Around SBN: Champions League Preview with Jimmy Conrad

Here is your OGT for all things basketball for Monday, March 9th. We've got 4 Championship Games to watch out for: Southern Conference (College of Charleston, who upset Davidson yesterday, vs. UT Chattanooga, or alma mater of Terrell Owens)....Colonial (VCU vs. George Mason)....WCC (Gonzaga, who has already locked up a berth, vs. St. Mary's, who just got Patty MIlls back and is still on the bubble)....MAAC (Siena, Kansas opponent and league's dominator, vs. Niagara, who Kansas played in the 1st round in 2007 and who who won in 2OT yesterday against Rider).

I'll be here, and so should you. Let's get this second week of Championship "Week" started off right...

"I log on to RCT after school, and I see the 228 comments on this thread. I actually immediately panicked, because knowing KC, I figured some other fan from another school (most likely Mizzou) came over and said something stupid. Then, KC freaked out at him, and said something stupid (no offense, KC, but this really wouldn’t be that extraordinary for you to pull off) and then there was mass hysteria. I would have to ban people, and warn people, and it’d be mass chaos." - SlowDance

Busy night for me tonight...actually...

most of the week but I’ll try to check in when I can…here’s how I hope it shakes out tonight

Coll. of Charleston – on of the original mid majors
VCU
St. Mary’s
Siena…

those aren’t my picks just what I want to happen

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

by Owen on Mar 9, 2009 5:50 PM CDT reply actions

I'm same as Denver, almost.

Go C of C!
Go George Mason!
Go St. Mary’s!
Go Siena!

Although, I’d be fine with Niagara or VCU winning. For some reason, Chattanooga bothers me, and it’s no fun if Gonzaga wins.

by rockchalk on Mar 9, 2009 6:08 PM CDT reply actions

C of C...

have to root for Bobby Cremins, right?

I just got back from your mom's basement.

by Warden11 on Mar 9, 2009 6:25 PM CDT reply actions

Right.

Plus they took down America’s Darling. It’s fun to root for the underdog, until ESPN overcovers them to death and everyone knows who they are. It isn’t quite as fun, after that.

That’s why I almost, almost want VCU to win. I can’t quite get there, though.

by rockchalk on Mar 9, 2009 6:26 PM CDT up reply actions

By the way.

In case no one pays attention to basketball like I do, the America’s Darling I’m referring to is, of course, Davidson.

And, more specifically, Stephen Curry. Yes, the same Stephen Curry who was 5-19 yesterday.

Oooh, scary.

He played ball at South Carolina, lives in South Carolina:

and claims he wanted to restore College of Charleston to it’s former glory! That seems unlikely. Must have needed the money and it’s the closest college to his favorite golf course. It says he lives in Hilton Head, so greens fees are probably expensive.

And, C of C is losing by 11 to Chattanooga.

Yeah.

What’s the deal with that?

Since I was like 6, I’ve had it ingrained in me, for one reason or another, that dunking wasn’t allowed in pregame warmups.

Is this true?

Was this just a rule that certain coaches (like Roy, most likely, as those are the games I went to…) followed?

Someone, please enlighten me.

I remember the Lew Alcindor rule:
