Open Game Thread :: Texas @ #9 Kansas :: Thread Two

Well, that was quite bad, for the first 19 minutes.

And then, all of a sudden, it wasn't bad anymore. A quick, 7-0 run to close it out, and we have all of the momentum.

I actually think we're in pretty good shape, now.

Just, please NCHCBS, play Travis Releford. I promise, just do it. It'll turn out well. I promise.

Please?

Releford

Could have a nice game. Or he could keep passing it to the ref and making other boneheaded plays. Who knows.

by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Mar 7, 2009 4:05 PM CST reply actions

He's yet to make a bonehead play so far today.

So, let’s at least wait until it happens now to punish him for that.

At least give him a shot. That’s all I’m asking for.

by rockchalk on Mar 7, 2009 4:06 PM CST up reply actions

Self may have no choice but to play him.

Tyrel is just too over-matched physically against Texas. At least Travis can make them work a little more. He’ll be scary though.

Holy hell

Central Arkansas only scored 7 points in the first half Wednesday night against Stephen F. Austin. That’s crazy.

In other interesting SFA news...

they won a game 112-111 in triple OT earlier this year against North Dakota St. NDSU was led by Ben Woodside, who scored 60 points. At one point the score was 20-2 in favor of SFA.

I am Jack's unbridled optimism.

They also played in a game

Danger time.

Texas is currently shooting 57% from the field. We haven’t given up anything over 50% since the season-opener last year against UL-Monroe.

Last Big 12 team to shoot over 50%?

Kevin Durant and the Longhorns who came up to Lawrence, the last time Texas played @ Kansas.

I’m worried.

Marcus is playing awesome, though. Markieff, on the other hand, isn’t paying attention and is taking random threes. Sit his ass on the bench.

Oh, and sit Tyrel. He is providing little, if anything, right now besides that HUGE clutch three.

And, finally, Cole is just getting worked by Pittman. On both sides of the floor. If there was ever a case to be made that he isn’t ready for the NBA, today is it. Imagine him up against Shaq…he’d get wrecked.

Hey guys

While we have a few minutes for commercials, I’m in need of a 14 hour playlist because I have a long drive ahead of me next weekend. Any specific song suggestions that are good for driving?

How many

yellow brick road references are we gonna get from this play-by-play guy?

by Bensa on Mar 7, 2009 4:59 PM CST reply actions

How is that a foul?

They need to eliminate that from the rule book. That is NOT a foul.

I am Jack's unbridled optimism.

Got to hand it to Brady...

Abrams has been pretty non-existent so far…crappy deal there but what can you do

How the hell is that a foul?

One of the worst calls of the season, easy.

Shut up, Brando. You know nothing about basketball.

by rockchalk on Mar 7, 2009 5:00 PM CST reply actions

Unfortunate...

but not really Brady’s fault there.

Does anyone else just look at Tyshawn Taylor and...

think that no one hates to lose more than he does…

by Owen Kemp on Mar 7, 2009 5:02 PM CST reply actions

i sure do

he;s my favorite player on the team, as if that wasn’t obvious by now. it’s gonna be fun to see what should be an awesome career from him

by Danny Satan on Mar 7, 2009 5:03 PM CST up reply actions

I still think Tyshawn hates it more...

his reaction at postgame interviews after they lose is of absolute disgust…when they win he’s still pretty stoic.

Isn’t the old saying that the best competitors aren’t the ones that love to win but those that hate to lose…THAT is Tyshawn Taylor

Yeah

What a great job that is.

I am Jack's unbridled optimism.

by SlamDunkTheFunk on Mar 7, 2009 5:04 PM CST up reply actions

And Dominic James

didn’t go to the NBA, which also influenced T2.

by Bensa on Mar 7, 2009 5:04 PM CST up reply actions

Now the refs give us a break.

I think they were embarrassed by the call on Brady.

by hunter s. royal on Mar 7, 2009 5:04 PM CST reply actions

They fucking should have been.

It’s the most ridiculous part of basketball. A guy can JUMP into a defender, INITIATE the contact, and somehow it is the defender’s fault, resulting in a foul. Unbelievable.

I am Jack's unbridled optimism.

by SlamDunkTheFunk on Mar 7, 2009 5:05 PM CST up reply actions

OK, damn.

Wow.

What a huge board by Cole, and a great play by Sherron. THAT’S how you run a break, SC.

Huge shot by Brady. About time that he showed up bigtime to a game and hit some shots.

Finally, great steal by Sherron. Even better dunk by T2. Awesome.

This game is pretty much over, folks.

OK, Sherron, just make your free throws and we should win.

That’s all that’s left, now.

by rockchalk on Mar 7, 2009 5:08 PM CST reply actions

Wow

that was a poor call by that official. I think the word is “inertia.”

by Bensa on Mar 7, 2009 5:09 PM CST reply actions

Brady

has absolutely locked down on Abrams. If it wasn’t for the refs bailing him out, Abrams would have zero 2nd half points.

I just like to be extra, extra careful.

Weirder things have happened.

If he hits even one of these free throws, I’m game.

But if he misses both, and they hit a three, it is an entirely different game.

Thanks for the thread compliment.

Today has been a bunch a bunch a bunch of fun.

And we’ve still got plenty of basketball to be played…

God, I love March.

by rockchalk on Mar 7, 2009 5:18 PM CST up reply actions

Ok, hopefully Sherron's all OK.

I really aren’t worried, though. He was just bouncing up-and-down.

by rockchalk on Mar 7, 2009 5:17 PM CST reply actions

Again, though, a Texas-Kansas game was awesome.

They really showed up to play in the first half, and were winning by 14 (!!!) at one point. Damn, what a comeback.

And, again, thanks to both Bechard and Kleinmann. Both are just the best.

by rockchalk on Mar 7, 2009 5:17 PM CST reply actions

Gah

That was a satisfying win. I’m really growing to enjoy these UT games, but that might be because we win so many of them…

Game MVP?

Is it okay if I say Morningstar? He drained clutch threes and locked down their best player.

I am Jack's unbridled optimism.

by SlamDunkTheFunk on Mar 7, 2009 5:22 PM CST reply actions

Yes.

He’d be up there.

Marcus Morris also played awesome, and Kieffer had himself some really nice plays in the second half.

Sherron also played really well for stretches, just had way too many stupid turnovers.

by rockchalk on Mar 7, 2009 5:23 PM CST up reply actions

McMorris

was really good and he helped keep things together when they got scary looking, but Brady was the dagger today. His defense alone puts him in the conversation. He played phenomenal.

I am Jack's unbridled optimism.

Just watching basketball.

I’m about to run, though, actually.

It’s a downtime in CBB, so now’s my chance to get something semi-productive done, and get back in time to watch BBall the rest of the day.

by rockchalk on Mar 7, 2009 5:38 PM CST up reply actions

Werd.

I really should finish studying, but the idea of writing down the lyrics to the Fresh Prince theme song as the answer to my exam question is too funny for me to take this seriously.

I needed to give my fingers a break.

Road trips are easy for me. Just get Bruce Springsteen’s 1975-1985 live release and play it a couple times(It’s must be 5 hours long) Of course I’m older & a Springsteen fan. I still remember when he played rock music. Instead of the dumbass superbowl halftime crap. You’re probably wanting music from this century however.

Showed up around 10:15.

It’s 11:40 and I’ve read through the Daily thread, OGT #1, and OGT #2. Commented here and there on a few things. I also rec’d a ton of comments.

It also took me 4 beers to get through.

I just got back from your mom's basement.
