Anyone watching?

I’ve gotta say, it is just depressing me.

We should be playing in this game.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 1:27 PM CDT reply actions

And, I should not be sitting on my ass at home watching it.

I shoud be sitting right in the middle of nothing but red Louisville fans, along with the cool KU family of four right in front of us, screaming my ass off everytime the ’ Hawks make a play, and getting dirty looks from all the UofL fans. It would have been AWESOME.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 1:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah.

We would have probably lost, but I think it would have been the best way to end the season.

Completely and entirely moving beyond EVERYONE’s expectations. Give the overall #1 seed a serious scare, before tapering off. Giving us an incredible amount of momentum going into next year.

But hell, maybe it’s better this way. Maybe we’ll be more motivated next year.

If Sherron comes back, I have a feeling no one will be forgetting that loss any time soon.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 1:32 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah

I can watch the next game but I don’t think I’ll be able to watch this one…..It’s fun to think about next years team, though

by I need more Esteban on Mar 29, 2009 1:36 PM CDT up reply actions

it's more than fun...

C – Cole, Withey (two 6’11"/7 Footers)
PF – Marcus, Markieff, Robinson
SF – Stephenson, Brady, Little, Releford
SG – Tyshawn, Tyrel
PG – Collins, E Johnson

Obviously there is no way we’re looking at a 13 man rotation but I think we could go with a solid 4 man frontline rotation like we did last year.

and then probably 4-5 guys rotating out in the backcourt and wing

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

by Owen on Mar 29, 2009 1:44 PM CDT up reply actions

SICK!

National title, here we come! That frontline is as good as you will find around the country. If only Withey was eligible first semester next year…

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 1:48 PM CDT up reply actions

it'd be nice but he'll have had...

over a year and a half going against Cole at that point in practice which is huge for both of them

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

by Owen on Mar 29, 2009 1:49 PM CDT up reply actions

See, that's what scares me though.

And what makes me enjoy seasons like this one so much.

I hate expectations. That is what made this year so awesome. There were no expectations, so everything we did, just about, was awesome.

Next year, though, should be fine. Other times will likely overshadow us, at least partially, while we develop.

We’ll still be incredibly young, and will probably lose a game or two that freaks everybody out.

By the end of the year, though, you’d have to think we’d be a Title Contender. And that’s as exciting as hell.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 1:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Personally I never speak of National Titles in terms of expectations....

Kansas fans should know just how much has to go your way to be National Champions. Final Four…? sure those are expectations I would have for a team in situations but National Title is never something to count on.

Althoug Big12 title, would be awesome again…6 in a row???

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

by Owen on Mar 29, 2009 1:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Big 12 Title for sure.

That should definitely be a goal.

Final Four wouldn’t bother me too bad, as long as everyone didn’t freak out if we didn’t get there.

Once you get there, though, a lot of it is just luck and stuff. So it’s really stupid to expect a National Championship.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 1:57 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm a greedy bastard.

Not really “expecting” it, but more stating that it is a distinct possibility.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd imagine that

Marcus, Markieff and Robinson will all get the first semester to figure out which one or two will see PT once Withey becomes eligible. Obviously, Withey will have a learning curve and likely won’t come out and start right away, but he will eventually. And there will only be room for one or two more, at the max, meaning one of them gets left out.

For the perimeter, I bet we go 5 and maybe even 6 at the beginning of the year to see what we have. Here is how I see it playing out:

Sherron
Tyshawn
Stephenson
Little
Brady/Tyrel
Releford/E Johnson

I only think one of Brady and Tyrel will see significant playing time next year. Same with Elijah and Travis, although both of them have the potential to emerge and get more PT.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 1:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Agree...we'll see a much deeper team at the beginning of the year....

while Self tries to settle a rotation and give guys an opportunity to prove their the ones to do it. Come tourney time we’ll probably be back down to a solid 8 man rotation…it’s possible we’d go deeper with that level of talent but even last year as deep as that team was the bench and the minutes got shorter.

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything but they make you smile when pushed down the stairs.

by Owen on Mar 29, 2009 1:57 PM CDT up reply actions

So MIch St.

hanging with Louisville early….that sucks because that means we definitely could’ve hung with em.

