a lot.

well they just haven't offered yet...
he’s always been pretty anti Mizzou, but they haven’t offered so I’m not sure if that might change if they did.

It would indeed be encouraging to get a recruit like Couch
Is there a record for lack of sacks in a season? 5 games with none is ridiculous. Is this the impetus for playing 8 to 10 yds off the WR’s – always? Don’t you at least need to challenge the opponent once in a while?
of course now that I post this about Couch...
scout is reporting that he committed to Tennessee tonight.

he said he is down to
south carolina and tennessee but leaning towards UT. well there goes our biggest recruit. sure glad we decide to play terrible after he says that we are his clear leader.

Is there
some reason the staff is not getting JUCO kids? I know it is no way to build a program but we need help like yesterday. We are slow.

I don’t see the need for Jucos at this point. Gill has been given the opportunity to develop kids who fit into his model. No reason to squander that on some high-risk Jucos who might get us from 2-10 to 4-8.

wondering what they are up to?
Word is that several central Texas kids that were interested in Kansas are getting the brush off. Includes the kids of alumni and former KU players. I would think if you had a senior that is 6’4", 230 lbs. that can play DE/LB and his Dad played that position for KU why wouldn’t you talk to him? Not like we have depth at the position. I also know a 6’7" 235 lbs. junior DE that has had his HS coach trying to get him added to the KU junior list. Kid has already received packages from 20 schools including TCU, TT and OK State. The kid wants to hear from KU. I don’t get it.
I'm amazed there is a kid anywhere that wants to hear from KU right now.
