OT: Your (Hopefully) Four-Day Filler
So, obviously, with all the site activity being through the roof lately, everybody here is ready for the season to start in, oh... 4 days, 1 hour and 28 minutes (not that I'm counting), and any new post having gone up in the last couple days has been attacked and commented to death within a couple hours. I feel like a kid just a couple days before Christmas, when I know that my mom got me that really awesome, new Buzz Lightyear action figure, a brand new set of Pogs and all the Hot Wheels cars I could ever play with!! It's almost here, and I'm pretty sure that I knew what it's gonna be like, but I just can't have it yet.
Well, in the meantime, we can each help other survive until Saturday with a little random, off-topic discussion. I've seen some guys at Royals Review do this before and it was a lively thread, so I figure we've got plenty of people here that like to hear themselves talk (or at least I do), so we should be able to have some fun with it.
Also, for all the new people that have joined since Esteban's "OT: Who are you?" thread, have a little look-see at that and read up on the long-tenured RCT-ers here, and then share a bit about yourself. Just the basic, same stuff that we all covered in that thread. Here at RCT, we are a really fun, out-there and close-knit group; which is something you don't find everyday in the blogosphere, so feel free to make yourself at home. This site really starts to feel more like a "place" to me at times, rather than just a website. It's like hanging out with a bunch of [for the most past - coughWardencough] cool people.
Then, after that, everybody answer the following questions to the best of your knowledge/opinion:
- What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn't get?
- For the guys that attended KU, what's your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play.
- Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
- On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season? Kudos to the person with the best/ funniest analogy.
- If you could punch one person in ALL of sports - college, professional - ANYTHING - who would it be?
- Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
- There's one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who's yours? (Yes, we would all kindly appreciate a link :D)
- Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
OK, there you have it. This should be fun. Now, GO!!!!!!!
By the way, no copying answers, except on multiple answer questions, but I get Calipari for #5!!

OK, here's mine:
1. What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get?
I shared mine above. I was, like, 5 or 6, so give me a break. Toy Story was the first movie I ever saw in theaters.
2. For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play.
I went to the KU-NU game two years ago. We won 76-39. Needless to say, it was a fun game to watch, and I got SHWASTED afterwards.
3. Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
In no particular order: Avenged Sevenfold, Silversun Pickups, The Killers, Michael Jackson (hate him for what he did – OK, but his music was undeniable) and Tom Petty.
4. On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season? Kudos to the person with the best/ funniest analogy.
I gave mine with the Pac-Life Whales line. Top that.
5. If you could punch one person in ALL of sports – college, proffesional – ANYTHING – who would it be?
This is hard, because there are so many. I’d like to choose all misery and UK fans, but that would be cheating. So, I’ll settle for a solid right hook to the side of the throat of John Calipari.
6. Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
Major League series (counts as one), Friday Night Lights, Gridiron Gang (such an underrated movie), Remember The Titans and Coach Carter. All obviously pretty new movies, because they are from my time period.
7. There’s one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who’s yours? (Yes, we would all kindly appreciate a link :D)
I like the innocent looking, dark haired, smart and sexy look, so naturally, Rachel Bilson would be my choice here. Pretty self-explanatory really.
8. Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
Yes, the man did his time, paid his debt to society, was punished enough in the nearly $100-million that he lost, had his name drug through the mud and, IMO, learned something from it. At least, I would say, “how could you not?”

1. What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get? I used to get a Nerf football every year, mostly because previous Nerf’s skins wore off from use. Didn’t matter – Nerf, Nerf Turbo, etc. It was always all good.
2. For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play. 2005, beating Nebraska 40-15. After years of watching those turds (actually, most Nebraska fans I know are great people, plus when I have gone there for a football or basketball game, the fans have been great) invade Memorial and turn the bowl red, it was sweet watching them leave (and early!). Cornish’s run was sweet, but Kevin Kane’s INT return was pure delirium. Posts came down, which I generally think is dumb, but being able to get a shot of me and my mates on the field with the scoreboard in the background was timeless.
3. Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
R.E.M., Ben Folds, Wilco, Chris Isaak, any of the Marsalis franchise.
4. On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season? Kudos to the person with the best/ funniest analogy. To paraphrase Daniel Stern, "If excitement were people, I’d be CHINA!!!!!"
5. If you could punch one person in ALL of sports – college, professional – ANYTHING – who would it be? For a long time, I would have said Andre Agassi. But then Andre dropped the country club smarminess that made me think of kids I grew up with, shaved that ridiculous highlight job, shelved his lazy approach to his athletic gifts, and focused on being the best he could be. He was so focused when he won his first U.S. Open in ’94, and unseeded at that. No celebrating, no cockiness, just ace-winner- ace- fuck you- next shot- give me anything-I can top it.
So I’ll go with Quin Snyder. Another smarmy, shaggy, lazy asshat. Plus, I’m pretty sure he’d just cry. Or ask me for some blow.
6. Top 5 sports movies of all-time. Slap Shot, Bull Durham, The Natural, the original Longest Yard, and all-time favorite Hoosiers.
7. There’s one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who’s yours? (Yes, we would all kindly appreciate a link :D
As a general rule, I don’t gravitate towards Indian women. But Padma Lakshmi is wicked hot, and cultured. And single…..so you’re telling me there’s a chance……
8. Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
I’m pretty sure there are some other undesirables in the NFL today. Vick’s crimes, while grotesque and incomprehensible, ain’t what locked him up for 18+ months – it was mostly the lying to the feds, obstruction, and RICO violations. Long story short – much ado about Mikey is just a tempest in a teapot. People cheer for thugs in other sports every friggin’ day, so I can’t reconcile the hubbub over Vick. I say yes.