He stated the EXACT thing I said in my Indy FanPost:

That is that nobody – Tyshawn, Brady and Tyrel, except for his one three – wanted to take the big shot.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:03 PM CDT up reply actions

What if Stephenson doesn't come...

Read a rumor about his decision being a “surprise.” Let’s say the worst case scenario plays out. I still think the team could be a title contender IF (it’s a big if) Mario Little gets healthy and becomes the perimeter threat the team really needs, and the rest of the team continues to develop.

With a much more legit big man rotation, the team can dominate the boards more easily, creating easier scoring opportunities for the guards.

So sure I’m biased, but I think Sherron should stay anyways. Thoughts?

by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Mar 29, 2009 2:07 PM CDT up reply actions

No more of this "surprise" talk, please.

Everybody over at JayhawkSlant is freaking out about that comment. It is being taken way out of context, because people are paranoid. All that was meant by that was – He said he knew where he was going, and it would be a surprise in the fact that nobody was supposed to know until HE himself announced it.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:09 PM CDT up reply actions

TWIN!!!

What’s up, man? Do you wanna be McMorris or Kiefer?? I’m a huge 24 fan, so I prefer to be Kiefer, but it’s your call. Hahahahaha

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Badass!

I’m way too inconsistent at making valuable contributions to be Marcus. I just like to be sporadic and spontaneous on here. (Don’t tell anybody this, but I really don’t know anything about basketball. It’s just easy to pretend on the internet :D)

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:17 PM CDT up reply actions

Fuck....

Markieff had a better average again Missery than Marcus

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:18 PM CDT up reply actions

EXACTLY!!!

That is SO me, man! I hate them more than Roseanne Barr hates Johnson’s!!!

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Speaking of which....

What is up with Missouri and KU fans still showing each other love on ESPN…It’s getting gay as hell

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Haha, well...

I’ll admit, I went over to RMN last night and showed a little love. But, I’m done with it.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:22 PM CDT up reply actions

I didn't give crap

to this one Missouri fan but she still deleted me as a friend on Facebook…I’m guessing she went paranoid waiting for me to say something

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:23 PM CDT up reply actions

That's such a Misery thing to do.

I rarely, RARELY, give mu fans shit about them losing. I just expect it to happen, so it’s not a big deal to me. Yet, everytime KU loses, it comes from everywhere. Comical.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Ehh I still give them crap....

Especially after we blew them out in AFH…

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I didn't.

There was no need to. They knew they sucked then, and letting them admit it themselves was much more satisfying than anything I could have said.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah...

I got a lot of crap from that chick leading up to the game…Ha now that I think about it…..She deleted me as a friend after that game too! Yet added me again after KU lost to Texas Tech……..I need to stop accepting her friend requests….

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Why, yes, of course I do, Marcus.

This is definitely NOT a link to my Facebook page. Definitely not.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Interesting....

17 mutual friends…Probably mostly bball and football players huh?

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Currently here in Lawrence....

but originally from Atwood in the northwest corner of the state….Filled with damn K-State fans

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Ah, gotcha.

So do you hate the purple kitties more than misery then?

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions

I grew up hating the purple kitties....

but now realize that it’s not even really a rivalry…

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:40 PM CDT up reply actions

True, true.

But, Old Man Snyder is back. They’re gonna win championships (again??) :D

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Pssshhhhhh....

No one wants to play for dirt old coaches unless their name is Paterno

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:43 PM CDT up reply actions

But, but, but...

They finished second for Bryce Brown!

Ahahahahahaha

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions

No they didn't.

They don’t have enough money to finish second in that kind of race.

by A.J. Haefele on Mar 29, 2009 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions

Idiots....

I was on some sports page on Facebook and some kid was talking about how good K-State was going to be with Bryce Brown…what’s funny is they had a good player with Freeman and they still sucked

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Well, you know.

It usually takes playerS to be good.

Sorry, I’m cranky.

by A.J. Haefele on Mar 29, 2009 2:46 PM CDT up reply actions

No...

supporting actors….And what is with the billboard for K-State sports in Topeka….it’s sad that they have to resort to that to get fans since they can’t win at anything

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Somebody told me

about one between Lawrence and Manhattan that had a big picture of Old Man Snyder, and read “Putting off the Hall of Fame for more wins” or something stupid to that effect.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Hahaha, how lame.

