And, SlowDance would say “Lame” to you, anyway :D

"I log on to RCT after school, and I see the 228 comments on this thread. I actually immediately panicked, because knowing KC, I figured some other fan from another school (most likely Mizzou) came over and said something stupid. Then, KC freaked out at him, and said something stupid (no offense, KC, but this really wouldn’t be that extraordinary for you to pull off) and then there was mass hysteria. I would have to ban people, and warn people, and it’d be mass chaos." - SlowDance

I went to the games in Denver last year and it was a blast…if KU isn’t around you might actually be able to scalp some pretty cheap ones.

I was downtown Denver last year and ponied up to the bar for the KU game. By the time it was out of hand some guy was practically giving me tickets to watch the sessions in Denver. $20 for 3 games (missed the first watching KU)

Good topic for convo:

Apparently, there is some beef going on among the OU players. I got this from JayhawkSlant from yesterday. This is from one of the guys over there that supposedly has a “source” of sorts in Norman.

AJ is Austin Johnson, WW is Willie Warren.

SO apparently, Willie Stole Austin’s GF. Here’s the story:

"I told myself I would only respond to this topic and not start the thread since I did not want to be accused of being like a gossip girl.

Yes…this has some legs. I have a buddy (sorry…someone I know) who is a student down there. The story goes that the girl is someone AJ has known for a long time and is good friends with. You guys are right..the chick I guess is hot and has pulled the “just a friend thing” with AJ. At a party, she and WW hook up after AJ “asked” WW to keep his hands off. Funny stuff. Pretty typical college stuff but I guess WW keeps throwing it in AJs face that he hit something he couldn’t close deal on. If anyone is down there for tourney, go to The Mont and ask a patron for details. I guess the girl runs with the team around campus."

by Owen Kemp on Mar 11, 2009 12:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

Just so that can be tainted because WW made AJ feel bad about himself so he pouted and cried on The Griffin Shoulders and Blake promised that once he gets his first shoe deal to have WW taken care of. WW got wind of this scheme and in an attempt to show Griffin who is boss, vows to never pass him the ball.

Comments from JS:

“Why doesn’t this fall under NCAA rules which makes athletes only housing illegal? It’s on campus isn’t it? If their scholarship is paying for it doesn’t it have to be made available to a regular student also?”

“The housing for these basketball players is not owned by the university, if I recall the story correctly, so it doesn’t have to meet the criteria of the NCAA. Technically, the players are living "off-campus” even though the buildings may be on campus. They can spend their housing stipend wherever they see fit."

"Like KCJC said kids don’t have to live on campus. A lot of the KU scholarship athletes choose to live off campus and get money allocated towards their room and board to pay for their rent somewhere else in Lawrence. If their rent is less than their stipend then they get to keep the remainder.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see a scenario where someone closely connected to the Memphis program owned the house and have the bball team be the tenants throughout the years. The booster could charge them absurdly low rent allowing them to pocket quite a bit of stipend money to spend however they pleased. I don’t think this would be illegal either b/c as an independent landlord you can pretty much charge whatever you want for rent.

And I agree that the house isn’t nearly as nice as it’s made out to be. I’ve lived in 3 different places right next to KU’s campus that are way nicer than that."

some programs bring in the big splash coach who’s going to land big names early and maybe pan out or not. Mangino is not that guy. As he likes to put it he’s sawin wood. It’s a process and as long as the team continues winning he’ll get to the point of landing some big names.

I’ll say this though, having Ed Warinner, Bill Miller, Clint Bowen and Tom Sims on the staff is going to start the momentum. We’ve already seen some of the names Warinner and Bowen have been in on until the wire and word is that Miller is right up there. Sims as well, he’s a players coach and someone that will make an impact recruiting. I can’t say that we’ve had 4 assistants on the staff since Mangino has been here that will make the recruiting impact these guys will.

In recent years

I think a case has been made for gameday experience at KU being better for football than basketball….don’t shoot me here, but football is a whole day event of cooking, eating, drinking, and socializing….basketball has in-game experience no doubt, but it’s not the event that I think football is.

In the end, AFH trumps it, but football has made a lot of headway on gameday experience in Lawrence in the last few years.

I don't have a problem with

Whitlock persay. Sure, he says some controversial stuff, but he doesn’t MAKE UP stuff, like the other two dweebs. And, he doesn’t go attacking people for stating a simple opinion like Harry did him. Harry is just a bitter, sour, lonely, pissed off, old man.

Whitlock does like the smacktalk, however, and pretty much

created this catfight. He’s the disappointing one to me, because he’s got some serious writing talent and just coasts too much. He could be every bit as good as Posnanski but just doesn’t put out the effort.

I think I'm missing how

Whitlock started this. From what I know, all he did was say that he feels Pioli needs to be more open with the media and not so impossible to talk to. Did he say something about Jack that I missed?

Read his column in the Star again if you can dig it up.

He blatantly called out both Jack Harry & Kietzmann. It’s typical of too many of Whitlock’s recent columns. He makes a good point with the secrecy of Pioli being a potential pr problem, but then slags Harry & Kietzmann in a gratuitous tirade.

Hmmm, alright

I will see if I can find it. I’m notorious for starting an article on the front page and forgetting about the continuance on the inside.

Google up Jason Whitlock KC Star:

and it’s the 3rd article down. I’d link it, but I’d probably screw it up and crash the thread.

Whitlock has been after Kietzman

and 810 for awhile. I remember reading something about it a year ago or so, called them out for being lazy and taking advantage of not having any competition.

I just got back from your mom's basement.

should add,

can’t really blame him. I can’t stand Kietzman, but I really like 810’s morning shows. Petro and the Border Patrol are both top notch.

Okay fellas.

It’s bedtime for me. I’ve waited long enough. See you all around.

I am Jack's unbridled optimism.

Breaking the law to use a computer in school in Cali:

No wonder you guys are destroying the country. :D In basketball news, Texas slumbers past Colorado by 11. They looked like they saved plenty for K-State tomorrow.

Again, just want to apologize.

I added wrong late last night when I was scheduling this post, and that’s what confused everything. In any case, hopefully we’ve figured out a more appropriate solution for the future.

New OGT is up, y’all.