Very nice, Tom.
“If excitement were people, I’d be CHINA!!!!” – Very, very nice.
just ace-winner- ace- fuck you- next shot- give me anything-I can top it.
OMG, this was SOOO FUNNY!!!!
Quin Snyder is a GREAT choice!! “Or ask me for some blow.” – HAHAHAHA.
And, thank you for making me aware of Padma Lakshmi. I’ve never been one to go for Indian women, either, but she is hot.
Thank you for playing. Also, feel free to share in regards to the “Who are you?” thread.

1. What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get?
Crap……SNES
2. For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play.
Standing by hott girls at every game
3. Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
Zeppelin, Metallica, Disturbed, Van Halen, 2Pac
4. On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season? Kudos to the person with the best/ funniest analogy.
1….lol
5. If you could punch one person in ALL of sports – college, professional – ANYTHING – who would it be?

6. Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
Not a huge fan….for some reason I’m having a block

MEGAN FUCKING FOX
8. Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
Yeah but I would have liked to see him go to the Browns…LOL
1. What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get? Pocahontas. I fucking love that movie. And Super Mario 64, my favorite game of all-time (I’m also the proud owner of one of the fastest 120 star speed clears in that game’s recorded history).
2. For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play. =(
3. Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time. Pulled straight from my Facebook: 10.) Explosions In The Sky
9.) Savage Garden
8.) Breaking Benjamin
7.) Enya
6.) Lifehouse
5.) Simon & Garfunkel
4.) The Eagles
3.) Elton John
2.) AnBerlin
1.) AC/DC
4. On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season? Kudos to the person with the best/ funniest analogy. I’m Pac-Life Whales about Todd Reesing graduating and never playing against CU again. After that, let’s say a 5 if you beat Nebraska, a 1 if you don’t.
5. If you could punch one person in ALL of sports – college, professional – ANYTHING – who would it be? Peter King and his merry band of Pro Football Hall of Fame voting ass clowns. I hate all of them until the day they figure it out and get it right.
6. Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
1. Field of Dreams 2. The Natural 3. Major League movies 4. Friday Night Lights the TV Show >>>>>>> FNL movie, but I still love the movie 5. Hoosiers, but only sometimes. Least Favorite Sports Movie : Two way tie between Million Dollar Baby, because WTF CLINT EASTWOOD DOESN’T CRY, and the Air Bud movies, reasons self-explanatory.
7. There’s one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who’s yours? (Yes, we would all kindly appreciate a link :D) Minka Kelly’s character on “Friday Night Lights”, Erica Durance’s character on “Smallville”, and Isla Fisher’s character from “Definitely, Maybe”. If you’re asking for just one woman, I don’t have an answer. Nobody stands alone.
8. Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL? I have absolutely no qualms about him returning to the NFL if he’s reformed. 18 months in jail couldn’t have been fun and
I’m willing to give the guy a chance to succeed with the rest of his life.
I thought you knew that algebra was all razzamatazz. A Globetrotter always saves the good algebra for the final minutes.
Were you here for the FNL/Explosions in the Sky discussion?
It’s in the Entourage or FOTC thread — it’s great. You should check in.
I read through some of it
I was pretty late to that party, though. I could have told you guys right away who did the theme song. The soundtrack from the FNL movie is incredible, too. I listen to it daily, usually while playing shooters. Love to kill people to instrumentals q_q

I’m a little worried about you right now…did I really see Savage Garden listed….?

lol -
you don’t want to know.
Michelle Malkin, Sarah Palin, Anne Coulter, Michelle Bachman, Elizabeth Hasslebeck...where do all these moderately attractive and immensely silly women come from?
not me -
that’s the first thing I saw. I let out a quiet WTF? Until I read the rest of his post…
Michelle Malkin, Sarah Palin, Anne Coulter, Michelle Bachman, Elizabeth Hasslebeck...where do all these moderately attractive and immensely silly women come from?
I could explain it
but it wouldn’t have nearly the impact on you guys that it did me. I suppose if you really wanted to know, though…

Well,
most of your list is pretty chill. So it fits. I won’t force you to explain but by all means feel free…
Michelle Malkin, Sarah Palin, Anne Coulter, Michelle Bachman, Elizabeth Hasslebeck...where do all these moderately attractive and immensely silly women come from?
I didn't even read the list
it is pretty chill, despite me listening to punk music 90% of the time.
Savage Garden is mostly because my dad loved “Affirmation”. When I was growing up, my dad and I were about as close as father-son gets without being creepy and/weird. We talked sports daily, he played Mario Kart with me on the N64, and he was generally just the coolest guy I’ve ever met. When we went to Hawaii on vacation (Insert rich white kid scoffs here), he and I decided to take our rented convertible Camaro out for a drive at about 6 AM when the sun was just popping up. We drive the entire big island listening to the Affirmation album. When he died when I was 16, it’s the memory of the two of us cruising around Hawaii, top down and blasting “Affirmation” that still resonates the closest with me. Truth be told, I haven’t listened to Savage Garden in years, but they have a permanent place on that list as long as I have memories of that morning.
I thought you knew that algebra was all razzamatazz. A Globetrotter always saves the good algebra for the final minutes.
damn dude...
now I feel bad, Savage Garden away my man…all you want.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
Don't feel bad, lol.
If someone had put “Britney Spears” on the list, I would have immediately mocked them. It’s just the way of the internet, d00d.