Unless she is like uber-hot, you must discard her permanently.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:32 PM CDT up reply actions

She is uber-hot

but she’s only a Missouri fan because her boyfriend is so it’s usually easy to beat her in an argument….

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Hmmmm, here's the plan...

We are gonna show up at his house one night, and do work on him. One of us will go to the back of the house, the other to the front. We’ll tap on the windows in rapid succession, causing him to run back and forth, and he will have NO IDEA how fast one person could run around the house so fast, since we are identical and all. He’ll crap his pants, that will disgust her, and she’ll be a KU fan for life!

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:36 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

So

That just means he’ll be EXTRA easy to spook because he’ll be on his guard. The problem is he won’t freak out, and might take limbs as a souvenir.

by A.J. Haefele on Mar 29, 2009 2:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah but still....

he’s fighting for my country…even though he is Satan I must respect him…

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Darnell Jackson is currently on the floor for the Cavs.

Game’s on ABC.

In fact, they just showed a clip of him doing this weird dance-type-thing with LeBron before the game.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 2:17 PM CDT reply actions

D-Block!

That picture thing the team does before every game is STOOPID, but it always gets Darnell on SportsCenter, so I don’t complain too much.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Darnell did.

I think I probably miss him more than anybody off of last year’s team. Everytime he did something sick, it was such a surprise because he came out of nowhere last year, and the fact that he was such a key player was so unexpected. Plus, it was SUCH an incredible story, too. I always thought of everything he had been through during his time at KU everytime he did something great.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:21 PM CDT up reply actions

I did...

playing with him back in the day on the streets of OKC he made it rain on them hos

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 2:22 PM CDT up reply actions

He's hard to recognize, though.

00, in case you can’t find him.

He shaved all of his hair, so he looks different.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 2:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Anybody else think...

That HCBS made a phone call to Jeff Capel the other night? “Hey Big 12 buddy, here’s how you destroy UNC. Your welcome.”

by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Mar 29, 2009 2:22 PM CDT reply actions

God, I hope so.

Teabag is within 40 points of Danny Manning’s career scoring total. Can’t let that flamer pass up Danny. Gotta knock ’em out tonight before he gets there.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, I hope.

That would have been awesome.

Although, I would bet that Capel would be the one to call.

by A.J. Haefele on Mar 29, 2009 2:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Just watched a Mangino video on JayhawkSlant

Mangino said Briscoe not practicing because hes suspended right now for violating team rules….anyone know any details other than that? Prolly not but I figured I’d ask since it’s officially time to look to football

by I need more Esteban on Mar 29, 2009 2:48 PM CDT reply actions

Well...

Apparently there are a few people on the message board on JS that say they know, but they are going all righteous power on everybody who is asking, saying it’s none of their business. JK (head moderator at JS) said that it had nothing to do with anything illegal, so it’s likely something small.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:51 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm so ridiculously depressed right now.

This is almost as bad as when we lost.

Ohmygoodness, this is terrible.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 2:50 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed.

Join us in talking about trivial, non-sensical stuff.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 2:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Wow this game...

makes Dickhead Vitale look like an idiot…well it makes all of them look like idiots but hey

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 3:05 PM CDT reply actions

He makes himself look like an idiot

on a pretty regular basis.

That said, he does seem like a genuinely good guy. I just wish he would stop screaming all the time.

by A.J. Haefele on Mar 29, 2009 3:07 PM CDT up reply actions

I love everytime he comes on...

because I can do his hand movements exactly with him!

by jco8394 on Mar 29, 2009 3:09 PM CDT up reply actions

At this point, I'm more than pissed.

We totally could have done this to Louisville.

And we had the Spartans beat…

All of my depression is coming back.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 3:08 PM CDT reply actions

I hate to be the one to disagree...

but KU is WAY too turnover-prone to be playing this well against Louisville. We had 19 turnovers vs. 11 assists on Friday night. Michigan State takes much better care of the ball than KU does/did, which is probably why they’re handling the Louisville pressure fairly well.

I just don’t see KU up 12 at this point if we’re playing this game.

