OK, we can be a football school now for a few months!
So, I've got to do something to get my mind off this damn loss Friday night. So, I thought I would go ahead and get everybody's brains moving in the direction of Memorial Stadium. Yes, we are a football school, too; contrary to popular belief of some idiot here on this site.
Two Deep "-" Definite 1-2 combo "/" Uncertain 1-2 combo
QB - Todd Reesing - Kale Pick
RB - Jake Sharp - Jocques Crawford
WR - Dezmon Briscoe - Chris Omigie
WR - Kerry Meier - Raimond Pendleton
WR - Jonathon Wilson - A.J. Steward
TE - Tim Biere - Bradley Dedeaux
OT - Ben Lueken / Ian Wolfe
OG - Sal Capra / John Williams
C - Jeremiah Hatch - Brad Thorson
OG - Carl Wilson - Joe Semple
OT - Jeff Spikes - Trevor Marongelli
------------------------------------------
DE - Jake Laptad - Jeff Wheeler
DT - Caleb Blakesley - Darius Parish
DT - Richard Johnson Jr. - Jamal Greene
DE - Max Onyegbule - Tanner Hawkinson / D.J. Marshall
OLB - Arist Wright - Jon Watts
ILB - Justin Springer / Julian Jones
OLB - Angus Quigley - Dakota Lewis
CB - Justin Thornton - Chris Harris
FS - Phillip Strozier - Lubbock Smith
SS - Darrell Stuckey - Olaitan Oguntodu
CB - Daymond Patterson - Corrigan Powell
------------------------------------------
K - Jacob Branstetter
P - Alonso Rojas
KR - Jocques Crawford - Dezmon Briscoe
PR - Daymond Patterson - Rell Lewis
So, after looking at that, I'm sure that you will have some minor disagreements with what I have, some minor changes, but in the end, I think it is safe to say that this team has a chance to do something very, very special. Ever since Todd Reesing took over at quarterback, this program has been on the rise. Ever since that little under 6-footer took over, this program has been exciting to follow
Well, as you all know, this is Sparky's senior year, and expectations are high. The same could be said of the Tiggers last year, and we all saw how that turned out.
Does that ring a bell?? Hell, looking at that picture, you would think they had just seen their star quarterback's Heisman hopes, and the team's national championship hopes go swirling down the toilet.
So, let's not fall into the trap of coming up with lame stuff like this, and getting out of hand with unreal expectations.

Nice ass chin, by the way, Chase!
That way we don't end up looking like this...

And, we don't have one of these next January.

Would you want anybody else playing QB for you in a game on the beach than THIS guy?
I didn't think so.
So, now that basketball season is officially over, the next big time college sport to get here is football, and it's time to start getting ready for that! A 9-4 or 10-3 record, with an appearance in the Big 12 Championsip game and a Cotton Bowl berth in Sir Jerry's new Palace in Dallas would be a great way to go out for Todd, Kerry, Darrell & Co.

Uh-oh...
That is the first parallel to Misery’s season last year: a fat QB…….

Omigie, Sands and Jones, methinks.
- Omigie has TOO much size to not see the field early on in OOC play.
- Sands has a HUGE leg up on Toben, just because he is on campus already. (Don’t hunt me down, Toben, I know you’re reading this, haha.) Although, they play a totally different style, I think that Joc is gonna have a good year, and be our “power” back, in essence.
- Julian Jones is a man-beast! 6’2", 253, with rumors of a 4.6 – 40? Given our thin LB depth, I think he sees the field from Day One.

Yes I can't wait until Omigie becomes a household name....
I can see it now….people will be saying “OH MY GEE!!!” (i doubt that’s how it’s pronounced but hey)…
- This comment gets a small asterisk due to it’s lameness
Yes, Marcus,
if you put a space after the aserisk, it does.

Shit.
There are so many GREAT players coming in this year that I keep forgetting about all of these guys!! Yeah, I think he is gonna be GREAT! Along with Travis Stephens. We have TOO MANY good players now! Can we line up 13 on each side of the ball, in order to use them at their ultimate potential?

Haha, you and your dreams, Marcus...
We ain’t getting Bell. McCay is in love with Florida. Terry, from what Denver says, really, really likes us. Randle – who knows about him…

Ain't getting Bell....
damned….it’s time for me to go cry in the corner…Damned him! Just a month ago he told Scout.com that we were his favorite….but oh well…I’ll take Keeston…and Randle…and currently unknown recruit that will make a big splash at camps this summer…..
I don't think that Bell ever said that.

Yeah...but then again its from Missouri's Scout site
"While Bell admits liking Missouri, he is quick to point out another football program he is impressed with.
‘I like Kansas a lot,’ Bell said. ‘They are probably my early favorite, but I plan on keeping an open mind and check out all the schools that offer me before making a final decision.’"
Hmmm, interesting.
That was probably before OU offered him. (Lifelong OU fan, he is, btw)

Tyler Gabbert
is a name that I would really like to see us pick up on. Watched his highlight stuff on Rivlas, and he is just like Todd, too; much like Jordan Webb is.

Nice post KC.
I’m sure Labbadabba will be happy to see you go over to the dark side. :D
Plus, somebody get Sherron’s nutritionist to see Reesing fast!