Here we go...
1. What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get?
Ummm, that’s a toughie. I guess my Nintendo 64, because that was just “aces”. You have no idea how many hours I’ve spent playing Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 64. But, they are two of the greatest video games of all time, so I don’t really care. Other “aces” N64 games — Donkey Kong 64, Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball (the greatest baseball game of all time — RBI Baseball 2 is a close second) and that one basketball game with Kobe on the cover. I loved that game.
2. For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play
I will cheat, and say the Orange Bowl. That was just an awesome experience. Especially after, walking around Miami. After the game, me and my dad went to this sweet Miami pizza place — some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. Topped off one of the better days of my life. Aqib Talib’s pick 6 is my favorite play in Kansas history.
3. Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
Can I name 40? I go through spurts where I love certain bands, so depending on when you ask me, it could be an entirely different set of 5 bands. Which kind of goes against the true meaning of the question, but hey — that’s me. With that said, I’ll try and answer with the 5 that are most consistently among my favorites.
Something Corporate
Our Lady Peace
Counting Crows
Dave Matthews Band
Jack Johnson
And, because I’m the boss, and I can cheat, here are some other ones that I absolutely love, listed in alphabetic order:
The Airborne Toxic Event
Cobra Starship
The Cab
Cold War Kids
Dear and the Headlights
Forever the Sickest Kids
The Fray
Jack’s Mannequin
Jimmy Eat World
The Killers
Paramore
Passion Pit
Relient K
The Starting Line
Switchfoot
Thousand Foot Krutch
We the Kings
Yellowcard
I like music, sorry.
4. On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season? Kudos to the person with the best/ funniest analogy.
What’s the analogy to, again? As excited as I’d be if this was a reality. I have to win over KC with that one, right?
5. If you could punch one person in ALL of sports – college, professional – ANYTHING – who would it be?
Easy. Sooo easy. Jonathan Papelbon. Honestly, it’s incredibly irrational how much I hate him. It’s a combination of the media thinking he’s good, him taking half-an-hour between every pitch, his stupid bleeping face every time he looks in with his lips in a circle, his stupid celebrations and, most importantly, his general doucheyness. He is the definition of anti-aces.
6. Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
We’ll make this dramatic and go in reverse order:
5) Rookie of the Year — Used to be my favorite movie when I was like 9, so it’s up there for those reasons. I’ve watched this movie probably like 12,000 times.
4) Hoosiers — I re-watched it the other week, and it was better than I remembered. IT doesn’t have the sweet, sentimental moments that Rudy had, but when one of my Top 5 favorite scenes of all time in any movie is when he measures the hoop height and lane length. You can’t NOT love that.
3) Major League Series — Ohmygoodness. One of my little brothers, who is now 15, hates sports. Especially baseball. I made him watch it, and he loved the movie. That shows you how good of a movie it is. So funny.
2) Remember the Titans — Soo damn awesome. For multiple reasons. Not the least of which is Petey, or Turk from Scrubs. Oh, do I love that actor. Also, Denzel bleeping Washington. One of the better movies of my lifetime.
1) Rudy — Sorry. I know a lot of people hate it. I’m impartial to the Irish, so it isn’t like this is biased, either. But I can’t help it — I cry EVERY. SINGLE. TIME I watch this movie. It’s impossible not to. EVERY! TIME!
Honorable Mention: Happy Gilmore, Talladega Nights (both are funny, but they probably don’t really count), Coach Carter, Hoop Dreams (I’ve never seen the entire movie, so I didn’t want to put it in the Top 5, but the hour-or-so I watched was just as incredible as everyone says), Friday Night Lights (like everyone else, though, the TV show is waaaaaaay better).
Non-Honorable Mention: Bull Durham. One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. I hated it.
7. There’s one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who’s yours? (Yes, we would all kindly appreciate a link :D)
Wow. What a surprise, KC. Anyways, I guess I’ll go outside the box and select Taylor Swift. I don’t like people who look too model-y, if that makes sense. A close second is Jackie from That 70’s Show. I can’t remember her name right now, but I love her.
8. Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
I could go on a REALLY long rant about this, so I’ll just leave it with a short FUCK YES! He beat some dogs. Yeah, it’s gruesome, and yeah, it’s stupid, and yeah, it’s not a good thing. But Leonard Little killed another human being, and went to jail for like 30 days. And was suspended for just 8 games. I mean, come on. I realize Goodell is sending a message, which is good. But he better send a much bigger one to Donte Stallworth, who killed a man in Miami in April or March or something. Now, I don’t think he should be permanently banned, or anything — but the fact that Vick got nearly 2 years in prison is a joke.
OK, I’m done.
most people don't mention
that Leonard Little got another DUI-style citation after he was involved in the accident the first time and got slapped with the involuntary manslaughter charge. Though he later beat the DUI charge, that idiot should have been exiled to the Aleutians.
What’s the analogy to, again? As excited as I’d be if this was a reality. I have to win over KC with that one, right?
No, dude… It’s MY idea. I win all.