That’s all.

by Bensa on Mar 29, 2009 3:10 PM CDT reply actions

Could be

but to get depressed thinking we would be winning this game had we beaten MSU is, in my opinion, not really worth the trouble.

by Bensa on Mar 29, 2009 3:12 PM CDT up reply actions

You're probably right.

And I do agree that we would have turned the ball over far too much.

I still think we certainly could have won, though.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 3:13 PM CDT up reply actions

I must say

if MSU does win, I’ll be pleased as punch that the Big East will only get 2 teams in the Final Four.

by Bensa on Mar 29, 2009 3:18 PM CDT reply actions

So we're about 10 points better than Louisville this year.

That’s something… I guess. They did win the regular season and tournament in the Big East.

by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Mar 29, 2009 3:24 PM CDT reply actions

Go Oklahoma, go Oklahoma, go Oklahoma.

I’ve never rooted so hard for the Boomer Sooners as I’m about to.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 3:28 PM CDT reply actions

I think that I'm gonna have to

watch the Royals game on MLB Network here in 15 minutes. The thought of what could have been is too great right now. Perhaps I will check the game between half innings, but I can’t stomach a full game.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 3:44 PM CDT up reply actions

I'll catch some of the Royals game.

This is different, though.

I can stomach OU-UNC, because no matter what happened to us, that game would be irrelevant.

If that makes any sense.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 3:50 PM CDT up reply actions

It does.

I’m excited for this game, too. Griffin and Hansbrough? Fuuuuun.

by A.J. Haefele on Mar 29, 2009 3:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Ah, hell.

It’s the Seattle broadcast team. This is weird to watch.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 4:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Well...

I just went over to RR, and apparently it is on a 1 hour tape delay. If you wanna know what happened in the last hour, they have a FanShot up for the game.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 4:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Guess I'll watch the bball game

since I know what happened already.

Griffin already beating Teabag.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 4:07 PM CDT up reply actions

I just flipped over.

Already winning 2-0!!!

We are so awesome!!!

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 4:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh.

I don’t really care.

What is the “real life” score?

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions

HR Gordon, btw.

It was 8-7 in the 5th, IIRC, and both SP’s were still in. Greinke got ROCKED, but most was due to errors by Gordon and the incredible TPJ.

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 4:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Hansbrough

CANNOT compete defensively with Blake Griffin. He will be in foul trouble, guaranteed.

by Bensa on Mar 29, 2009 4:07 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed.

Did you see him just BLOW BY him on that drive? Although, he missed the shot, but he went RIGHT by hiM!

by Andy Edwards on Mar 29, 2009 4:08 PM CDT up reply actions

he can't compete anywhere with Griffin...

OU has to attack that matchup early

OU looks lost right now...

shots aren’t falling and the can’t get it into the middle to Griffin. When they do they’re doubling/tripling and they aren’t capitalizing. I’m impressed with Carolina’s D so far looks like Roy got em to play a little today.

by Owen on Mar 29, 2009 4:18 PM CDT reply actions

Wow.

This game is going to be a massacre.

Oklahoma has to hit threes to compete. So far, zero.

Blake Griffin is getting triple-teamed, and no one can even get to the bucket.

And they have had a billion shots go in-and-out.

Plus, the refs have clearly bought in to the powder blue.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 4:22 PM CDT reply actions

A little life for the Sooners and...

Hansbrough moves to the bench…Griffins dominating the defensive glass so if OU can start scoring some points we could have a game

Cryler Hansboro

just stepped on the end line – just checked the DVR. Ref was there, no call. I’m getting pissed.

If OU doesn't start hitting 3s,

They’re pretty much done. Griffin isn’t getting the ball in scoring position and his cross-court passes aren’t leading to made shots.

by Bensa on Mar 29, 2009 4:40 PM CDT reply actions

Green just pushed blake griffin out of possition on the lob...

how is that not a foul again?

I love how they are getting away with foul calls.

And yet, if you were to poll the average powder blue t-shirt in the FedEx Forum, they would all say that the refs are getting payed by Oklahoma and the game is ridiculously unfair.

