Does KU still deserve their #1 ranking?

Whew.  Sherron was right.  That was like a tournament game.  How many games have we seen where a powerhouse program undone by a Mid-Major that plays good defense and rains 3's in the NCAA tourney?  But those games are usually on a neutral court and usually the underdogs play with a sense of live or die.  How did this (almost) happen on our floor?

So this of course begs the question, are we still number 1?  I know polls don' t really matter and that it provides nothing but good fodder for the press and the fans.  (which is basically what this piece is) I think if I'm a Kentucky or Texas fan right now, I'm lobbying my local writers pretty hard right now to usurp Kansas in the rankings.

I'm mean really, who have we beaten?

1) Memphis - a headless team on a neutral floor.  And we were lucky to get out of that one.

2) UCLA - not the same team we saw the rest of the 2000's.

3) Cal - This was a good win, but it was another inferior team that upon which we were unable to slam the door.

4) Temple - Our best win.  But Temple came out of nowhere to beat up an over-hyped Villanova squad to propel themselves into the rankings.  Judging by what I saw, Temple would maybe be 7th in the Big XII

When examined together it looks like a decent resume but most of us have been slightly uneasy about the play of our 'hawks.  With Texas and Kentucky knocking off top 10 teams and both teams seemingly hitting on all cylinders it's not a tough sell to propel either team to the top spot.

This is me just playing devil's advocate by the way.  Just trying to stir the pot.
