Around SBN: The End Of Sabanball: Details, Barbarians, And Precision

Read this in my local paper and it sounds like the first serious discussion with regards to a proposed change. Interesting stuff and it does include a playoff format. The thing I'm not sure I like is that it calls for the top 25 to be determined at the end of the year by "A new 12-person committee, made up of one representative from each of the 11 conferences, plus Notre Dame." That's a big human factor and an entirely disproportionate bias for Notre Dame who's team would be the only one with sole representation which seems a bit ridiculous. A long way to go still but the discussion seems to be gradually progressing.

If they really want a twelfth member...

…have it rotate among all the independent schools, that way ND can get its say in every couple years. While I’m a fan of the Irish (hello…Catholic), I agree with Warden that the school needs to get off its damn high horse of tradition and join a conference.

I'm Catholic, too.

Just tired of Notre Dame.

If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

Echoing the previous comments...

…Notre Dame having its own representative is a total non-starter for me. They’ve been roughly as “good” as K-State the last two years (10-25 for the Irish, 10-14 for the Wildcats). Any other team in the nation who played like that would be an afterthought.

hell...

even with K-State’s recent struggles they’ve been more relevant in the last decade than Notre Dame. Hawaii, Boise State and Utah are all non-BCS teams that could make the same argument. Realistically the only reason Notre Dame has been relevant is that they are always wildly overrated at the beginning of the season on name value alone.

ok…maybe I’m going a smidge overboard, but to even have that be in the proposal is stupid.

Saw you guys got Harper by the way…congrats on that, I’m interested to see how that pans out.

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

Good to have Harper in Manhattan...

…no matter how it turns out, we enjoy seeing Kansas kids choosing K-State.
