Kansas Basketball Quotes
Well, it's getting to be my time of the year again. Yep, I'm one of those. I follow football and support the team, but my first love at Kansas is basketball.
I'm sure most of you have seen some of these elsewhere, but I'm going to steal Owen's football press conference post and apply it to Kansas basketball media day. I just found more than a few of these brought a smile to my face and have me pretty fired up for the season.
Coach Self
"Speed. With the way this team can defend and do different things with interchangeable parts. From a raw speed standpoint, we're obviously going to miss Sherron (Collins), X (Xavier Henry) and Cole (Aldrich). This is going to be a team that can pressure more and certainly play faster offensively."
"Mario really hasn’t shown what he can do because his first year he only played half the season and then sat last year, and it was good for him to sit because it guarantees graduation, but it also gives him a chance to impact this team in ways that he couldn’t do last year when he wasn’t quite as healthy. He’s a 100% now and he‘s a bad matchup 4-man or he’s a big 3-man. He can certainly get the ball in the basket and we saw a glimpse of that his first year. He’s a guy that can put up numbers regardless of how many minutes he plays."
"He’s(Markieff) become more of a post-player. He’s got good touch on the ball from range and he understands that he can score on the block. He’s got some things that are hard to guard from a move and size standpoint. I think he finally understands how to use his body in relationship to what he’s got. He’s going to shoot more threes this year, but he can’t fall in love with it. He’s a very capable three-point shooter."
Josh Selby
"The 2008 National Championship. That's when I knew it was best for me to be here. The way they played together, they always stayed by each other's side when they were down. Family's a big thing with me. What they have here is great family tradition."
"I want this to be a family thing and a team thing where everybody is the face of the program, not just one or two players. We need the whole team to play, not just one or two players."
Those stood out to me. I'd love to hear more if anyone has snippets. There's a lot out there today and it all sounds very positive.

I'm interested to see how fast this team plays
Nobody expects (I suspect) a Roy Williams-like tempo, but with the depth and athleticism (not to mention the interchangeability of the various parts of this team), we should be able to run most teams out of the gym. But, this stuff takes time to develop, so it will be interesting to see how that aspect pans out.
When is Late Night?
This is very true and it's why I'm not sold that we'll see much of a difference this year.

Bill Self likes his rotation of guys. He’s never platooned in the past and I don’t see it now. We might see a lot of guys early but by conference, I expect we’ll see the same 8 guys for 40 minutes. The other side of that is HCBS learned from not using the edge in athleticism and isn’t about to let that happen again.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball...Rock Chalk Talk
Anyone see the quote by Johnson...
where he basically says that if the Morris twins didn’t think you were working as hard as they were they’d ignore you. I haven’t seen the exact quote, but I think it was Johnson.
If true, that’s hilarious. Those two really seemed to have matured a great deal in the last two years.
