Not a great start when looking at the stats for this week.  After the jump, drive statistics are compared between the two teams.

Star-divide

These are the same numbers that I put in the fanshot Sunday night.  Overall, the numbers are very similar for the two teams.  The only real edge goes to the Wildcats in explosive drives (drives that average more than 10 yards per play) and 5 of those drives came against Missouri State.

The Jayhawk defense fares quite a bit better than the Wildcat defense using these numbers.  The Wildcats force fewer 3 and Outs, allow more explosive drives, more methodical drives, and have allowed opponents to reach the end zone more often than the Jayhawks.  These numbers do need to taken with a grain of salt because Nebraska did some damage to the Wildcats defense.  However, their numbers weren't great before last Thursday.  Game by game numbers are below so you can take a look and draw your own conclusions.

I'm amazed...

that somewhere in this conference there is an offense struggling worse than ours.

That team does have 7 more touchdowns than the Jayhawks though.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Their run defense is really bad

Sure, they played Nebraska, but we played Georgia Tech. I guess the counterpoint would be their pass defense, both in efficiency and yardage, looks very good. I’m anticipating quite a workload for Sims Thursday.

might be a little throwback grind it out from both teams.

Why wouldn't

Grandpa Snyder try to exploit our shitty spread D with a heavy passing attack?

I know he really doesn’t have a QB that’s built or proven to do that. But then again, against our D do you really need one?

build a damn football program, beat some ass, and get on tv more.

Because knowing KState's luck against us (in Lawrence at least)

Coffman throws two pick sixs and KU rolls.

Shit happens when you win championships

Why Coffman?

Why not roll out the better thrower (although less experienced) kid (Lamur?).

You don’t have to ask him to throw downfield far….just nickel and dime us to death. Baylor proved we cannot even come close to stopping that.

Because...

he probably doesn’t think we can stop Daniel Thomas for four quarters. Snyder most likely and rightfully so believes he can line up and play his game against us. They have a good o-line and a big physical back. If he gets that going he can pass when he wants to and in those instances they are actually fairly efficient. It’s not that the K-State passing game is horribly ineffective…statistically it’s not bad from an efficiency standpoint, it’s just not what they set out to do.

I'd guess we will see a lot of rollouts and play action passes

Hopefully our safeties stay home and don’t boight

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me

The ONLY thing KU has done right all season is stop one of the most potent running attacks in college football.

Why would Grandpa play right into the only thing we’ve done worth a shit?

Our safeties are built to stop the run. Our LBs are built to stop the run. Our DL can’t get any pass rush whatsoever.

Why in the hell would anyone gameplan to RUN against us? Sling it and win. You don’t even have to throw downfield. We’ll give you the 5 yard outs all day.

by Rivethead on Oct 12, 2010 10:40 AM CDT up reply actions

Because Coffman can't beat us downfield.

That allows the defense to take away those short routes, something they couldn’t do against Baylor.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

I have yet to see our D take away the short routes.

or the medium or long routes for that matter.

by Rivethead on Oct 12, 2010 10:51 AM CDT up reply actions

It’s the one thing they do VERY well on offense. I’d guess he’ll go that route to start until Kansas can stop it. I’m not saying he’s not going to be prepared to go to a passing attack, I just think he’d rather get things going in the area they feel most comfortable against what many are considering the worst team in the league.

KSU will try to run the ball no matter what. For example last year Missouri’s pass defense was horrible but their run D was decent and Snyder continually tried to just pound the ball. He is trying to keep their QB from losing the game for them

Yep. Probably going to be a terrible game for television if you don't have a special interest in either team.

Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.

Yeah, even without the Nebraska game

they’re allowing 212 yards per game on the ground. Kansas needs to find a way to abuse that.
