Wow

Is Bochy related to Bruce? His statline is something else. High ERA, high H/9, astronomical K/9. It’s a fascinating line to look at.

Yes, he is Bruce's son.

And it is a crazy stat line. If he can give up fewer fly balls I think he would be one of the best relievers in the Big-12. He is only a sophomore this year so there is a lot of reason to hope he will take the next step still.

Marcin has been the pitcher who has fascinated me the most. Thomas is a junior. If I had to name the 5 most outstanding pitches I saw each year at Hoglund I think two or three on that list would come from Marcin each season. If I had to name the 5 most horrible pitches I saw each year Thomas might sweep that list. If he ever puts it together he will be an enormous contributor to the staff.

The "Baylor" game

Made some typos and needed to resubmit:
I think the Baylor game in which we gave up 21 runs and 8 home runs alone can skew at least the ERA and HR game the stats. We have up 8 of the season total of 29 home runs in that game. i think Bochy gave up 3 home runs in one inning and Ridenhour matched that total over 3 innings of work.

Hi K28,

I nixed the original post with the typos.

I’d like to forget that Baylor game also. Not only because of the carnage it caused to the pitching numbers. That was a miserable three and a half hours to be a KU baseball fan. It took me two hours to warm my body back up. And it took me two days to warm back up my fandom. But those games happen most years. It was more environmental than anything.

For two years I used to post pitching updates and pull out the NAIA results. That took a lot of time so I left the game vs. Missouri Central in this list. KU will only play two NAIA games so I don’t think the pitching stats will be effected too much. And, probably, Baker will not be much worse than Chicago State or Air Force.

3.72

That’s a pretty solid ERA in college is it not?

I've got crazy flipper fingers!

Hi labb,

I added a line with the Big-12 averages. According to the NCAA official statistic site (last updated 4/12/09) KU was ranked #15 out of 288 in the nation for ERA. The Jayhawks are ranked #5 national in walks allowed.

It really is an amazing year for Kansas pitching. On average NCAA teams give up 6.8 runs a game. I don’t know what that translates to in terms of ERA but KU has a runs against average of 4.7 per game, more than two below the national average.

Hey James

Saw your post on my Fanshot on MCC, hope you don’t mind me posting your stuff there. I figured they’d be interested, and they’re very knowledgeable, so I figured I’d let them know.

Insanity is just a state of mind.

No Giants, I don't mind at all.

It’s all good. As long as they don’t make fun of me of course.

Bochy is having a hell of a year. It was a good idea to post the story over there.