I've done enough of these of FB to be proficient... let's see what comes out.
1) What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get?
Voltron Castle – had that thing circled in the toy catalogue for a month before Christmas.
2) For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment?
Orange Bowl. That one was pretty easy. I was cold, sick, and wet but easily one of my most memorable evenings.
3) Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
Metallica
Boston
Prince
Herbie Hancock
KANSAS!
4) On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season?
Yes.
5) If you could punch one person in ALL of sports – college, professional – ANYTHING – who would it be?
George Steinbrenner. Repeatedly. (John Elway is a close second)
6) Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
Bull Durham
Field of Dreams
The Natural
Miracle
Caddyshack
7) There’s one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who’s yours?
At the moment, I have a pretty serious thing for Anne Hathaway. I know, not the Megan Fox some of us may have been interested in but there’s something about a classic beauty that’s tough to beat. Am I getting old?
8) Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
Absolutely. They guy’s paid his debt. He’s doing outreach and education. Being a bleeding heart lib, I’m always willing to give people second chances…

Well, I think I’m a little like Labba here but Castle Grayskull was a biggie for me as a kid….combine that with the motorized spider that skeletor rode in and I was a happy camper.
2) For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment?
Honestly there weren’t a whole lot of good memories while I was at KU so I’d have to say the Missouri v KU game last year. Edge of my seat the whole game, stuck in a swarm of Missouri fans who kept throwing their damn yellow streamers all over me when they scored. When Kerry Meier caught that last touchdown, I let out one giant YES!!!! the rest of the section was silent. The guy behind me just looked at me and said “Well, Shit”….they knew they lost.
On a side note Kendrick Harpers Brother almost kicked some dudes ass in my section because he threw nachos down from the upper deck and it landed on him and Harpers Orange Bowl Jersey.
3) Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
Rolling Stones
U2
Counting Crows
Widespread Panic
Steve Earle
4) On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season?
There has not been a suitable unit of measure invented yet
5) If you could punch one person in ALL of sports – college, professional – ANYTHING – who would it be?
Anyone who said Quin Snyder is unfortunately wrong…he was the greatest thing to happen to Missouri basketball and I wish he were still there.
I guess if I had to pick just one, it might as well be Jim Boeheim…don’t really hate anyone too badly but losing the NC to him still pisses me off. He’s a damn whiner.
6) Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
Rocky
Field of Dreams
Rudy
Hoosiers
Sandlot
7) There’s one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who’s yours?
This is cheesy as hell but since you didn’t specify how they stand above all the rest I think this one is open to interpretation. Right now, I’ve got to say my new daughter, she’s so damn funny and makes me smile constantly. Well almost…
8) Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
Yes and it doesn’t really matter what anyone thinks right now because the media and America love a comeback story…if he’s successful there will be only a few dog lovers out there that remain staunchly anti Vick.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
1. What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get?
Gameboy Color. Best thing ever.
2. For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play.
N/A
3. Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
The Killers, Foo Fighters, Johnny Cash, Social Distortion, Green Day.
4. On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season? Kudos to the person with the best/ funniest analogy.
Whales.
5. If you could punch one person in ALL of sports – college, professional – ANYTHING – who would it be? Hmm, too many to choose from. Bruce Bochy and Casey Blake.
6. Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
Don’t watch too many, Hoosiers, Miracle, Rocky, Major League, Slapshot.
7. There’s one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who’s yours? (Yes, we would all kindly appreciate a link :D)
Can’t really link to her. Someone special though :)
8. Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
Sure, why not. Can Brett Favre be banned after his next “retirement”?
Insanity is just a state of mind.
Can’t really link to her. Someone special though :)
Good answer, but i won’t even go there. She must be reading over your shoulder as you type.

1. What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get?
Proving what a spoiled brat I was, I don’t really remember a lot of the toys I got specifically at Christmas, with one exception — The Technodrome from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That shit was awesome with the sides swinging open, secret doors and the fucking eye on top that could roll off and potentially crush one of said Ninja Turtles. What’s more, I got it back when my mother still had patience and she spent all the night before putting all the stickers on.
2. For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play.
Easy. The 2004 KU-KSU game at Memorial Stadium. We beat the Wildcats 31-28. It was the first true sign that the program was turning around and it was fun to see all the crying and angry KSU fans after the game.
3. Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
Just five? Shit. I’ll give you the ones I’ve been listening to the most recently…
-Jimmy Eat World
-Ratatat
-Barenaked Ladies
-Snow Patrol
-Green Day
Also, I’ll give a shoutout for The Sailor Sequence. A college friend is in the band, they just released their first album on iTunes and I’ve kind of become addicted to it.
4. On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season? Kudos to the person with the best/ funniest analogy.
I’m not quite sure how the scale is supposed to work, but let me put my excitement this way: Saturday’s game, and this season in general, are going to rock the casbah sideways on a pogo stick.
5. If you could punch one person in ALL of sports – college, professional – ANYTHING – who would it be?
Calipari would be at the top of my list of asshats needing a severe attitude and facial adjustment. The rest would have to be groups of people, such as Missouri fans, North Carolina fans and those fucking Nebraskans that always took my parking spot in front of the scholarship hall when the Huskers played at Memorial.
6. Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
I’ve never been that big of a sports movie guy, but I’d have to say Friday Night Lights, Rudy, Angels In The Outfield, Varsity Blues and Big Green.
7. There’s one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who’s yours? (Yes, we would all kindly appreciate a link :D)
Julia Stiles. Attractive, talented (an actress AND a soccer player? Hells yes.) and smart (she went to Columbia). I’m gonna be lazy and not post a link.
8. Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
Yes, because in six months, no one is going to even care anymore.
Yeah technodrome!
I put that on my list too! I was afraid no one would no about it.
technodrome!
That is f’n awesome. I also had the Turtle mobile, the turtles layer, the turtle blimp and just about every character imaginable….TMNT, my youth in a nutshell.

