This would be huge for KU and especially Coach Self.

I'll admit

It’s not a normal source for this sort of thing, but hey, it would be darn great if he did end up committing, right?

absolutely...

That's some pretty...

damn good news if true. Following up this years class with a guy like Harrison Barnes would be great

We've had great luck recruiting in Iowa.

(LaFrentz, Collison, Hinrich) Let’s hope it keeps up.

Hey guys

From what I’ve heard, Harrison’s kept it very close to the vest. If KU is leading, chances are this paper wouldn’t be the one to find out first.

From a friend of Harrisons: “Whoever recruits his mom the best will get him.”

by CrossCyed on Jun 15, 2009 2:33 PM CDT reply actions

I would tend to agree...

that his mom and family is a big key to this and with that I think KU has a big edge at this stage. Kansas is by far the closest to home of any school he’s really entertained and I Bill Self is great with parents. If his mom can keep his younger sister (I believe?) in Ames, have her son go a quick drive down I-35 to Lawrence that would seem like a great situation for the family.

I guess I'd be silly to discount that as a possibility...

but I think it will be tough.

We do have somethings working in his favor.

His dad played here and his mom works here.
He plays a LOT of pickup ball with the ISU team. A LOT.
FWIW, apparently Tim Floyd recommended ISU after it sort of became clear he wouldn’t go to USC.
He’s not in any way a normal basketball recruit. He’s a good kid.
ISU was also the first to offer him, and he apparently likes McDermott.

I’d put ISU at 25-30% to get him.

Somethin like that

I blogged about the game I watched Harrison play in March on CloneChronicles.

One of our mutual friends called him “the whitest black guy ever. you’re blacker than him.”

I’m pretty damn white.

Nice...

I used to live in Ames and one of my friends growing up had an older brother that played football with Fred Hoiberg. I think we were in 2nd grade and he was over at my buddies house and agreed to be all-time QB for one of our daily touch fball games…it was a pretty big deal for a kid in Ames at that age.

I was also really good friends with Aaron Greving who ended up a Hawkeye but was a dang good Football and Baseball player at Ames High if I recall.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Cyclones from my days there watching Victor Alexander, Jeff Grayer etc. and Johnny Orr cruising out of the tunnel to “Here’s Johnny” I still hope Barnes becomes a Jayhawk, but if it’s somewhere else I’ll hope for ISU for sure.

I'd second that Denver.

I hope we get him, but if we don’t It’d be nice if he stayed close to home and in the Big 12 rather than going to ratface U or Kentucky.

Thanks for the tip.

And yeah, I’m glad you put in a "? there. Because I certainly think it’s far from a done deal. Really, it could be a host of different schools. Still, though, I FrontPaged it (albeit late) just because of optimistic reasons. Or something. I want him, that’s for sure.
