Temple’s style limits possessions and virtually eliminates any easy baskets, which is exactly the kind of opponent Self has worried about. He ranted after the Belmont game this week, calling his team "soft" and saying it was best suited for "a pretty" game.
Self joked about his words on Thursday, and pointed out that there probably weren’t any coaches completely happy with their team’s toughness. But still, to drive the point home, he’s brought treadmills to practice and ordered them to be set at a steep incline and high speed — waiting for someone in need of punishment.

I do believe the treadmill treatment comes courtesy the '07-'08 team
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
I'm pretty sure it was around before that year...
but like everything else, that’s the year it became completely justified.

I've heard Frank Martin talk about using treadmills,
says it’s the one sure fire way to make sure a guy doesn’t dog it.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
I am certainly
worried about tonights game. I’d really like to see Sherron bust out and score like 25.

I'm hoping this isn't shades of 2004
Number one team, kind of underperformed all year long, goes on the road to Philly….uh oh.
I think this game will really come down to our bigs. If we can really control the boards and get the high-low offense working for some easy looks for the Morri and good Cole plays I think we will handle business.
I thought about this earlier.
And this year’s Temple team is better than that year’s Villanova I think.
But I don’t think it’s the same kind of thing. At least I sincerely hope not.
I love this strategy, but not this week.
We are gonna need all the legs we have today. Probably not the best time to break out the treadmills. But, hey, my name’s not FHOFNCOYBAMFHCBS.
lol can't have a CKC without KC - Nicholai Khabibulin (LN21)
I really doubt that we'll be running up and down the court all day
Given that we’re playing a team that doesn’t allow more than 55 points and game and is one of the best in the country in not turning the ball over.
Either way, apparently the threat was enough and the players are saying the treadmills didn’t get used because they understood what was needed. Aldrich has said that the last few days of practice have been some of the best all year, so I’m optimistic about a good performance today.

Yeah, KC, that shouldn't be an issue at all.
Temple’s adjusted tempo is 63.5 possessions per game (the national average is 68.6), ranking them 324th in the country. In other words, only 23 teams play at a slower pace.
No, we won’t be in an up-and-down game. We just have to be super efficient and we can’t waste possessions. That’ll be the key to success.