Me too!
I had the layer as well. and tons of guys. You could tell I would always lean toward sports though…I use to play full 11 on 11 football with my turtles. It was a slow progressing game, to say the least.
I also had the lair and the van...
…and I also had duplicates of all four turtles because of a miscommunication on one of my birthdays. I didn’t mind, it made for some interesting story lines when I was playing with them.
by tequilaprophet on Sep 5, 2009 10:05 AM CDT up reply actions
I had
the van, technodrome, something that oozed people with some sticky ooze slime crap, and a bathtub boat a turtle could ride in. Those were the days.
For a psych class a few years ago I wrote a quick paper on how what ninja turtle kids pick as a favorite is an indicator of what kind of person they would be later in life.
Michalangelo – the stoner, party kid.
Donatello – Nerd

1. What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get?
I got a SEGA Genesis with NBA Jam and NHL 94. It was (and is) AWESOME.
2. For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play.
That would have to be the Orange Bowl. I was not at the game, but I watched it on TV, very nervously, just wanting KU to prove it belonged there. They did, and still do.
3. Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
The Cranberries
Roxette (look it up)
Johnny Cash
Ace of Base (laugh it up, fuzzballs)
Regina Spektor

6. Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
1. The Natural-I cry at least 4 times in that movie, more when I’m watching it with my almost-2-year-old son.
2. Miracle-Great story made even greater because it all actually happened.
3. Happy Gilmore-The price is wrong, bitch
4. 61*-not widely seen, but a really good movie
5. Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others)-This is not a sports movie, not at all, but it’s the best movie I’ve seen in the last 10 years. If you have not seen it, you must watch it, even though it’s subtitled and in German.
7. There’s one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who’s yours? (Yes, we would all kindly appreciate a link :D)
A little off the beaten path (so to speakl), but I’ve always had a spot for Kate Winslet, and always will.
8. Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
I generally say that I respect those with whom I differ on this or that subject, but I simply cannot understand the furor over Vick’s return to the NFL. He was convicted. He was sentenced. He sat in a crappy Leavenworth, KS cell for 2 years (or whatever it was). Frankly, I don’t give a crap if he’s not really sorry and is just saying what he thinks he needs to say to get back in. He paid his time. He knows dog-fighting is illegal (if not immoral, inhumane, etc.). He will not do it again (while he’s in the league). End of story. If we weren’t as a society going to let the man live after he paid his debt to society, why didn’t we just give him the death penalty? Give me a break. Let the man make a living, and let his fans enjoy him while they still can.

I was totally going to say Kate Winslet too. She’s been on my “to do” list for years. I’m just a sucker for those types…
Michelle Malkin, Sarah Palin, Anne Coulter, Michelle Bachman, Elizabeth Hasslebeck...where do all these moderately attractive and immensely silly women come from?
I have a list
of women for whom I’d leave my wife. Kate Winslet is the list.
I dig your Anne Hathaway, though. She’s a friggin’ triple threat. Great looks, great acting chops, and a great freakin’ voice to boot!
Rec’d for the Roxette call out alone, they were incredible…when I was little I always wondered if the Roxette girl and the russian chick from Rocky were one and the same.
I’d rec this again if I could because you called out possibly my two favorite games for the Sega Genesis as well…the other two I’d throw in the mix…General Chaos and the Madden where when an injury occured the ambulance would drive onto the field running over anyone in it’s path to pick up the injured player before again running over any one in it’s path while exiting the field…were those guys not injured now too? and if so shouldn’t there be more ambuli? that’s right, ambuli…plural for ambulance.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
As unbelievable as it may seem...
I never had a Madden game for the Genesis. I got NFL Football ’94 with Joe Montana (of the Chiefs at that point, I think) on the cover, narrated by Pat Summerall. I rocked that game with the Cowboys. It was sick.
The only game where I've ever...
been able to accomplish 1000 yards rushing in a single game…5 minute quarters…Barry Sanders
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
My go-to play
was a little post route by Jay Novacek (remember him?) that, against almost any defense went for a touchdown every time. That, and Emmitt Smith running the wrong way on a simple off-tackle play. It was ridiculous.
exactly how I did the 1000 yards in a single game...
I-Form Tight, Toss right…reverse the field and Barry was gone. Also dominated with Randall Cunningham, he was ridiculous in that game…I wonder what those guys would have done if Vick was around back then.

Seeing KU win the Orange Bowl in person in Miami, followed by the Border War last year, a much needed boost to end a disappointing year.

No way I can narrow this to 5 so I’ll be more specefic.
Hendrix – My biggest guitar influence.
Led Zeppelin – Best range of material in music, hard and heavy, soft, folk, has it all.
Smashing Pumpkins – Most of my favorite music is from the 90s, the did 90s style alt rock the best.
Green Day – not into them much these days but the reason I started playing guitar, one song off Dookie at a time when I was young.
Ryan Adams – If you aren’t familiar with his stuff go buy gold to start and listen. Great stuff. Go listen to Gold. Now.

