We're Supposed to Be Good Next Year

Season wrapup stuff will get started any day, now. Ideally, sometime before the weekend. And yes, I know that it's been nearly two weeks since we last played basketball. And yes, I understand that most of you have moved on. But I haven't, and content needs to feel these pages. So, whatever.

Before we get into wrapping up the 2008-2009 season, it's time to...look ahead to next season. You know, hope springs eternal, all of that fun stuff. And, as we've speculated here at RCT, we are looking fabulous so far in preseason rankings. So, victory.

Of course, this is assuming that Cole and Sherron come back. Which certainly isn't a sure thing. Not by a longshot. But, whatever. It also doesn't include any other potential incoming recruits, like Lance Stephenson or Xavier Henry (plus CJ!).

But, the pressure's on, now. We've gotta win it all, or we are utter failures. I won't even watch a single game until we reach Indianapolis. Swear.

I mean, we're already a shoo-in to get that far, right? The polls released 7 months before games are being played said so!

With all of that entirely seroius, joke-free banter aside, here is a table of all of the already-released rankings.

I have to say, my favorite part is the fact that Dick Vitale ranked...his Top 5. Way to go out on a limb, there, bud. Don't want to do any actual research, huh, Dickie V? Yeah, didn't think so.

So, yeah. Get your hopes up. We win it all, or we fail.

Nothing like some pressure, eh?

But seriously, the season review is pending soon. Hopefully.

interesting stuff

i thought the most mysterious thing i saw on there was UCONN completely disregarded by all of those lists except for the guy from CNNSI, who had them at THIRD. I’m sure most people couldn’t get beyond the fact that they’re losing Price, Adrien, Thabeet and Austrie, but they will still at least have an amazing backcourt with Dyson returning from injury and Kemba Walker, who looks like he’s gonna be a superstar next year. Stanley Robinson looks like he’s gonna be pretty good too and they’re gonna be replacing Thabeet with a BEAST of a center in this Oriakhu guy.

add it all up and i think UCONN will be next year’s version of this past year’s Kansas team… underrated to start the season and then by February everybody remembers they’re a well-coached team that had plenty of young talent leftover.

might be looking at a new coach and...

NCAA trouble though depending on how all that business plays out

UConn loses everybody, though.

Thabeet, AJ Price, Adrien, Austrie.

Stanley Robinson is excellent as the 4th option; as the probable leading scorer, they have trouble.

Also, Bill Self >> Jim Calhoun. Don’t forget, UConn didn’t even make the Tournament 2 years ago.

It wouldn’t be that big of a shock.

Also, I think that CNNSI guy was rating teams based off the assumption everyone is assuming, even though that obviously won’t happen. So, a UConn team with Thabeet is a lot better.

Count Syracuse out..

Devendorf and Harris are hiring agents and Flynn is going to stay in the draft if he is top 10 which is a distinct possibility.

I would say right now the teams that return the most are going to be...

Kansas, Michigan State and then maybe Duke…there will be teams that develop as well but strictly looking at those that lose very little…those three teams come to my mind.

Duke could be dangerous next year if Henderson comes back, which he most likely will

and if Wake can keep those 3 studs they’d be arguably the best team on paper, but that’s not likely to happen

for sure...

Duke’s strategy to recruit four year players might finally pay off
