Championship Week -- Day Four
After a mostly encouraging first OGT on Championship Week, here we go again. Being a Friday night, it is virtually barren of meaningful Bubble Games (actually, it's completely barren), but there are oodles and oodles of conference tournament games. A bunch.
Use this as your OGT for al things Championship Week, today.
We'll be adding some more, random sections to the CW previews as the "Week" progresses. All in an effort to be as comprehensive as possible, of course.
Championship Week
As always, times listed are EST.
CW Game of the Day: #3 Murray State vs. #2 Austin Peay (ESPNU, 9 PM) Ohio Valley Semis -- There wasn't a whole lot of great selection, and I didn't really want to pick a quarterfinal matchup. So, I went here. Peay swept the Racers, but Murray State is the much better team, if you listen to KenPom. Austin Peay narrowly escaped getting upset on Tuesday in the quarters; let's see if they can't rebound.
Player to Watch: F Lester Hudson (UT-Martin) -- I'm sure most have read his story, by now, but if not, check it out. Basically, the dude is mad talented, but grew up in the wrong part of Memphis with the wrong influences, and had some wrong turns along the way. Still, he has enough talent to play in the NBA, and it's a delight to watch him play. I hope that UT-Martin can make it to the NCAA Tournament, just so he gets shown off. He has the talent to scare some 2 seed, though, in the first round.
With all of that said, the complete schedule listing is posted after the break...

#9 Hartford vs. #8 Maine (7 PM)
Atlantic Sun (Semifinals) -- Nashville

West Coast (Quarterfinals) -- Vegas
#8 Loyola Marymount vs. #5 San Diego (9 PM)
#7 San Fransisco vs. #6 Pepperdine (11:30 PM)
OK, finally, that's all. A jam-packed slate ahead of y'all; as usual, I should be checking in around 6 PM, CST. Hope to see this place jamming about by then. First tip is at 12 EST, 11 CST, so this OGT opens an hour before, this time: at 10 CST. An hour to talk until you're blue about Delaware-Georgia State.
In total, there are 23 Championship Week games today. 11 First Rounders (America East, Colonial, MAAC and Southern), 8 Quarterfinals (Horizon, Valley, WCC) and 4 Semifinals (A-Sun and OVC). Not bad, not bad.
The A-Sun semis, OVC semis and Valley quarters are all televised, if you're interested. That's all, though. The rest are only GameCast-able.
The Race for 4,000 begins...NOW!

GO San Francisco!!!!
Former Jayhawk Rex Walters at the helm as coach of the Dons…
Check it out, he’s a blogger
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
Why watch basketball on TV when you could be at Hoglund watching baseball?
It’s a perfect spring day. 70 degrees and sunny. KU plays a double header at Hoglund vs. Northwestern starting at 1PM. Come for the sun, stay for the PING!

If I were there I would...
and maybe KC will make it today

Not to worry,
I’ll cheer for you.
The first game of the series will be the toughest one. Northwestern has a pretty good staff ace. Hopefully Shaeffer Hall will outduel him. The rest of the Northwestern rotation looks pretty smackable.

No such luck, Denver and JQ.
I think I’m getting sickER. FML (F my life)
"I log on to RCT after school, and I see the 228 comments on this thread. I actually immediately panicked, because knowing KC, I figured some other fan from another school (most likely Mizzou) came over and said something stupid. Then, KC freaked out at him, and said something stupid (no offense, KC, but this really wouldn’t be that extraordinary for you to pull off) and then there was mass hysteria. I would have to ban people, and warn people, and it’d be mass chaos." - SlowDance

Creighton-Wichita State is getting really intense.
Creighton was up, at one point, 47-27. I turned the channel, thinking the game is over.
It’s now 61-56, Blue Jays up, with 1:34 left. Shockers at the FT line shooting two.
Creighton is thought to be “in” by most bracketologists, although such a bad loss would probably knock them out.
Craziness.
Score Update coming momentarily…
Damn.
Wichita State just got the rebound off of Creighton’s missed one-and-one, then came down and hit two free throws.
Then, the Jays just turned the ball over, and subsequently fouled the Shockers.
Wichita State with two free throws to tie, 10 seconds left.
Wichita State misses THEIR end of the one-and-one....
then picks up the rebound, and calls TO.
9 seconds left, Wichita State ball, still.
Oh, and Cornell just became the VERY first team to clinch a NCAA berth
by clinching the Ivy League.
One in, 64 to go!
Yeah, 1.9.
I was guesstimating off of live time.
Creighton was practically IN the NCAA Tournament, as long as they made the finals. It would’ve been close, but I bet they get in.
Now? I doubt it.
And, is this the beginning of a magical run for the Shockers?
Probably not.
They are a bubble team, and if they made the Finals, they would certainly have an argument. But losing to a bad team like Wichita State, in just the quarterfinals, probably will knock them out.
They’ll get to host some NIT games, though!
Boring finish.HaHa!
That seemed like a lot of time before the shot was taken.
Holy. Shit.
I’m glad I turned to it when I did.
That is about as good of a finish you can possibly see.
I was just about to say, too, that Creighton losing would make Jankovich’s run to the NCAA Tournament all that-much easier. But, now, they will have to take down both Creighton and, most likely, Northern Iowa.
Seeing Altman reminded me of when he took the Arkansas job:
He was at the press conference, heard a bunch of sooouie pig calls, and went back to Creighton the next day. Culture shock was too much for him I guess.
could it have been that much of a shock?
He did spend time in Manhattan…
I just got back from your mom's basement.
Good one Warden.
I’d almost forgotten they ran him out of there for dragging their program down. Fortunately Asbury & Woolridge restored them to their proper glory.