I have seen a lot of the ones above, and I wouldn’t mind a swing at most of them. But one I haven’t seen: Pete Carroll. He is so freaking smug, but I just don’t think his job is that hard! I thought you knew that algebra was all razzamatazz. A Globetrotter always saves the good algebra for the final minutes.
Here I go
What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get?
I would probably say my basketball goal I got as a youth. I always had to go around the neighborhood to play and then my parents got me one for our driveway and it was great. Basketball was pretty much life for me from like 10-18 so that was a good one.
For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play.
It’s close between 2004 KSU and 2005 Neb but KSU was first and was so much more dramatic, I’ll let the LJWorlds recap the next day do the talking for me:
The Jayhawks lost another lead in the third quarter Saturday against the rival Kansas State Wildcats, but came back with 14 straight points in a 31-28 victory – KU’s first against KSU in 11 years.
KU defensive end Jermial Ashley kept the deficit at four points by blocking a 49-yard field-goal attempt by Joe Rheem, giving KU a first down at their own 32-yard line. Five plays later, Swanson made up for the earlier fumble with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Mark Simmons.
The junior wide receiver’s one-handed grab gave KU a 24-21 lead with five and a half minutes left in the game.
Jon Cornish and Brandon McAnderson dropped KSU star running back Darren Sproles deep in KSU territory on the ensuing kickoff. Meier, unable to communicate with his teammates so close to the loud and obnoxious KU student section, had to call KSU’s final two timeouts
This was when the student section was on the South Side of the stadium where the current visiting section is. The classic “ohhh ohhh, oh, ohhhh ohhh oh oh oh oh” chant started this game (if you’ve been to games in the last 4-5 years you know what I’m talking about.) So f’n rowdy this game, I don’t know if I remember a crazier student section in my long career as a student at games but this one was nuts. So f’n loud.
Two plays and 54 seconds later, Randle broke four tackles on a spectacular 43-yard scoring run, giving KU a 10-point lead with just more than three minutes left in the game.
One of the craziest, most spectacular plays I’ve witnessed at Memorial Stadium. I think people died on the bottom of piles in the student section.
Finally, a pay I’ll never forget from that game:
The Jayhawks extended their lead to 11 points, 17-6, with a 27-yard field goal by Johnny Beck and a 24-yard hook and lateral from Barmann to Brandon Rideau to Randle.
That play was so sweet, after it when we went up 13 everyone in the stadium knew we were going to end the streak.
Obviously, that game sticks with me pretty well.

Incubus, 311, Sparta, Kings of Leon, Bone Thugs & Harmony (had to include someone from my early music days of 90’s rap)

I agree the first was the best,
but I also like the second and thirds. I love the part in the third one where the twin 2B and SS keep fighting each other on the field going for grounders, so the coach ties them to stakes in practice that stop them JUST short of being able to reach other.
lol can't have a CKC without KC - Nicholai Khabibulin (LN21)
I would argue that the 2nd one is good too
My reasoning especially has to do with which one I saw first. I saw Major League 2 as a kid first. I’ve noticed this quite a bit with movies when I talk to people. If they’ve seen a sequel to a movie before they saw the first one, many times they end up liking the 2nd one better when most people like the original. I saw Major League 2 first and I actually like that one better.

It works the same with music
Typically whichever version of a song you end up hearing first is the one that you like more, especially if you’ve heard it several times.
I thought you knew that algebra was all razzamatazz. A Globetrotter always saves the good algebra for the final minutes.
Yep.
There’s this one song (it’s a pop-punky song, so I won’t bore you with the details) that had a remix. I listened to the remix like 15 times, then the original finally came up one day when I was shuffling songs randomly. I hated it. It was a good song, but I was so used to the remix, it felt like something was missing.
I just felt like affirming you. Carry on.
My favorite thing about those movies
For fun, the next time you watch it, focus on all the other players that basically have no lines and are just in the background. The most ridiculous collection of mullets and hilariously awkward interactions you’ll ever see.

Boom. Roasted.
1. What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get?
Hmmmm… Probably my Ninja Turtles sewer base and the Turtle Blimp. Man, that X-Mas was the jam.
2. For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play.
I’m gonna have to go with the hilarious year where we tore down the goal posts not once, not twice, but three times in a single season! I remember throwing them in the lake, then following a parade of people taking the other one all the way to Mass Street. Fantastic.
3. Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
God this is hard for me. So much greatness left out, but here goes:
5. Social Distortion
4. Johnny Cash
3. Cake
2. Weezer (original lineup)
1. The Clash
4. On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season? Kudos to the person with the best/ funniest analogy.
All I can say is that my pants feel funny.
5. If you could punch one person in ALL of sports – college, professional – ANYTHING – who would it be?
This is tough. There’s a lot of overrated d-bags in college hoops from the past that I’d like to punch, but they all seem to get what’s coming to them when the fail in the NBA. So I’m gonna have to go with the Drama Queen in Wranglers, “Brent” Favre. Way to ruin that guy’s career the other night in a meaningless scrimmage, dickhole. Oh, but he’s just having fun out there! Because everyone else in the NFL hates the sport, except for Brett Favre. Brett Favre. Brett Favre. Sorry, almost turned into an episode of Sportscenter there.
6. Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
1. Hoop Dreams (reality always better than fiction)
2. Hoosiers
3. Gladiator (ancient sport technicality FTW!)
4. Friday Night Lights
5. Talladega Nights
7. There’s one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who’s yours? (Yes, we would all kindly appreciate a link :D)
I’ve always been a Kate Beckinsale guy. The accent just puts her over the top. Link is kinda NSFW, btw.
8. Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
Hell yes. The double standard we have for dogs in this country is strange to me. Have you ever watched a rodeo in person? Those animals are not having a good time. Throw in bear traps, shooting wolves from helicopters, etc., and it’s clear that we’re pretty sh*tty to various species and most people seem cool with that. But somehow dogs are different. I’m not a PETA guy at all- I just think the double standard is weird. Just my opinion.