Couple things on your two deep that might need revised...
and your excused because I know you’ve been basketball focused lately but….
Left Tackle…all signs in spring ball according to Mangino is that Hawkinson is handling the switch well and he’s running first team.
Left Guard…Mangino basically said this guy is the starter but in trying to keep him grounded followed that up by saying, “if he continues the way he’s going”
Right Guard…right now Capra is running first team there…
Right Tackle…this could be a battle w/Spikes and Leuken and we could see a move to the inside w/Leuken.
TE…Steward running second team in more passing formations sounds like he’s getting much more comfortable with the switch and he’d provide a ton of athleticism for the spot.
DT…Caleb’s hurt right now but apparently Duane Zlatnik has jumped into the first team spot here with Richard Johnson having a solid spring.
DE…running w/the 2nd team right now is non other than Kevin Young
LB…lot’s of 2 LB sets being practiced, coaches have said this might become more common. position very much in the air though in terms of players.
DB…Chris Harris playing that 5th DB slot most of the time just as he did against Missouri
other comments…sounds like Crawford is turning some heads early and while Mangino has made statements to the effect that Sharp is the starter a nice 1,2 punch would be a very good thing.
Briscoe and Jamal Greene have been suspended for spring ball…sounds like they could be back next week, not a huge deal I don’t think.
Read somewhere that Branstetter earned himself a scholly so good for him.

Also I'm planning the defensive spring overview this week...

Yikes.
Why did I waste all that time doing that? Haha
by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 11:19 PM CDT up reply actions
no not a waste at all...
it’s very hard to tell this early and a lot can change…most of what I’m going on is what Mangino says in interviews and those are usually very guarded and how accurate…who knows?? Just throwing what’s been said out there for the sake of discussion and your post got it going so I appreciate it.

When Joc decides
to GO OFF and have a sensational year, I will be the first person to say “I told you so.” I said it in a post by Este (IIRC) back in like January or something. The offense is gonna be SICK.

I remember that
I need to be shown, though, because I’m skeptical

But Crawford’s upside, in my eyes, is just tremendous. You don’t win Nat’l JUCO POY by being a slouch.
But, there was another spot where I said it more emphatically that he will have a real impact this year.

Nice job KC
love the football talk getting going….the talk of the young guys like Kevin Young playing on the 2nd team get me really excited, I’m really going to be following this recruiting class throughout their careers here as it’s been the first one that I’ve followed so closely during their recruitment.
by I need more Esteban on Mar 29, 2009 11:25 PM CDT reply actions
Agreed.
I followed the class LAST year fairly close, but with all the studs coming in this year (McD, Toben, etc.) you can’t help but be MORE excited about this year’s.

Other than that….I’m out for the night fellas…
I'll be at Folsom for the game this year....
watching Todd Reesing torch the Buffaloes!! :D

I suspect this story will get some play at Missouri blogs.
I feel pretty hopeful about this year’s football team.
So, what are your thoughts about the rest of the Big-12 North? Does KU come into the season as the favorite this year?
www.rockchalktalk.com for pretty good KU baseball coverage
depends who you talk to but...
there is definitely some momentum behind KU as the favorite. Here’s my take right now and this is not in order but just why each team will or won’t make noise.
Kansas – favorite in my mind but then again I’m a little bit of a homer
Missouri – I’m not as convinced as everyone that they will have a big dropoff…yes they had some turnover but I’m thinking that just as we hope we have built some depth and improved the program…Mizzou has too…I’d just be surprised if the cupboard was bare.
Nebraska – lots of question marks and some turmoil early but QB will be the big one. I think they’ll be solid defensively and how well there offense goes will determine how high they can climb.
Colorado – Beating a dead horse here but this team has loads of talent and it’s maturing. Very little of it has reached it’s potential and if it does they could be a sleeper and win the North. If injuries and unfulfilled promise continues to be the norm they won’t do much again.
Kansas State – I think this is going to be a bit of a trainwreck this year…that’s all I’ll say.
Iowa State – Not a contender but they’ll likely be a little better…glad to have them at home.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
I had not even considered Colorado.
I figures it would be KU and MU with NU as the darkhorse. Maybe the North is a bit deeper this year.
So you think K-State is really in a tailspin?
www.rockchalktalk.com for pretty good KU baseball coverage
yes I do...
they have some strong areas but I just think this transition is going to be tough…the recruiting class this year was horrid…they were behind the eightball and never recovered. The final hope was that Bryce Brown could lend them some instant credibility and that fell through along with several coaches bailing after coming with Snyder for the rebuild. It just doesn’t seem there is a lot of belief there right now and this year I don’t see them as a real threat.
Maybe Snyder will ultimately right the ship for a second go around but at 67-68 or whatever it is you have to wonder how much time he’ll be willing to put in. I see them finishing in the lower half of the North.

2010
Any news on what the suspensions were for? I have gotten the indication they weren’t any big deal.
As far as recruiting if we can get:
Either OT Washington or Spurgeon and Terry we are off to a great start. Those three are in the top 150 and we have not even come close to cracking that level so it would be something. Who knows? If they were to commit early enough other big time recruits would have to look our way. Just a thought
don't think the suspensions were serious...
as far as recruiting Terry would have been my guess based on an interview I did with him earlier after Junior day but it’s been pretty quiet lately. Spurgeon would be a good pickup but he hasn’t even been to visit yet so it might be a little more time there.
Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.
If things progress this year like they are and the season ends up being a big 12 north title what can stop us from a top 25 class next year? Something that has been on my mind.
stiff competition in our two best areas these days...
Dallas/Ft Worth has everyone trying to get a piece of the pie and Kansas’ best talent always seems bent on going elsewhere. That’s about all that can stop us. Top 35 is good for me but Top 25 would be great.