They are sooooo used to getting every call under the sun, an evenly called game freaks them out.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 4:45 PM CDT up reply actions

"Evenly called game"

is not in their collective lexicon.

by A.J. Haefele on Mar 29, 2009 4:45 PM CDT up reply actions

OU sucks.

I mean, this is painful to watch. I’d rather be reading about the Harding administration.

by A.J. Haefele on Mar 29, 2009 4:45 PM CDT reply actions

And there's the Rock Chalk commercial...

Sigh….

Won’t be needing that for another year…

Ehhhhhhh…….

yeah - it was nice

but I really didn’t need to hear that at the moment.

Even when we’re gone, the basketball world is KU’s pearl.

I thought it kicked ass.

shooting free throws?

I don't want it to be baseball season.

I’m trying to watch the Royals game during commercials, and it’s just brutal.

It’s so boring and there are so many stoppages…I’m not ready for it.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 4:48 PM CDT reply actions

Green is all over the place

he just has more “want to” right now than anyone on the OU squad.

Good news here

Roy’s probably going to come out in the 2nd half with the same game plan. Jeff Caple should make some adjustments and hopefully that pays off.

Why the hell does

Roy burn a time out there?

He’s gonna regret that when he’s down 5 with less than a minute.

He would have lost it anyways.

You automatically go down to 4 timeouts in the second half.

He always uses one at the end of the half, because he’s never used one before then.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 4:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, Oklahoma actually isn't in all that bad of shape.

Considering they are what, 0-8 from three?

If they can just hit 50% in the second half, they are right back in the game.

Plus, North Carolina is in some foul trouble. Green has 2, Hansbrough has 2, Frasor has 3.

by rockchalk on Mar 29, 2009 4:54 PM CDT reply actions

Hansbrough has 2???

North Carolina fans must be irate. That’s a travesty.

Man

I know Griffin is a beast and all, but that athleticism isn’t going to take him too far in the NBA. Dude needs to develop something other than “jump, catch, dunk”

It appears, my friends

that the Big 12 will go quietly into the good night with little more than a whisper and a clamor.

Yup.

Enough said, really.

for leaving the league’s legacy up to Missouri and “Choklahoma”.

Too bad, too.

by A.J. Haefele on Mar 29, 2009 5:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

0-13 from 3? Not going to get it done.

Insanity is just a state of mind.

It's like they don't even care.

Something must be wrong with that locker room. Money, women, drugs, ego…. who knows?

by KennyGregoryRockThaCradle on Mar 29, 2009 5:41 PM CDT reply actions

With Willie Warren

actually talking about returning next season instead of the NBA BEFORE THIS GAME EVEN HAPPENED, it looked like at least one star player was more focused on next year. That should be telling.

by A.J. Haefele on Mar 29, 2009 5:41 PM CDT up reply actions

crap

Don’t let Hansbrough fill the stat sheet at the end, makes him look better than he played all game.

I still dig the Final Four

Even if none of my teams are in it.

by Bensa on Mar 29, 2009 6:13 PM CDT up reply actions

I've got to pick a team to root for or else it's not so fun.

I’m like Labba, can’t root for Carolina. Uconn’s a bunch of cheaters who win too much, they’re out. Between MSU and Villanova. I’ll have to decide by Saturday. Leaning towards Villanova.

by hunter s. royal on Mar 29, 2009 6:17 PM CDT reply actions

It has to be Villanova.

This is Michigan State’s 4th Final Four since 2000.

Villanova hasn’t made one since 1985.

Advantage Wildcats.

NOVA

My sleeper team of the tournament and a team that has perfectly put into place my GAUNTLET theory.

by A.J. Haefele on Mar 29, 2009 7:13 PM CDT up reply actions

I used to love Villanova way back when.

They were my second favorite after KU. Massimino seemed like a bit of a crazy nut on the sidelines, but it wasn’t obnoxious so much as funny. Kind of like the difference between Vitale(who drives me insane) and Bill Raftery, who has all the goofy sayings, but pulls it off without being annoying. The 1985 title game was brilliant. Separating out my feelings as a KU fan,(I’d rate 1988 & last year as a tie) it was the best basketball game I’ve ever seen. My choice is getting easier all the time. I like Izzo & MSU, but like a little more entertaining style as a fan.