Top 5 rant ever on this site. Well played.
Nice link, btw. WOWZA’S!!!
lol can't have a CKC without KC - Nicholai Khabibulin (LN21)
Good pick of Gladiator;
That was the ultimate sport at the time.

Save the Weirdest for last.
Favorite Christmas present.
A pony. That seems sort of fey, but since we didn’t have much of a fence I spent the next couple of years chasing the damn thing around rural Johnson county hoping to corral it before the Sheriff’s Patrol came banging on the door. That builds character.
Favorite KU football moment?
Watching some totally unknown option QB from Smith Center Kansas break the KU single game rushing record while dodging the frat punk passing out behind me because he started drinking grain alcohol in the first quarter.
Top 5 bands:
Led Zeppelin
Springsteen
Neil Young
Clash
Weezer
Drive By Truckers(It’s been a long time since I took math)
How excited are you for the upcoming season?
As excited as the right-wing when Monica’s stained dress showed up, and as excited as the left when drunken Cheney shot his buddy while hunting.
Who would you most like to punch?
I’m old. One good shot to Norm Stewart’s dishonest face
and I’d sit him the f**k down.
Favorite sports movies?
Caddyshack
Slapshot
Junior Bonner(Rodeo count?)
The Longest Yard(Original version obviously)
White Men Can’t Jump
I’ll go the route of Denver, and say my 16 year old daughter, who besides being beautiful, is smart enough(top psat score at ONW in her class) that her old man won’t have to spring for most of her college tuition.
Should Dogkiller Vick be reinstated?
I’ll go against the grain and say no. He had everything in the world and pissed it off. I’ll give him a second chance and let him work construction for the rest of his life and let him be. But to let him back in the NFL and get the big dollars again I think is a mistake. He’ll just use the money to hurt something or someone again.
A pony…like one of those mini horse things, sweet!!
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
A shetland pony. Cute little devil.
It bit, kicked, and was great at bucking the rider off. Character building gift.

Olathe Northwest...cool.
I knew a couple of kids who just graduated from there.
Where I grew up, I was districted to go to Olathe East, but I guess in Olathe you can pick-and-choose, or whatever, and some of my friends from elementary school picked NW.
I couldn’t disagree more on the Vick thing, but I’ll live. Probably.
I really don't care about Vick
much one way or the other. There’s plenty of people that will give him a second chance and a job without the NFL turning him back into a star. He had everything, he didn’t care about it much, he crapped it away. There’s an old saying, “Don’t throw good money after bad”. Why prop up someone who didn’t really care in the first place? It’s not a big deal to me, because I’m not a big NFL fan, but it seems rather pointless. Just let the guy fade away.

Well, I can respect that
if you’re like an NFL owner and don’t want to touch him. And the majority of NFL teams agreed with you, there, I think.
Basically, I’m just strongly opposed to anyone thinking the NFL should have been active in preventing him from re-entering the league. Let it be up to the teams. That’s my take on the whole thing.
That's a good way to look at it.
Though, it is a joint enterprise and the Eagles taking Vick on drags everyone else down. Since the league values money more than anything, I’m a bit surprised the commissioner seems to be smoothing his return so far. Meh, whatever. I guess we’re ok with this dubious KC character cranking out posts as long as they get a lot of reaction, so I better not get too high and mighty. :)

I'm glad you're basically ambivalent RE: Vick
because I ranted pretty strongly on that above. I can understand not letting a child molester be an elementary teacher after he gets out of prison, but fighting dogs doesn’t have anything to do with football. Once his time has been served, he should have every right to earn the best living he can, provided he stays away from animals.
But that’s just me.
My point is more that I don't understand
why the NFL would want Vick back? What does he do for the League? It’s a business built on public relations and taxpayer money(almost all stadiums are heavily taxpayer subsidized) and taking this guy back seems a disastrous move. ESPN may love it, but it’s a lot of money to regularly attend NFL games and I don’t see the draw of Vick. He’s quite free as long as he follows the conditions of his probation to get any job someone wishes to hire him for, but to to return him to a glitzy lifestyle which he callously chucked away seems a poor financial move by the NFL. The next team to seek taxpayer dollars seems to be giving their opponents a big club over their heads.

