Jaqwaylin Arps Switches His Commitment to Kansas
A few weeks back Kansas landed a commitment from Denison linebacker and tight end Jimmay Mundine. Today JayhawkSlant is reporting the Jayhawks have added Mundine's teammate and former Texas Tech commit Jaqwaylin Arps.
Arps is a 6'3" 230 defensive end prospect who had been committed to the Red Raiders since April. After Mundine's performance at the Super Jayhawk camp and subsequent commitment to Kansas Arps decided it was worth a look.
After an unofficial visit in late July the talk began that the two might both end up at Kansas and there was real interest on Arps' part in the Jayhawks. Now a month later and several reports later that all but pointed to Kansas, it has become official.
This is a great pickup for the Kansas staff, especially stealing a Texas Tech commit out of the state of Texas. More and more we're going up to bat with some bigger names and lately we're winning some of these. Interestingly too regarding Arps is that he did impress Oklahoma coaches in a big way at their summer camp and they were reportedly looking to offer. He is unranked at this time but that's because he hasn't been evaluated, this should be another good pickup.
One other thing to keep an eye on is a third Denison teammate and 4* running back DJ Jones. Might he want to come to a school that will graduate it's starting running back and play with some familiar faces in two teammates? Maybe? Another little FYI, Jones and Mundine both scored two touchdowns in Denison's opening weekend route of Little Elm last Friday.

Arps
There was a post this morning on Texas Tech’s premium website stating that Tech pulled his scholarship offer this morning. Arps was never that solid to them and apparently they decided to cut him loose.

Fantastic news.
Every year, Mangino’s recruiting classes get better and better.
The Oklahoma tidbit is particularly interesting. I doubt that we will ever really reach the point (at least not while Stoops is there) where we can legitimately go head-to-head with guys Oklahoma really wants and win, but we can DEFINITELY go after their “considering” list and reel them in. Like, Arps.
Soon enough, we’ll be on that “next tier”.
Nice thread reply fail.