I think your basic point is more than valid
but I don’t see the taxpayer angle at all. Stadiums, as I understand the subject, bring in significant tax revenue to the area in which they are located, so it’s not like the state or local governments don’t get a fair shake in the whole thing. It is a huge business with lots of different levels, but I think one guy isn’t going to make or break that. The NFL knows that, and their calculated guess is that, over time, people will forget or stop caring about Michael Vick the felon and, if he’s no good, they’ll forget about Michael Vick, QB as well. I don’t think it’s in the NFL’s best interest, though, on a business level, to start unilaterally excising players from the league, especially for non-football related offenses. Pete Rose isn’t in the HOF because he broke one of the seminal rule of baseball. Michael Vick didn’t do anything to the game or the league that made people question the integrity of the game, and, at the end of the day, I think that’s why he’ll be reinstated and have a much talked about, but in the end, nondescript career in the NFL.
I may be remembering wrong, but I think cities get screwed over pretty regularly here.
I’ll look later tonight to see if I can find a couple of the things I’ve read.
stadiums, as I understand the subject, bring in significant tax revenue to the area in which they are located
He can get 4, NOT 5.
I went to De Soto...
…the original one, mind you, not that pansy ass red-headed stepchild out in Mill Valley.
We got a new football coach my senior year and while we continued to suck for a little while (we went winless my final year), I’ve heard we’ve become something decent. He came from an Olathe school, maybe north?

this seems to have slipped by everyone else, but
White Men Can’t Jump is a great call on sports movies imo. Its been a long time since I’ve seen that movie.
Ok, since y'all are sitting around the fire singin' Kum-by-ya and telling your innermost thoughts....
I’ll play.
1.What was your favorite Christmas present as a child/ present you wanted that you did or didn’t get?
I got my own tv set when I was 10 (1980). A 13" color tv. In my own room. None of my friends could even come close to that coolness. And it was the last thing I expected to get.
2.For the guys that attended KU, what’s your favorite football moment? Could be a tailgate, celebration, game or just a play.
There are many. Here are some (no particular order):
a) Monte Couzzen’s late TD run to seal the victory over OU….happened right in front of me.
b) Hook and lateral play during the 2004 KSU game
c) Scott Webb’s OT game winning field goal over ISU
d) a tailgating moment: Before the 2003 MU game, three very drunk, obnoxious MU guys enter a Porta-Potty and simultaneously relieve themselves…..leaving the door wide open for the rest of us in the long, long lines to see and hear. As they stumble out, the lady in line behind me turns to her young kids with her and loudly says: “see kids – that’s why I call MU fans a bunch of no-class hicks”. This narrative doesn’t do the moment justice. It was awesome.
e) Bill Snyder’s first KSU game vs KU (Coached by Mason). Coach Snyder continued to call runs up the middle, even though Gilbert Brown and Dana Stubblefield and others were exploding into the backfield every play. KSU ended the game with something like negative 36 yards rushing. My Dad was with me and after the game he turns to me and says….“that KSU coach is a real genius”. And I agreed. Kind of ironic how are sarcasim was right at the time, but the statement also became somewhat true. Coach Snyder turned out to be an excellent coach…but wtf was he thinking that game?
3.Top 5 favorite bands/ musicians of all-time.
1. Iron Maiden
2. Iron Maiden (yes, I love this band that much)
3. Judas Priest
4. Helloween
5. Scorpions
6. Rush
7. Saxon
8. (old) Metallica
9. Queensryche
10. Dio
Ok, so you got more than 5….
4.On a scale of 1 to the Pac-Life Whales, how excited are you for the upcoming football season? Kudos to the person with the best/ funniest analogy.
Extremely excited. You remember Belushi’s speech in “Animal House”: “Quit? Did we quit when the Russians bombed Pearl Harbor?” Yeah, that excited.
5.If you could punch one person in ALL of sports – college, professional – ANYTHING – who would it be?
If they couldn’t punch back – Mike Tyson
If they could punch back – Rick Pitino
6.Top 5 sports movies of all-time.
1. Sandlot (dude, Wendy Pefercorn is HOT!!! “You want smores?” “How can I have some more when you haven’t given me anything yet?” “You’re killin’ me Smalls!”
2. A League Of There Own
3. Major League – “Get behind the ball Dorn – don’t give me none of that Ole bullshit”
4. Rudy
5. Hoosiers
7.There’s one woman in the world that stands above all the rest for every guy, who’s yours? (Yes, we would all kindly appreciate a link :D)
Jewel – hot and extremely talented musician (not my taste in music, but I could learn to deal with it)
8.Do you think Mike Vick should have been reinstated to the NFL?
Of course. He belongs in the National Felons League.
Sawin' wood
A League of Their Own: Nice.
I forgot that one. Tom Hanks was excellent in a Jimmie Foxx imitation, and it was the last time Madonna & Rosie O’Donnell were tolerable.

WTF...seriously...Roxette!!!

Bensa…they have a greatest hits album…if I knew how to buy CD’s still I would get it.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
I own the greatest hits album
Or at least I have it in digital form, from iTunes. I listen to it frequently. It’s wonderful. Every tune is a classic song. Great collection…
For all the TMNT fans
I found something that might intrigue you.
I thought you knew that algebra was all razzamatazz. A Globetrotter always saves the good algebra for the final minutes.
Holy shit. I totally had a Panda Kahn...
…though I don’t ever remember seeing him in any episode I’d seen. Doesn’t detract from the coolness of a panda trained in the martial arts.
I’m pretty sure I’d seen the ooze machine thing before. On the note of battle outfits, I had TMNT pajamas that came complete with headband.
And why most Star Trek taint everything?
